Making both the files and the realization of the project available to the public is a great idea. -- Just one question: what type of glue do you use in the video? Visually it looks like vinyl, but I think it is stronger, can you reveal the brand and type? Thanks in any case
Hi, thank you for you comments. No problem revealing our secret glue, in fact we name it at the beginning of each video. We use titebond 3 wood glue, and yes it is very strong. Hope you enjoy your build.
Hi, I buy the bottles from e bay or amazon. One or two ounce plastic bottles with luer lock tops. Sometimes I order them with the blunt needle or I order the needle separately. The needle I like are 18 gauge. Try to order them with some kind of stopper to help prevent the glue drying in the needle. Also I would recommend having another larger bottle with water in, to flush the needle if it start to block. The bottles and needles are cheap and make building models much easier. If you have trouble finding them, get back to us and we will try to help.
Hi Jon, thank you for contacting us and for watching our video. The glue used was titebond III, but any suitable glue would work. We used a thin wax, not sure about the brand, again any suitable lubricant would work. This was cut from MDF which leave a very nice edge with no rough charring. Our test units were put together with no lubricant and worked fine, but obviously some people will use different material and lasers, so we recommend lubricating the parts. We hope this is helpful and that you enjoy building the box. If you haven't already, please subscribe to our youtube channel, to help us to continue.
This project will cause one to investigate KERF OFFSET. One should understand this before slicing up a bunch of material. There are kinds of "advanced" techniques in this baby! this project will not defeat me! it is way too kewl! thanks for the file!
Hi, Im not sure what you mean by how long will it last. If you mean how long will the can last, mine holds enough to do hundreds of models. If you mean how long does it last on the models, the brand I use dries, but it still seems to work after many months. Hope this helps.
The instructions mentions black lines, red lines, and blue lines but the dxf and svg files only have black lines. I’m new to laser cutting, am I missing something with the files? I’m using Luban with a Snapmaker Artisan 3n1. Thanks.
Hi, sorry but we have no idea what a Luban with a Snapmaker Artisan 3n1. is. There are much more knowledgeable channels out there who could possibly help you, or maybe your software supplier could advice you We draw the files with three colors to define cutting line, score lines and etching areas. I can tell you that in all the files the cutting lines are black and the part numbers are shown in red. If you are seeing the part numbers in black, or not at all, it is a software issue. Hope this helps.
Hi, thank you for the question. We have not made this model out of acrylic, but there is no reason why it should not work. The only problem I can think of, is, if you join the opening mechanism using liquid acrylic welding liquid, the capillary action could possibly weld the moving parts. If you do make on from acrylic it would look very nice. Please send us a photo of the finished model.
Thank you for contacting us. The wax shown on the video was just a thin paste wax, I can’t remember the brand. Any paste wax will work or even candle wax. When we were designing and testing the parts, we used mdf and assembled them without using wax. They worked fine with no lubrication. We recommend using wax because we don’t know what material people will use to build the model or the amount of char their lasers will produce. We hope this helps. Excellent cut file and to see the video on how to put it together was brilliant

Wow, I don't even have a cnc laser but this is getting me excited to get one!
The iris mechanism could work well for an old box shaped camera gift box...
Built this box as one of my first multi part laser projects and it turned out great. Lots of compliments on it from everyone that's seen it. Thanks.

Enorm bedankt voor het mooie ontwerp en de degelijke montage instructies. Zonder deze uitleg was het me niet gelukt om deze Iris Box te monteren.
I just built this box and it was very well designed and it came out really sweet. Thank you for both, the file and well done video.
You're very welcome!
Awesome box! Easy to follow instructions! Thank you!
Great project and the super video makes assembly a doddle. Thanks

Very well designed project - fun to build. Thanks for a great project!!!
Our pleasure! Glad you like it.
great work, as always! I made the iris box for my hubby. i stained it, and it's just beautiful!

Very nice, greetings from Vienna
Beautiful
Thank you
Just found you guys... FANTASTIC EFFORT! So nice of you to provide these files and videos... I'm getting started TODAY! :)
Thank you. Hope you enjoy building them.
Thank you for this video. Very cool project. Can you provide what kind of glue bottle/applicator that you used?

again great build
kudos
Thanks, we will look into the layered art!
really great, this is my next project. what type of glue and wax did you use?

Will this be possible without the wax? I do not have more than wood, wood glue, and a cutter.
Hi, yes it is possible, but it may not work as smoothly.

Hola 👋, de que grosor es el material que usaste?
Hi, it was made of 3mm mdf.
¿Que pegamento está usando?
Hi, we use wood glue.
@@freelaserfiles muy agradecido!
