  • In this video we go to our Thornton ground to cut some hedges on the John Deere 6620. Hopefully the tyre stays up! I talk you through how 2023 is going for us so far and I also show you some incredible drone footage too! I also tell you a couple of stories about our Thornton ground from when I was growing up.
    I hope that you enjoy it.

    Happy New Year to you James, and all your family. You could also put a solar water pump on that spring and pump water to each paddock James.

      I’ve considered a solar pump, but I think it would be quite a bit of money and I don’t know anyone with one to ask whether they works as well as they say 🤷‍♂️ it’s a possibility though.

    I rotation graze and back fence. The tank in each field is on the boundary and is the point on which the fence rotates. Doesn’t look pretty because the cattle don’t graze in neat squares but it works for me and I can let the cattle have the space determined by grass length rather than a specific area.

      Yeh I get what you mean Andrew. I could potentially do pie wedges back to the water but I worry about churning the ground at the spring up in a wet time. I’m not sure there is a perfect answer.

    Nice video James. The permanent fenced paddocks or a great idea, but have you looked at a solar pump to supply water to a drinker in each paddock, that way the strip down the headland wouldn't get as thrashed from stock walking to and from the spring, anyway just a thought. 😁

      Hey Dermot, I have thought of a pump yes but I was a little worried about logistics etc and I know it would be quite expensive.
      But your right, I do also have a worry about the headland being trashed. It’s all swings and roundabouts. 🙈

      @@baldysfarm they are a super job James, becoming common place over as farmers are no longer allowed to allow stock to drink direct from water courses

      Thanks Paul, I’ll make sure I stick them in there. We’ve got quite a bit of history around here too so could include that. 👍

    Looks like a dyke between the hedges? Pain to clean out but I'm presuming it's not a problem at the moment.
    Nice trimming. HNY to you all there.

      Yes it is Robert. I cut it all out every year but it’s really deep and takes some keeping clean. Luckily in tends to run pretty well which helps us out a bit.

      No problem, it gets a bit too overgrown down there. Some years they trim them and some they don’t so just thought I’d do it to make sure it gets done. 👍

    • @baldysfarm
      @baldysfarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      It varies a little Emma. Some are every year where I need access etc. most are every two years and some are every 3.
