You forgot to mention that cats have to lose weight very SLOWLY. quick weight loss can kill them. So pet owners need to work closely with their vet to learn the exact amount to feed them. No crash diets, people!
Honestly that's pretty similar for anyone trying to lose weight. No one is built to handle a lot of weight loss too quickly. It can cause a lot of complications or even death
I think people need to realize this is true for cats of this size. Cats that need to lose a little weight you should still go slowly, but you do not need to be as active with your vet. Most will just tell you start to feed them on a schedule (no food sitting out) and give you the amount and let you go. You can even calculate it online too. I say this since constant vet visits are very expensive and not needed unless they are of this size.
@@BloodMarket Cats are particularly vulnerable to complications from rapid weight loss, though. Because they're obligate carnivores they can easily get fatty liver disease, where during rapid weight loss their body fat stores are mobilized to provide energy, which dumps fat into into their liver to provide that energy. The more fat the cat has to spare, the more fat the body can potentially dump into the liver. This can lead to liver failure. Humans and dogs are less likely to have this problem since we're omnivores rather than obligate carnivores.
@@RaspBerryPiesyou'd better visit that vet to get advice and follow it to the letter, if you don't want a cat with life threatening issues and a very short future!
Girl With The Dogs channel has groomed several extremely hefty cats. Vanessa explained that these large felines must lose the weight very slowly or their organs can shut down. I’m glad Patches is doing well.
I have triplet Russian Blues and they just turned 7 on April 8th which was the same day as the solar eclipse and Ash aka The Pink Demon weighs almost 13 pounds and is quite a bit larger than her 8 or 9 pound sisters. The Pink Demon has very short and stubby legs and she can jump on the bed and into the cat tree just fine however when it comes to jumping onto my windowsill in my room she can’t do it. Her sisters can jump up and launch like a rocket.
My Grandmother over loved her last dog that way, by over feeding it whatever she was eating. Poor thing turned into a balloon too quickly and passed from it. Glad Patches is getting the help they need.
@@shizukagozen777 I agree. We lived in two different states so I had no idea and her non-living in home caretaker didn’t say anything otherwise we would’ve stepped in.
Such a lovable sweetheart of a kit-kat - Patches. So happy that he is shedding off most of the unhealthy pounds & congratulations to the fantastic teamwork between Mom & Patches.
I’m so happy people like this lady exist. People who show kindness to animals, the elderly or the vulnerable are truly wonderful. Much love from Scotland ❤
Thank you Ms. Ford!!! You did a great job with him, he is so beautiful and healthy looking now!!!! Yes, having you to manage his calorie intake and the other fine feline to work him out, has done the trick. He is so happy now, he doesn't know what to do!
This story is hilarious 😅. But at the same time heartwarming because, even with pets,it affects their over all well being. I am happy he's doing so well. Bravo ! 👏
Wow i am so happy about patches weight loss progress patches is adorable thankyou to his new mom for caring and loving and being patient with patches your an angel mom❤
Best cat love story I've heard in ages! Thank you so much for sharing a heartwarming story like this. We need more happy stories like this in our daily news!
Ah, Patches has angel wings! A dear friend lost her cat years ago, who also had markings like wings. How nice to see a similar kitty healthy and loved. ❤️
You have done a fantastic job thank you so much. Patches will be a much healthier cat and you are right it will take time but he is going to be just fine. 😀😀😀😀😀😀
An adolescent Norwegian Forest Cat found me years ago and grew into a very big boy, 32 lbs. Got him down to 26 before he passed away. Super nice, and smart cat he was. I miss Ellis.
Her point about resisting the begging is an important one! Mine REALLY knows how to beg!😩
Oh God, mine too. And I crumble out of guilt. This is why it's good that I had no kids. 😹
My cats don't beg; THEY DEMAND 😂
My girl bites if I don't give in. It hurts but so far she has only broken skin twice and both were accidental.
Mine just tries to trip me every time I pass his food container
How is that hard? You just don't give in. Mine don't even beg anymore since it's fruitless. Discipline, people.
He has a heart on his nose! 🖤
and wings on its back :)
He’s a handsome man 🖤
I noticed that too! So cute
Awww
It looks extremely boopable. And kissable. So cute.
If Patches can..I can too. Thanks Patches.
This comment made me smile, amazing mindset. You can do this king/queen, Patches believes in you too. Sending love and luck to you ❤

Don't worry, it's not wrong to laugh at this anymore since he's getting progressivelly skinnier
I'm so glad for Patches that he is almost out of danger now. Still a little way to go, but he's clearly enjoying life again.
17 pounds is already pretty good as a human, but as a cat? He's doing amazing!
Wow! Seventeen pounds! That is a huge weight loss. 😍
That's like a human losing 170 pounds 😮
@@mel816 Oh, wow. Bravo to Patches. It’s amazing!
I cannot believe he jumped on that couch from the floor at his size! What a good boy ❤❤❤

I'll never understand the point of overfeeding an animal, even when you love it more than anything...

Don't worry, I don't blame you. :)
I hope people like these realise overfeeding is a form of abuse. They literally led their loved ones to early (and completely preventable) death!
No offense to your grandma but I hope she realises her mistake. Overfeeding is a form of abuse, not love.
