    The homie going full Ben DeGros on this one. The original trucks looks so well loved!! Love it. Nothing wrong with having 2 setups. It's almost a Skate Dad thing to have a couple of set ups. Appreciate this overview and I look forward to the longer term review. Skate it for a month or more and then give your thoughts I say.

      Yo Ben Degros is the absolute Goat of skate TH-cam imo. I’m humbled by the comparison 🙏 really appreciate the kind word, my dude, I’m already making notes on the new trucks performance to do a follow up in a few weeks. Thanks for watching, man!

    They look perfect. I felt like the regular af1s was just a little too heavy for street skating.

    That curb spot is rad

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ay cheers, Dowdy! Thanks for stopping by. Oversized curbs are magical even if the ground isn’t perfect. Best part is it’s lit up for a few hours at night so it’s a solid winter spot as well 🤙

      As much as I talk shit about this ledge it’s truly an awesome spot despite its imperfections. And it’s lit up at night!

    Nice vid man. I just got a set of Ace 44 Classics (my first Ace's! My friend is skating the AF1 Hollows and said he likes how they turn, is why I looked at Aces but I got the classics on a great deal and I don't notice the weight.) hence I'm looking at Ace reviews. Skated them for the first time this weekend and they're so 'turny'! (I've been skating Thunder Lights the past couple of years) and expected to give them 40mins then swap to my regular setup, but they settled in so quick that I spent the whole 3hrs on them 👍🏾

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ace are so good for just simple turning. That’s like the main selling point of their brand and honestly, to me it’s so important to have that surfy feeling when I’m riding a skateboard that I can overlook any downsides. Hope you enjoy them, dude! Thanks for watching 👊

    So are these different to the AF1 Lows with just the hollow Kingpin?

      Yes. These are just regular AF1’s with hollow axle/kingpin.

    everyone always tells me just skate the trucks as is out the box an eventually they will loosen, i dont know why but i can never do it. i try an 10min into the session i grab a tool an take both washers out just to get them how loose i like. i love ace to death but they need to have different bushing options. i run the classics, havent had the af1 yet but im gonna try a pair on my next setup

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn you’re on some Daewon level looseness! Ace only makes hard and the stock mediums it looks like. I was running Bones mediums for like a year but then had two back to back blowouts when I went to replace them just recently. Gonna leave the stock ones in for a while on these.

      Damn that’s wild, did you order them or get them from a shop?

    • @jamesmcd85
      @jamesmcd85 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dadboard I ordered them online. . .from a local shop lol. I'm hoping they have the correct ones so I can just go there and exchange them in person. If not, I don't mind sticking with the current ones as I've never tried Aces before. My fragile legs will probably appreciate the hollows tho. . .🤞

    • @geezuschrist2734
      @geezuschrist2734 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesmcd85 i ride regular ACE's AF1, best freaking trucks ever, almost perfect in my opinion (the only thing i do not like of them is that the bushings are to soft for my taste, i ride tight trucks, but i just change the top bushing and problem solved) they grind so smoothly and the turn ratio is awesome. the difference between hollows and regulars AF1s are just 8% in weight (nothing considerable, so in my opinion is just gimmicks, just another way to get sales in the "light" trucks) anyway like 12 grams do not make any difference in skateboard control, maybe just a placebo effect

    • @jamesmcd85
      @jamesmcd85 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geezuschrist2734 Can't wait to try them out! The reason I'm holding off a bit is because my current setup is 8.25 and the trucks are for 8.5 decks, which I already have sitting here in my room. I've mostly ridden Thunder trucks, so it'll be interesting how those compare. I'll definitely pick up some hard bushings beforehand just in case!

    • @RikRiorik
      @RikRiorik 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geezuschrist2734 my as of yet unridden standard AF1 55s weigh 398g. So still around 25g difference per truck. Still a few grams short of the supposed 8% which as that would be closer to a 32g difference.

    Do you recommend these over the standard af1s?

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what size wheels/board you ride. If you already have a light setup I’d say the regulars are just as good. I’m on a wider board with 54mm conical fulls rn and I really appreciate the weight reduction

    • @ezrhino100
      @ezrhino100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dadboard it's an 8.25 with 55mm wheels. Feels a bit heavy with Indy standards.

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ezrhino100 I definitely recommend some hollow trucks in that case. I’d stay away from Indy hollows, I have two defective sets of them within a year. Won’t ever buy Indy again

    • @ezrhino100
      @ezrhino100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dadboard I think I will do that. Never had hollows, so it would be interesting to see the difference. Keep shredding and the good work. Its good to get feed back from fellow skaters...

  • @darkwingduck7212
    @darkwingduck7212 ปีที่แล้ว

    I heard they make your wheelbase real small? Is that true?

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they do shrink it down a bit but idk the exact specs, I think Ben Degross did an in-depth analysis though. I’ve skated Indy’s in between Ace’s and for what it’s worth I didn’t notice a huge difference, but I can adapt to just about anything so I’m probably not the best guy to speak on it

    • @thatwhitesrt2025
      @thatwhitesrt2025 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are these trucks better than Thunder? And does a shorter wheelbase help with flip tricks?

    • @darkwingduck7212
      @darkwingduck7212 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thatwhitesrt2025 it’s just different , they are both good trucks. Thunder gives you a bigger wheelbase by more Han half an inch. Depends on how you skate and what you skate.

    • @RikRiorik
      @RikRiorik ปีที่แล้ว

      My measurements on my AF1 55s puts the wheel base down by something like 0.125” compared to a set of Indies. This is with the nut flush with the king pin on both. The more you tighten down the more you decrease the wheel base. Also my 55s weigh in at roughly 396 grams when they were new. So around 20 grams difference on each truck. I just ordered a set of the Hollows. Will see if I get the same measurements.
