About time I brought you lads another Pokemon related video, and I must say I learned quite a bit from researching this myself. What did you guys think? + Be sure to comment which Pokemon you'd like to learn about next!

Honestly the whole Which came first part seems kind of like a loaded question but it kind of depends on perspective since Bulbasaur, Rhydon, mew, and arceus all could be considered the first due to “lore” and Pokédex positioning

I like to think that Mew is actually a benevolent and kind being that hides beyond a playful persona. They created the purple bubbles in the first movie right at Ash to save him from harm and acted playfully to ease his nerves.

First in the podex does not signify anything.
If it does by any stretch, it's only that the creator of the pokedex thought it best to list the starters first.
Those being some of the first pokemon you're likely to see or own - short of possibly family pets which are likely your parent's pokemon and not yours.
Odds are Oak put these evolutions as the start of the list then continued the list by region because duh - "i'm the creator of the Pokedex so my region gets first billing." and why change the method after that? It would be clunky and confusing.

Arceus came first. It hatched from nothing and created the Pokemon world. So Mew imo would be the second in terms of creation. But Mew would be first as first as genetics and science go.

But what if Mew created the arceus egg, and Arceus created the universe? And scince Mew can survive in space, this is logical.
Maybe Mew and Xeno(DBS) are very similar. Maybe just like Xeno maybe Mew can exist outside of the universe (s?)?
But mew is said to be the ancestor of *all* Pokémon, and arceus is said to have been born from an egg meaning that it must have come from something 🤔

Another thing that links ditto to mew is the fact that ditto is found on the same floor of the Pokémon mansion where mewtwo was created

Rhydon was the first pokemon, if rhydon was the first pokemon the devs made, then that means bulbasaur arceus and mew didn't exist yet, which erases the reason it's a mystery.
I think that Nintendo didn't put much thought into the Mew and Mewtwo story other than to explain Mewtwo in the first generation. I also think that the story of Mewtwo's birth was influenced by the cloning of sheep in the 90's, and that all Pokemon were assumed to have genders but those genders didn't become relevant to gameplay until breeding them became a game function. Legendaries are genderless for gameplay reasons, and certain other pokemon are genderless for more obvious yet trivial reasons.
I also think that white Mew with pink accents should be the official version when considering that Mewtwo is also white and purple.

The thing I think what went over many of our heads. Is that there isn't just ONE Mew. It's a species, endangered and rare. They're origins are probably one the oldest surviving species.
Sort of like how the dragon flies forms haven't changed for hundreds of millions of years. Only dragon flies aren't as uncommon to encounter. As say, a psychic cat

Mew is said to be the ancestor of all pokemon and can transform into any pokemon including arceus. Mew was shown to transform into ho-oh and other legendaries in the show and manga.
Mew special move is Genesis Supernova which basically translates to “explosion of origin” 🤔

Or maybe this is all a big paradox and mew and arceus are both folklores in their own regions of kanto and sinnoh.
Arceuss first creation was far more likely to be the deities (giratina, dialga, palkia).
Its more implied that mew is the common ancestor of most pokemon, but some legendary/ mythical pokemon that are unique enough (not the bird or beast trio for instance), such as eternatus, rayquaza, etc. Could be individual creations of arceus, or natural phenomenon. Furthermore, ultra beasts are non-mew descended pokemon from different dimensions whereas some pokemon like porygon are manmade.

Well I mean, how else do you propose they do genetic experiments? Sure the clone lab has some tubes in it with liquid (presumably for in vitro clones) but remember mewtwo's enclosure was "A thick tube of glass. It looks like something has banged on it repeatedly from inside", Mewtwo was never suspended in liquid, it was kept in a small glass cage and experimented on while awake and conscious. Why would you think mew was any different?

I find it very interesting that mew giving birth confirms what was theorised in sun/moon, us/um, and the gold movie. Legendaries CAN breed (as evidenced by cosmog being breedable and baby Lugia in the gold movie) just not in a way that we the player understand

@@MegaMegajennifer I don't class that as Pokémon breeding in a true sense. Breeding manaphy gets phione, implying phione is a legendary hybrid. Kind of like a mule or a liger? What I'm talking about is breeding for reproduction of the same species. A Lugia breeding gets a baby Lugia, lunala breeding gets a cosmog, so manaphy breeding should get a baby manaphy

Thw original text in Japanese was slightly mistranslated because of how words work in Japanese compared to English. It was meant to mean more like mewtwo came from mew but not necessarily meaning birthed like we think of it. As said did u know gaming in their video where they actually interviewed the original translator of blue and red Probably why there's thw line or neither in there to express this.

Pure head cannon is Mew, but technicality is Rhydon. I say Mew, because I’m sure Mew was a thought way before Arceus was ever conceived.
I think "giving birth" is just expression. Mewtwo was made in that tank in Cinibar's Pokemon mansion right.

IMO, Mew came first, and found that managing literally everything was boring, and created Arceus, who created the other legendaries, freeing up Mew to have fun creating pokemon.
Arceus, despite being an official stick in the mud, saw how Mew was having fun, and tried making a species. However, lacking the access to special pokemon DNA Mew has, he was limited to what was physically possible.
By having a bipedal stance, that freed up 2 limbs for other uses. By adding smaller limbs at the ends (fingers), he gave them better dexterity. And by increasing their intelligence, he ensured that, alone, they could survive, but together, they could thrive. By making them omnivores, he ensured that they could find sustenance in just about every climate.
That species was humans.
Thousands of years later, most of the legendaries jobs were finished, and had fallen into a sort of hibernation, waiting to be called upon for their next job.
The world has been seeded with hundreds of types of pokemon, with many amazing abilities, and humans, the only species Arceus ever made, have not only survived, but, thrived, in a world full of creatures with the potential to remove mountains and split the seas and skies.
This would make sense..... If it wasn't out right stated in the games that humans also came from mew. In Fact in one of the games (I can't remember which one tho) it's said that humans were once almost indistinguishable from Pokémon. They even used to MARRY Pokémon. Also if I were to say mew came before arceus (just so you know I know very little about Pokémon.) then it wouldn't be just mew. If the universe didn't exist before arceus then there would only be a void so I think there's some sort of void mew which through some sort of genetical split created arceus and after words went into a millennia long sleep on earth and unbeknownst to it a bunch more genetical split offs occurred and then when mew woke up the world was completely different from before.

I've learned long ago that both Mew and Arceus are actually both God's. From what I've learned Mew is like Zeno from DragonBallSuper and Arceus is easily the Caretaker/Great Priest to Mew. So Technically they both were first! They both created the Pokemon Universe cause they were bored so after they did, Mew being more carefree went to be with their creations to protect them, while Arceus took on the harder job to maintain balance the universe. Makes perfect sense for there to be 2 Gods if you think about it!

theres no debate on which pokemon came first...its arceus and its a known fact. Arceus created mew first, which over time all the mew evolved into different species of pokemon.

I’m gonna have to say lore wise, mew was the first because mew is said to be the ancestor of *all* pokemon, and arceus was said to be born from an egg and the egg had to come from *something* .

I’m gonna have to this agree with the lore part. I think lorewise since is the god of Pokémon that created the universe, I think arceus first created Dialga, Palkia, and girintina so they could manage space, time, and anti matter, and then arceus created new which became everyone other Pokémon(except for unknown, the regitrio, and man made Pokémon like porygon)
Also the egg part can’t be just seen as fact since technically in the Pokémon world it’s just a myth/legend
PK Master the whole “egg” part was mythic symbolism. Arceus was most likely never “Born” as we think of normal Pokémon being born. Or if he even is a Pokémon. He predates the concepts of existence by a wide margin. He predates the existence of time, even... which means he has simply always existed.

Except where did mew come from then? Chances are Arceus was first. The "egg" he came out of was likely a sphere of energy that he developed in. Like how stars are typically spherical and massive balls of energy and gas. Arceus may well be a living embodiment of a star. Or maybe he's a star that finally collapsed but instead of being snuffed out or becoming a black hole, the matter rearranged into a sentiment being with vast creational powers. Who knows, but Arceus definitely came first. Sure, Mew can use every move, but doesn't seem to have the creational powers of Arceus and thus Arceus is technically more powerful. I feel like by first Pokemon, it actually means the first Pokemon Arceus created.

Correction arceus egg was created as an offshoot from accumulation of chaos.
Whatever happen to this chaos was never stated, I theorize when acreus was making the creation trio if not before He formed the chaos into Mew.
I heard others theorize arceus could of formed the chaos into the unown. Unless it's the "Chaos=Mew or Chaos 1st Mew, then Unown" other than that it doesn't hold very well for mew being the ancester of all other pokemon.

I came first.......... Arceus didn't come entirely from nothing. I helped the stars create him. It was very lonely by myself. But, Arceus the created the world and I created the Pokemon. We kinda combined our power. It was fun.

Edit: while in-game Arceus is technically the first Pokémon (Egg out of an empty void and all that), Bulbasaus is Number 001 and Mew is the "Ancestor of all Pokémon" ... since Rhydon was the first Pokémon ever made in real life I cast my vote with Rhydon!

Mew is the first pokemon. Mew is the ancestor to EVERY other Pokemon, including Arceus.
He can transform in Arceus and have his powers. The same with all other Legendaries like Palkia and Dialga.

Mew is 1 of my top 3 favorite pokémons, but i have many other favorite pokémons too, not top 3 favorites only. And i prefer the shiny mew, but of course the light pink mew is so cute and great too.
It's possible the 2 were created at the same time, as in Arceus created the universe, and Mew seeded life within the universe. There doesn't have to be a singular creator of everything.

I feel like Mew was Arceus' first creation and became the road map for all following pokemon. The early gen dex entries are considered weak at best compared to more modern Mew lore because GF didn't think the game would even ever get a sequel so they weren't exactly thinking ahead, lore wise. As to the birth thing, no pokemon is known to give live birth. Even Arceus himself hatched from an egg so it's highly unlikely mew had live birth. You can give birth to eggs, too, so that's more likely what happen. One is also assuming that those events were recorded faithfully not and... Subtly tweaked to change the truth. Considering mew can't ever breed in the games, it was probably a ditto in mew's form. And if the theory of ditto being related to mew is true, it would have the dna and genetic makeup of mew, just on a lesser scale. So mew would be the grandparent not the parent and mewtwo definitely would have come from an egg.
As to who's actually first, it depends what context you mean. Bulbasaur is only first in the dex because that's just how the professor (canonically,) and the GF staff (RL) choose to arrange it. Rhydon was the first ever created by GF irl, and Arceus was the first "Pokemon" in the world with Mew being the first Pokemon Arceus created, canonically. So technically mew would be the second Pokemon EVER, but considering that while Arceus is technically a Pokemon, he's in a whole different league then even Mew is in and thus would probably be considered a special Pokemon.

I’m 4 years late to this discussion but here’s the answer lore wise: Arceus was born from nothing. Formed the world and created Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Mew, and the lake guardian trios, then rested for many years while they helped form the world. Arceus is god and mew is the ancestor of all pokemon except Arceus.
So mew and Arcius hatched at the same time and rydon cane next because Pokédex is the timeline it was discovered in so bulbadaur was discovered first but not first first

So the legend goes... Arceus was born, with it's thousand arms aka unown created the main universe. Arceus got lonely so he created palkia, dialga and giritina.. Giritina would start problems creating the distortion world. Palkia and Dialga stopped getting along and so they were sent to their own miniverses for Space and Time. Arceus gets bored and creates Mew on the planet we know as the pokemon world. Mew would have to learn to adapt to environment so it would change its form to adapt, this includes all of the legendaries and other mythicals. A mew living within a volcano would become Groudon while another would be in the seas and thus would become Kyogre. These two would shape the lands and the seas. But soon they would become like enemies fighting over it there should be more land or sea. This battle would go on for over for million years until a mew living in the sky would have become Rayquaza and would come down to quale the fighting. With the oceans and lands now calmed, four Mew would adapt into the regis to reshape the world as we know it. ( As we see that Regirock, Regice and Registeel were helping protect mew and the Tree of Beginning ) Other mew that still existed would adapt and become pokemon that are found in the fossils. Then fast forward to a huge extinction event and mew would have to readapt yet again. The first pokemon being Rhydon ( although it's only first due to being the first drawn pokemon ) and possibly Bulbasaur.
But as far as Bulbasaur being first in the dex... I think it's just how Prof. Oak started out the dex. The order in which he would see pokemon and would add evolutions in between as he made up the first pokedex. aka the Kanto dex. The idea would latch on and soon would be updated to feature more and more pokemon. Oak did what was easiest. Put the starter pokemon in first. Bulbasaur first followed by Charmander and Squirtle and so on. As when you get any dex in the later games, the first pokemon is always the grass type starter at the top of the dex unless you switch it into National Dex mode. But that's just my own theory for why Bulbasaur sits at the top and I know I skipped many of legendary pokemon.
