I like Judge Dredd theme better than original Wildlands theme. I wouldnt say that Judge Dredd theme make game more immersive. The theme could be whatever... anyhow. This game system is fun. Like my friend sais... its the Ticket To Ride of skirmish games.
Since action cards always same order of characters, useful for players to arrange character cards in similar order or at least left to right for quicker matching of icons if that is an issue. Good review. You not mentioned there has been 2 movies (Stallone and far superior Karl Urban one).
Concerned about 1) value for money as regards replayability, with only the 4 factions asymetry and 2 boards... and 2) if the game sells well (will probably, out of IP fans and Martin Wallace), there will be more maps and factions and maybe a cheaper bundle... All in all this game somehow reminds me of Aristeia! but for 2 to 4 players, not just 2, which is very tempting
I've played wildlands, it has deep strategy and tactics that can be quite nuanced, and it's easy enough that almost everyone can play it and understand.
@@KurtisAntosh The Dredd theme would be less pasted on if these had stuck to the Dredd world and characters. Factions should have been Judges, Angel Gang, Aliens, Mutants.
@@Subcomandante73 This game is based on the Helter Skelter storyline from Judge Dredd where other 2000AD universes do invade Mega City One: Helter Skelter (progs 1250-1261) An army of Dredd's greatest foes, from alternate dimensions where they won, band together under an alternate Judge Cal (see The Day the Law Died) and use dimension jump technology to invade Dredd's dimension, unable to stand the idea that there is a universe where he won. Their presence starts a total collapse of all universes, causing characters from other 2000 AD stories to appear in Mega-City One - Cal intends to exploit this chaos. Dredd defeats Cal with the help of dimension technician Darien Kenzie. This storyline gave its name to the game. The fact that all these other 2000AD characters encounter Judge Dredd is 100% part of the Dredd universe. But I agree I would have rather seen gangs/sovs/blockwar militias/etc rather than Dante/Slaine/etc.
For those 2000 AD fans that think the game itself looks boring, go watch their review of Wildlands. They do a much better job of explaining why the game itself is fun. Although I too wish they had stuck with just Judge Dredd instead of 2000 AD. I’d much rather see Judge Death, Angel Gang and the Apes..
Wow....I thought that a modern game with Judge Dredd would be great but unfortunately this is awful.... Bad mechanics, bad gameplay, bad map......no need to go on. No wonder why I had not heard about it until now. The 1982 board game was so much better than this one......😕
FYI, anyone buying this now can get solo variant rules with the Dark Judges faction that releases this month.

Good review Sam. You were always very knowledgeable, but you seem much more comfortable in front of the camera during solo reviews.

Thanks Sam. Love Dredd so this looks good right off.
Not sure if he met Slaine but he did meet Batman.
ABC Warriors in the expansion purleaze.
From the overview I fail to see why you couldn't mix this with wildlands other than the theme. It could be like heroscape in that regard....
You certainly could and there are rules for mixing stuff.
Wildlands: 2000AD. I'm not sure that Slaine ever met Dredd :)
Just to point out, despite the name, this game is not just Judge Dredd, but the whole 2000AD anthology. That means a lot here.
For those looking for more of a skirmish game "JUDGE DREDD: I AM THE LAW" is a miniatures game by warlord and it's fantastic!
Great video Sam! Thanks for the review.

Thanks Sam, loved 2000AD comics and really love the Judge theme, although the game to me does not look that exciting.
Big Dredd fan but this looks very light.

It’s weird there’s no Angel Gang, Dark Judges, or MC1 villains like PJ Maybe and Oola Blint etc
It’s more a 2000AD game than Dredd.
Slaine and Strontium Dog/Johnny Alpha are on the box art as well. These are totally separate 2000ad characters. Nothing to do with Dredd.
Dredd runs into Johnny Alpha multiple times in 2000ad. Slaine I don't think so.
It's really 2000AD game but Judge Dredd name has more recognition and used as title.
Poor Gronk. "My heartses!"
I am traumatised by all those meanies shooting the Gronk!

Endless expansions?
I liked the unique art style of the original Wildlands better than this. I'm not a fan of just re-releasing a game with a new skin. Lame.
Saw the title and got excited, then started watching the review and became sad...
