    Awesome guide. Quick no nonsense tutorial. I really appreciate that you just get right to it and didn't turn a 5 min video into a 25 min over explanation.

    EXCELLENT! Was looking for a way to merge engines. Thank you. And thank you for getting to the point and not rambling for 15 minutes. Some people make these videos and while they are helping us with their techniques they sure like to hear themselves talk.

    Wowww this is simple but CRUCIAL info for anyone into shipbuilding! Yes, I've had the frustration of pieces that should logically merge together not do so; I basically gave up shipbuilding at that time... Can't wait to start trying this method! Thanks for the video!!

    Definitely useful for optimal cockpit placement in some builds. Not sure I'll ever be clipping things into others, but could be a nice workaround in some cases.

    I'm told making your grav drive surrounded on all sides protects it in combat. So your technique is very useful in that regard. thanks heaps !

    • @JoeBob79569
      @JoeBob79569 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's interesting, my grav drive is always the first thing to go down when I'm losing a fight in the Mantis ship, the Razorleaf; but I never really thought about protecting it because I rarely run from a fight anyway.
      I always just assumed that the enemy were targeting it specifically to prevent me from running away, which is just fine with me! And if you survive it's always back up and running in a few seconds anyway. I'd prefer my grav drive to be targeted rather than my weapons..

    • @mike_d_melb_music_fan5229
      @mike_d_melb_music_fan5229 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JoeBob79569 yes, you wonder if they shouldn't balance the combat Ai better , such that they target your weapons first ?

    • @JoeBob79569
      @JoeBob79569 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mike_d_melb_music_fan5229 I was actually thinking that this was the point, that the enemies want to disable the grav drive so that you can't run away from them.
      But if they did target your weapons first then the only thing to do would be to jump out of there!

    • @mike_d_melb_music_fan5229
      @mike_d_melb_music_fan5229 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JoeBob79569 yeah, but then the game says " you can't jump while in combat" , so what's the point of enemies going for your grav drive ? I dunno, I think the whole thing needs a re think. 😮🤔

    • @JoeBob79569
      @JoeBob79569 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mike_d_melb_music_fan5229 It's early in the morning here and my brain registered this as -"you can't fast travel while jumping"_ (which has caught me out a few times!) and so this comment really confused me for a second!
      I think you can grav jump away from a fight alright alright though, but it has to be to a different system..

    So useful. I heard about it, but did not want to use it first. I am hours upon hours in this builder. I love it so much. But i guess i will have to use it now, because it would help alot i a few cases i used with other, normal techniques. As a workaround. But this feels still... legit :D Thanks for showing!
    Edit: I hope they never fix this. But i guess it will stay. At least if this isn't corrupting saves, as one comment pointed oit that this can happen.

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't see them ever fixing this as it doesn't really break the game, theres still limits to when and where you can do it

    • @mynickisalreadytaken
      @mynickisalreadytaken ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrimsonFlyboy Of course of course. But it is more than enough for me. I mean, the Builder works fine most of the time and if there is a Problem, ifind a solution in a different approach while still getting what i imagined. This helps alot now. I just can dream of the stuff we will get via DLC and Mods for the builder.

    I've only ever merged one thing (the long Nova Cowling into the same Nova bridge that you showed). It caused some oddities that made the ship unplayable. The exit hatch led to the middle of the Akila wilderness. I was parked at the Akila City spaceport. It might have done that with any planet. Didn't test. I basically had to edit the ship, remove the merged part, and then run with it not merged from then on. If you can get your parts to merge without some sort of glitch, seems like a cool technique. Just be aware that there may be unintended consequences down the road.

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds a bit strange. That being said, if you merge items into habitats, they will stick through. That's why i tend to only merge items into non habitat modules

    Are there any clipping issues on the interior? Parts jumping around or just looking off?

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you merge items through the habitat modules, they will clip and be visible, but they won't have collision, meaning you can walk through them

  • @THESLICKNESSEDM
    @THESLICKNESSEDM ปีที่แล้ว

    Does it effect the interior of the ships?

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      It only affects the interior of the ship if you were to glitch a large object like a reactor inside a habitat module.

  • @a28skullking
    @a28skullking ปีที่แล้ว

    Great informative video and definitely improves on some of the clunkier looking snap-fits of the game but I want to ask if these techniques effect usability? If you were to merge a reactor through a hab module for instance. When in the ship does it show the reactor through the module rendering it inaccessible? I ask because I’ve noticed even “clean” builds I’ve made have had certain hiccups such as one hab being toxic for some reason in one corner no matter where I land my ship and another where Vasco is folded up in the middle of my workshop and makes it difficult to access one of the tables because of the game prioritising interaction with him (even though nothing happens when attempting to interact with him) over using the customisation table.

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I've seen, if you merge items inside habitats modules, they can be seen from the inside, but a lot of them won't have collision mesh, meaning you can walk through them

  • @JoeBob79569
    @JoeBob79569 ปีที่แล้ว

    I initially thought I'd be ignoring all of these glitching methods, but after seeing how finicky the ship building actually is in the game I think I'll start using them soon..
    I'm currently hopping systems in a hab-monstrosity, trying to pick up all the unique parts I want, and connecting particular parts to particular places is already pissing me off.

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont forget to make use of an outpost as then you can access all structural pieces. It is a bit of a pain having to hop around to get the exact pieces you want. I kind of wish there was a station that had all the pieces but charged a premium to install them

    • @JoeBob79569
      @JoeBob79569 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrimsonFlyboy Yea, I ended up just grabbed a list of the console commands for all the unique ship parts, and slapped them into the console, so that they'd be available to me at the one place, it makes it so much easier.
      It's absolutely ridiculous to have to hop back and forth between systems, adding parts, realising they don't suit you, and trying to remember the specs of the previous parts, and having to go somewhere else and try again.
      It's hard enough just trying to get the layout right, and having to go back into the ship every time to check it, without having to travel around as well.
      I generally don't like using the console for "cheating" (infinite money, etc) because it takes all the fun out of it, but in some situations, such as this, it's just more convenient.

      Yeah. Using the same technique you can merge weapons together

  • @iondragonx
    @iondragonx ปีที่แล้ว

    @CrimsonFlyboy I really appreciate this for merging aesthetic components together. However, it should be classifies as a cheat to merge grav drives, reactors and/or engines into other objects. Ship combat uses each of those as separate choice targets and using this glitch could reduce that target size or completely hide them from fire.

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been blown up many times with these merged vessels, so you're not anymore or less safe by merging items. At the end of the day, it's a single-player game and doesn't affect anyone. It's your choice if you choose to do it or not.

    In a game where you can lost over 30 hours of gameplay due to bug with ship building or ship stealing mechanics - merging parts which are not codded to be merged by design - is asking for trouble. Don't be surprised when you'll see you ship as inaccessible and without crew. It just works.

    • @CrimsonFlyboy
      @CrimsonFlyboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got well over 200 hours in the game, and I've never experienced any bugs or lost any ships to merge glitches. Obviously, your milage may vary.

    • @MrZlocktar
      @MrZlocktar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrimsonFlyboy It is still unclear what's the actual cause of this game breaking bug, but a lot of people were affected by it, me including. What we know so far is that it is 100% connected to ship building and ship stealing. But it is unclear how to repeat it manually as this seems like uncontrollable random bug. Lucky you.
      When you see your landing bay as inaccessible, no longer see your crew on ship, when there is no Vasko outside of ship, when system authorities stop scanning you for contraband, when you are not getting your Star Eagle as reward - just so you know: you are fucked and has essentially lost X hours of gameplay. The more you play with ship building, the higher the chance, that much is clear.
      After facing this bug for the first time, i am in permanent paranoia mode whenever i use ship building or trying to steal ship. That's how severe it is.

      @@CrimsonFlyboy It could be a nasty surprise if players' fleet only had builds utilizing this glitch. Then they have to spend hours correcting their ships.
      I played a game called High Fleet in which there were all sorts of "cursed and illegal" optimizations. It didn't need to "break" the game. As soon as a mechanic became popular, it got patched away. And that happened multiple times until I got tired of starting from scratch and just downloaded other players' designs.
