How to Connect DSLR Camera to HDTV or Monitor w/ HDMI Cable

- I had a no signal problem and I explain how I resolved this issue as well. I show you how to connect/mirror your DSLR to your TV or monitor via HDMI cord. I take photos and record a live video as a demonstration. In this video I am using my Canon T6i (750D) and using the mini HDMI port to my HDTV hdmi port.
Note that some DSLRs may not work in live view. Also many people state that the Nikon D3100 does not work in live view however i can confirm it works as I set my friends D3100 up to my same Sony Bravia non smart HDTV.

Dude, I LOVE this video! I had no idea why the live feed wasn't working on my Canon EOS 2000D. Turned off the WiFi like you suggested, turned the camera off and on again, the output worked straight away. Thank you!

does your camera need to be in a particular setting in order to connect to your tv?
if canon 800d if out hdmi to tv, can it still connect to wifi, appear and be controlled with a smartphone?
Can you use this cable with some form of an adapter which will then be connected to a transmitter to record audio?
Yep. Also got caught out. Was trying to use a wireless video stream with a Mars 300 Pro. Searched all over Hollyland and Canon’s 760D manuals, their websites, their faqs, and nothing. Two days of searching for a solution and then found your video by pure accident and it fixed the issue. Can’t believe Hollyland and Canon do not post this resolution as sure many of us struggling with this same issue. Anyway, now subscribed to your sight. Thank you so so much. Anthony
Great, but the problem is this; why the screen of camera is not showing? Suppose that you are streaming without seeing the screen 😮😮😮 the camera may shut down without knowing
@@kwiringiratv my Canon camera automatically shuts down about every 25 mins!! It’s a Canon with a clean hdmi out, which is great but…..as a result of it shutting down every 25 mins or so it’s useless for longer streams or meetings! Apparently it’s a Canon issue….even though they advertise that the camera can do be used to stream via hdmi. No mention of 25min preconditions!! Unless I can find a solution to this very quickly, all my canon gear will soon be replaced and no further canon gear will be purchased.

Hi! I tried to do this with a Canon G16. It works for displaying pictures and videos, but not for watching what I'm recording. When I activate camera mode, the tv turns off (even if the screen display of the camera is off). Do you know what could I do?

Hey Great video... My Canon DSLR doesn't have a microphone jack so is it possible to record audio externally like using hdmi to micro usb to connect to phone and plug in mic onto phone's 3.5mm jack and record audio?.. Please test it out ☺
Can you connect it wirelessly? What if you needed to walk around but wanted to show a live feed on the tv for instance if you’re at a party and you want to show some of the guest on the tv screen. Is there a wireless connection that would do that?

Hi, thank you for the video - just what I needed. I got a question: I set the HDMI output in the camera to HD (1920x1080), however I always get a black frame (top/bottom and left/right) around the image - like black bars to fill the space - I see on your TV, it shows as a full frame HDMI output. Is there a setting that I haven't found yet? -Thanks, Stephan
If your monitor is a different aspect ratio to 16:9 (which is what 1080p is) then it might add black bars

I just plugged my micro usb adapter in my m200 and used a hdmi and plugged it in my monitor it worked smooth as silk!!! thanks

Someone records a video for me like a videographer, can I have a view on my MacBook and he can on the view finder ? Like can we both view ?
I tried to record with my DSLR connected to the tv with an HDMI, but how come whenever I record while its plugged into the TV I have a buzzing noise or fuzzy sounds in the background? then when I record without being plugged into the TV audio is fine. What can I do to help the sound on my TV to not buzz while I film ?
I would try muting the volume on the TV!

Your laptop is not a monitor. Both HDMI on camera and laptop are OUTPUTS.
Hi, How can I remove the autofocus boxes from live view? I'm trying to use my canon 70D as a webcam for streaming but the white boxes for auto focus won't go away. Is there a way to disable the boxes from the view while still keeping the auto focus effect?
UltimateLocke if you're streaming, you really shouldn't need focus too much unless you move a ton. But in my experience with a Rebel SL1 through a Elgato Camlink, there is no way.

hello there, what possible cold happened if hdmi out does not work. I have sony 40r552c with 2 hdmi and im using those with my ps4 and another one is empty. now when i connect my dslr with tv, it just show 2 large icone on the tv screen 1 on the top " play media" 2 on the bottom " view picture" accept this two i do not see anything. i dont see menu on the screen, i can not access my dslr as well when i connect on tv. i dont know that is problem of cable or my dslr. i am using Nikon d750 and never been using mini hdmi before ;( what i can do now

Thanks. On my 60D Canon, it works, then it doesn't - cuts out horribly and unpredictably. (And not, it's not the cable - it's firmly secured). Will probably just use the A/V out, and yea. Thanks for the good tips, esp. about re-set to get it working.

I have a Fujifilm Xs1 and I'm doing the same thing. But it is only showing the pictures I took on the camera and not what I'm seeing live on the camera's LCD. I've done the factory reset too, and it is still not working.

How do you make the monitor image full screen? I'm trying to connect a 5" monitor to my Canon 70D, but the image is only a 3" square in the center of the monitor screen.. I see no input settings on the monitor, or output settings on the camera that would correct this.. If I can only get a 3" image on the monitor, and not a full screen image, then the monitor is pointless, since there is already a 3" LCD screen on the camera. Thanks!
