      @@Enwaiyre Then I guess we don't have physics or electronics or electromagnetic fields or accounting. There are plenty of negatives everywhere. "Less than nothing" isn't what negative means sometimes. And 'only mathematics' sounds like a lack of appreciation for mathematics, one of our best tools for understanding reality. But anyway, for a lot of Japanese who lost their family, homes, and work all at the same time (which many, many did after Operation Meetinghouse, for example), they definitely must have felt that they were starting again from nothing. It's important to appreciate that in what was one of the biggest attacks on civilians in history.

    Betcha you didn't think you'd be crying during a Godzilla movie. I know I didn't. Koichi's trauma and guilt is heartbreaking, bit it's Tachibana installing the ejection seat and telling Koichi to live that gets me every time. Such great characters all around.
    He's not standing in the water, he's displacing it.
    The plane is based on a real prototype, the Kyushu J7W Shinden. It was developed to defend the Japan homeland, but it's only test flight was right before the US dropped the atomic bombs, so it never saw service. There were two built, with the surviving one in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. The movie prop was so accurate they put it on display and only revealed it as a prop after the movie came out.
    The ships depicted were also real, and the four used for the final mission had been decommissioned as part of the disarmament agreement when Japan surrendered. That means they would have been stripped of all weapons and ordnance, making them considerably lighter.
    The movie actually cost the equivalent of $10 million US. The visual effects team was 35 people, supervised by the director Takashi Yamazaki instead of having a go-between. It won an Oscar for visual effects, and many other awards from different organizations, including the Japanese Best Picture Award.
    G cells. The black mark isn't visible at first and expands upward, which is why we notice it.

    In defense of Godzilla, who seems to be standing in the deep ocean, Godzilla has neutral buoyancy like fish he can control his buoyancy like a diver wearing a dive vest the diver can control his buoyancy by how little or how much air Is in his dive vest which he controls. However, he cannot control the gases in his system and bloodstream, and if he goes really deep gases in his body are compressed and when he rises too quickly to the surface gases expand and rupture organs and give embolisms, which, depending on the depth can kill if one rises too quickly to the surface without decompression. This is what they plan to do with Godzilla.

    • @1massboy
      @1massboy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Look, we can add whatever we want to make Godzilla float.
      But let’s face it. This movie is about a giant murder lizard. Which is basically a stand for the atomic bomb and pretty much every natural disaster. He is a force of nature.
      So people need to be able to give a pass to artistic choices like that.

Who knows) and the change in pressure makes their organs and cells 'inflate'; have gone deep sea fishing, I have seen bottom fish have their eyes bulge out and their stomachs and swim bladders protrude out of their mouths, after they got quickly reeled up from the deep--150 to 350 feet.

Completely changes the tone. And when Kiko says, where is mommy original version she says when do I get to see mommy in the Netflix version. I don’t know why they changed it.

    Couple things, First off your reaction was great. 1. The monster in the beginning was a type of sea monster / dinosaur. It was mutated with the events at Bikini Atoll. 2. Godzilla, is highly radioactive due to those experiments. His skins is black and he lacks scales. This creature is in incredible pain as the radiation mutates it's body. This was also the case in the 1954 version.
    Black rain is a bi-product of an atomic explosion. It contains radiation, dirt and dust, and the condensation of the sky due to heat. It is highly radioactive and killed many in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
    It's heart breaking. Godzilla, in his original form is not an anti-hero. He's not a kaiju, he's a warning about the use of atomic weapons and the aftermath it brings.

    To clarify many things for You:
    Godzilla was sent to Earth to protect it from other Kaijus (very big threat monsters)
    She was relatively small, like a T-Rex. But after some of the nuclear undersea tests, She mutated. Became bigger and bigger.
    She is radioactive, this ability can heal her. But it is a curse too. Thats why She is that angry about humans.
    After every seizmic shots She is badly hurt, have to regenerate. Those shots are representing Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
    Black rain is mixed radioactive material and dust. Which infected Noriko and saved Her too. But also poisoned Her veins.
    The main thing -1 represents Japan after it was destroyed to ground zero in war. Then came Gojira and made it even worse (-1.0)
    So when You think You have lost everything, You are wrong...

      Yeah, but you got a warn everybody about how different the approach towards dealing Godzilla is. I mean, there’s still drama in it but it’s very much. How would a government tackle a monster like that.
      Granted, I understand the movie is a critique of the Japanese government response to Fukushima.

    The black mark is G-Cells. Godzilla's cells in the other films can infect and mutant other organisms. Noriko should not have survived, but her exposure to G-Cells has apparently given her the ability to regenerate like Godzilla, albeit, at a slower pace.

    What makes Godzilla unique is he can be a good guy or bad guy depending on the story or the interpretation. Minus One is a remake of the original 1954 film where he was a tragic villain who attacked because human’s atomic testings mutated/traumatized him to now be in constant pain/anger. After that however, he became more of an anti-hero fighting evil monsters who threaten his home, Earth. The current Hollywood films highlight the anti-hero portrayal of the character which be great if you check them out. ^^

      @@popculturallychallengedwhen watching or rewatching some of the monsterverse movies as far as the human characters go few are interesting and some are flat out boring or terribly written at to which point its kinda the point of those movies, the monsterverse human characters are just there for size and suspense but truly for the universe itself everyone is there for the kaiju action.
      Plus the Monsterverse is paying homage to the 60s silly showa era of godzilla while the monsterverse started off grounded and realistic to goofy and silly fun, compared to gojira 1954 to turning godzilla a silly hero in the 60s.

  • @Ozai75
    @Ozai75 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It's Minus One because at the end of the War, Japan had basically been flattened by the US bombing and the uses of the Atomic Bombs, and after they'd hit Zero, Godzilla attacks and destroys what little else survived, thus putting them into the negative. Or Minus One.

    The "Minus One" in the title pertains to the fact that at the time of the end of the war, Japan was at ZERO due to the carpet bombings and the two nuclear bombs set off over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Add in Godzilla and his destructive power and suddenly the odds were against Japan and they were at a deficit swinging into the minus area. The Minus One means they had the potential to be reduced back to the stone age.

  • @tanvu2728
    @tanvu2728 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I hear this every Minus One reaction:
    "What is that?" "Is that a fish?" "Why does fishes look so weird?"
    XD, lol. The movie technically explained it, but folks aren't aware... But it said Godzilla usually goes into the "Deep Sea" part of the ocean, and down there is below even where Whales usually lives, its pitch dark and usually you get Angler fishes and those fishes you saw in the movie. (they look like long snake/eel body but they have a big bloated mouth like a Pelican.
    usually, godzilla movies only show regular fishes closer to the surface, but ideally, it should be fishes from the deeper part of the ocean.

    Going down and up in the ocean should take a lot of time because of the pressure difference and I think when Godzilla didn't came up to the surface maybe he wanted to "buy time" to get used to it.

    The meaning of Minus one. After the war, Japan was left decimated and in rubble. They had no military and the emperor had to admit he was a god. Japan was left at ground zero. Godzilla took them below that. Minus One!

    People keep saying. Why are they looking, keep running. Some people did keep running. Some were going in other directions. After all, the people in the city had never seen Godzilla before. Thats why when she was on the train she said, "Is that Godzilla?".They just had heard of him until then. But if this was real there would be some who would want to stop and look. Especially if it was something you had never seen before. In todays world with cell phones. You best believe there would be people trying to video it.

    It was top 3 movies in ten years. For 15-30 millions, vs 500 millions for marvel movies, it was excellenteeeee. For one. Marvel movies suck nowadays. And this HUMAN story here goes strong for years and years, even with rewatches. And yea, "he" might come back, but usually after first movies, godzilla becomes the hero of japan, and the original movies have the human element there, just dunno if anything going forward comes close to this perfection.

    Minus one is because it started before the "Original" Godzilla monster showed up. The major "Twist" of Godzilla is that he takes all of this damage and still lives. The radiation altered his DNA so he regenerates automatically. Noriko sent the telegram after she recovered enough. The black mark "Tatto" is from Godzilla cells that attached to her. There is a possibility that a second movie may? be made.
    I'm sad that you never became a Godzilla fan. I would watch Godzilla 1985, Godzilla against MechaGodzilla, / G SOS Tokyo. Best one is Destroy All Monsters, it has all of the Japanese Kaiju.

    A lot of people talk about how can Godzilla just stand there in the water but for something to float it just needs to have less density than water, there are 30-40 ton whales and they float, there are also animals like hippos weighting 15-18 tons (half of the weight of whales) yet hippos can't float.

  • @FrancisXLord

    Noriko's neck bore 'G-cells' according to the writer/director. As for the idea that Godzilla being alive at the end means there's going to be a sequel, I don't believe that's the case. After 'Shin Godzilla' Toho studios established what they call the 'Godzilla Room' which established guidelines for Godzilla movies. One of their rules is that Godzilla can never be permanently killed, so the filmmakers would have no choice than to tag on a scene that implies he didn't really die.

    Noriko might have been infected with G-cells (black mark on her neck) and survived the blast because of its regenerative power.
    Godzilla Minus One (2023) won 8 Japanese Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and 1 US Academy Award (for Best Visual Effects).
    Suggestion. Watch Shin Godzilla (2016). The movie highlighted the (government’s) bureaucratic failures in dealing with the triple disasters (earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor meltdown) in 2011.

    Godzilla expels biological material wherever it blasts the heat ray. There was dialogue reporting the authorities were finding unknown radioactive and biological material within the debris. This is what's called g-cells. The g-cells infected Noriko and helped her heal after being blasted away.
    Koichi also was infected hence his black eye healed so quickly that he suffered by the hands of Tachibana.

    It's called minus one because after World War 2 Japan was at its lowest point in the country's history and when Godzilla attacked it took the country even lower. The country had nothing, so it was in the midst of rebuilding then a radioactive Kaiju comes along and makes things ever worse after two atomic bombs.
