    I just watched your first video and had commented and noticed that you had a one year later video. Once again, I’d like to thank you very much for all your information. Being a mother of my son who just had a collapsed lung a few days ago, I must say I am quite worried about what is going to happen. But now seeing your video, it has ease my mind knowing that he can fully recover. The thoughts of all the pain that he will be going through and having to take time off work, I know will be hard on him, but knowing that he will hopefully recover as you , is peace of mind. Thank you very much for all your helpful information.

    @Sean Dillman I just watched the video and thank you for the reminder on your last video. I am doing much better now and i think it's almost 6 months after the surgery for me. I am very happy that you're functioning perfectly fine now. Although i have to say I'm not progressing as fast as you even though I'm of course happy and blessed to be progressing at all but if i would have to guess it would be because of that i had 2 pneumothorax's and i was laying home for a month after the first one before having a second one and having surgery so i didn't go into surgery in great shape and also i was very scared because it was something very new and hard for me...What i didn't like in my case was that both of those times i had a little bit of air left after...so both after the first one and second one i was home waiting for the air to absorb(and i gotta say it's not nice knowing you still have some air). I had some air even after the surgery(thats the second time i was talking about) but the doctors said it was good and acceptable because it was 0.7mm(0.7mm was after the surgery, but the first time they sent me home i still had almost 2cm of air if i remember correctly) which is below 1cm, but it was finally 0mm 1 month after that so that gave me a bit peace...i don't worry that much anymore because I've heard that some had it even worse and that it really varies on many things. Many people have a lot of different sensations that even last but you learn to deal with them as you get better if they don't go away completely.
    If anyone needs some help feel free to message me with a comment and we can even talk privately through some app by your liking
    It does get better so be strong everyone, don't be scared in the beginning if you can because that cost me a bit more time as i wasn't moving very much...i lost strength and muscle but also mobility, so listen to your nurses and doctors. It's normal to feel pain but again if you have a weird feeling rather have it checked and learn to listen to your body.
    Much greetings from Croatia once again to Sean and everyone else :)

      Hi Eric! I’m glad to hear that you’re doing much better now. It definitely sounds like your experience was more complicated and worse than mine, but mostly similar. I just responded to a comment from Samir who suffered pneumonia afterwards, which I have heard of. That would not be a good thing to have to go through.
      I feel like I have lately been feeling some sensations but then they go away. I’m not sure what to think. I just try to keep it out of my mind.
      I appreciate your offer to talk on another app. If you use Facebook or LinkedIn, please feel free to add me. Who knows, with the Croatian community, we may even find that we have some mutual connections.
      I agree with your message to everyone. It gets better. Listen to your nurses and doctors. Stay strong. It's normal to feel pain but listen to your body. 100% agree! 👍👍👍

      @@SeanDillman Yeah, although we all have a similar thing happening to us it varies on a lot of factors how the recovery goes.
      Don't worry about the sensatios, they'll go away. The mkst important thing is that you can function properly; train in the gym, travel and such. If tou forget about it for the most of the day that's already a win and imagine when a little bit more time passes, if it doesn't go away you'll at least be stronger and get used to it to the point it's like a minor headache i hope.
      Well some people don't wanna share their story this public maybe so i thought it's nice to offer them someone to talk to in private.
      I'm not really using both, but i might look you up on facebook even though I'm not active. :)
      Thank you for agreeing, i think a lot of people should see the message who are just getting into all this unfortunately.

    I had the same issue. Back in January i went through chest tube thingy. My chest tube was very thick and i never experienced such a pain before. Chest tube was removed in 3 three days and i was back to normal. Pneumothorax came back with in a month. Met a few doctors and i was advised to have a VATS. Two weeks back the surgery was done. The time in hospital was very hard to pass since i m not used to staying inside. The hospital environment itself was very depressing. After the surgery i developed pneumonia in the effected lung. Therefore my healing process is slow. I still feel difficulty while walking and get tired very soon. Plus i have this anxiety that Pneumothorax may come back again. 😫

      Hi Salim. Thank you for sharing. It is good to have another friend who has gone through this. Your experience is very similar to mine. I’m sorry to hear that you developed pneumonia afterwards. That is not something that happened to me. However, I definitely also have anxiety that I may suffer another pneumothorax someday. My hope is that as I get older, it will become less and less likely. I’m almost 40 years old now. How about you?

    Hi Sean - thanks for both videos, super helpful!
    I had my VATS pleurodisis 13 day ago and on the mend now. 2 questions did you have any amount of effusion in the chest post surgery and and how soon after the surgery did you take your first flight?
    Thanks very much!😊

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Ismail. You are most welcome. I'm glad that you found them to be helpful. I hope that you are feeling well after your surgery. If it was only 13 days ago, I can imagine that you are still feeling some pain. Hang in there. I'm sure that you'll be 100% soon. 😊
      For your first question, according to a website I found, "Pleural effusion, sometimes referred to as “water on the lungs,” is the build-up of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura outside the lungs." I didn't experience anything like this. Once I had my surgery, I had pain for a while as I recovered, but I didn't experience any sensation of fluid inside my chest cavity, and I didn't cough up any fluid or anything like that.
      For your second question, I had my surgery in February and then I flew in May, so it was about 3 months after my surgery that I took my first flight. I have had many flights since my surgery (including four 10 hour international flights) and I've never had any problem whatsoever. 😊✈👍

    • @Ismail_1188
      @Ismail_1188 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Sean - that is reassuring, glad no issues with flying, just gotta wait for 3 months then.
      Managed to speak about plural effusion to doctors, apparently that may develop in patients post pleurodisis. Statistically it happens only in 10%, by looks of it I’m there however they told it is not too concerning and hopefully will get absorbed soon!
      Take care and all the best!

    I had a collapsed lung due to a slip on ice. At first I thought I had a bruised rib but the pain kept getting worse over 24 hours and I ended up in the ER. It was fairly serious with a 70% collapse but they were able to put a small chest tube in and get the air out, took about 3 to 4 months for the pain to finally subside.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Joe. Oh wow. Fair enough that because you fell on the ice, you thought you had a bruised rib, not a collapsed lung. Lots of people in the comments, including me, thought that they were having heart attacks. I think my lung was about 70% collapsed too if I remember correctly. Isn't it amazing how 100% of one lung, and 30% of the second lung still isn't quite good enough to function with? I had a similar timeline, i.e., 3 or 4 months for the pain to subside. Fingers crossed that it will never happen again. 🤞👍

    Hey Sean, thank you for the videos! Funnily enough, I believe I had my surgery around the same exact time as you did. I was curious, although you said you have no lasting effects, do you ever feel discomfort or tightness in certain sideways sleeping positions where your torso is kind of twisiting? And also do you ever feel as though your surgical area hurts after you have a cough?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. You are most welcome. Oh wow. Funny to think that for both of us, there was someone else out there in the world going through the same thing at the same time. 😊 My answer to both of your questions is 'no'. At this point, I'm almost at the three year mark. I never notice any discomfort/tightness/sensation at all when sleeping, no matter the position, and I never feel anything at the surgical sites, even if I cough. The only thing I think I feel sometimes, randomly, is tightness in my chest, usually just in the middle of the day or in the evening, but sometimes I wonder if it is just a muscle sensation caused by something I did at the gym, though the feeling makes me feel uneasy because I surely do not want it to happen again. What about you? Do you notice anything other than the two things you mentioned? 🙏

      @@SeanDillman Most of the time I don’t feel anything, but I’ve found the 2 times I had coughing colds after my surgery, a little bit after id have tightness in my chest. It feels sort of like a lung collapse pain, but much more minor. And also when I lay down on my side in sort of a hunched postion, that hurts around the area I got surgery. I maybe shouldn’t be laying down that way anyways, but I do have certain post surgery limitations 😅 Regardless, happy to hear you’re doing good and it’s so nice to talk to somebody who can relate to my experience, it really made my day!

I find that I am a bit more sensitive to when I am around people who are smoking because it makes me worry about my lungs. Haha. I guess they are fine but now that I have went through this, I sort of want to baby them. As for lifting, I have been really busy with personal stuff (work and moving) so I haven't been going to the gym as much as I should be, but I have had no problem with lifting since the procedure. Recently I have felt a lot of aches in my right shoulder and side (my lung surgery was on the left) and my stomach, was wondering if anyone else was having the same feelings? I have gone to get them checked out multiple times and my lungs are in good condition the doctors tell me, so I am thinking it might be myself over compensating the one side of my body that wasn't affected and might have some strained muscle issues.

Do you take Creatine or supplements when you weight lift? I had small Pneumothorax’s on my right lung where they did surgery some blebs came back.. I seen a Thoracic surgeon last year he told me if I ever needed a chest tube again they would have to go in through Radiology because of my scarring from previous surgery did they tell you that?? He told me to tell the hospital staff or EMS to hold the brakes because it could be dangerous going in from the scarring from my surgery??? I never heard of such a thing I’m getting a second opinion.. Then I said well should I get a medical bracelet because I love riding my Harley and just say I was in a wreck and needed a chest tube on scene EMS won’t know not to put in a decompression needle if I was unconscious???? This isn’t the surgeon that did my surgery telling me this it’s another surgeon in the Pulmonary group I see now.. The surgeon that did my surgery retired.. I’m sorry but the Thoracic surgeon that told me this made me feel uncomfortable.. I’m getting a second opinion.. If that’s the case I should get a medical bracelet.. Hi Steveo. Not at all. I'm almost 40 years-old. I run ten minutes on the treadmill every morning before my main workout of lifting: bench, squats, deadlift, shoulder press, etc. I need to start ramping things up and I’ve been thinking of incorporating an outdoor run, maybe about 30 minutes at a moderate pace like I used to do. I recently started to take protein powder and have been thinking about ordering Athletic Greens. I've heard good things from a few good friends.
      Oh wow. I've never heard anything about what could happen if I ever needed another chest tube. That's a good call. I wonder if I should get a medical bracelet. Maybe something like 'right lung chemical pleurodesis YYYY/MM/DD'. Let me know how your second opinion goes. I don't personally do anything particularly dangerous that may cause me to be unconscious but one never knows when the proverbial piano will fall on one’s head.

      Me too. How has it been since then? Do you have any lasting effects? Do you ever feel anything from it?

    Did your doctor recommend that you NEVER fly again?

      Hi Bill. Not at all. I believe that I was told to not fly for about 3 months or so. I have flown many times since my surgery. ✈👍

    Hi Sean, i'm glad that you are fine, also that you remember me, and that u sent me link. This video is great 💪
    From my point, i can say that i'm good to. Now is 6 months behind me, and everything is fine for now. I'm traning last two months in gym and on bike, nothing to crazy or intense, and i start to run again last few weeks. I went on CT (MSCT), results are great, lungs are clear from future danger. Only thing what i find is that i have some metal stitches, and i feel stiffnes in morning or on cold days but is not so bad, we will see this summer how i will react on temperature changes.
    I wish you everything best man and stay healty 👊💪

      Hi Petar. I'm so glad to hear that you are doing well too, that your results were great from your scan, and that you are clear from future danger. Will your metal stitches come out or are they permanent? How is your gym routine going? 💪

      @@SeanDillman They are permanent and i can't even feel what part they connect. Workout in gym now is going fine, at beginning i struggled a lot. Usually i made 2 times per week gym workout and 2/3 times some cardio, bike, hike or run.

      Oh wow@@petardragojevic3960. I had never heard of permanent stiches. I just learned something for the day. 😊 Good to hear that your workouts are going well. I actually just added a form of EMS training. There is a studio near me that is offering it so I thought I'd try it. It's going really well so far. 👍 Have you ever tried it?

      @@SeanDillman I heard for it, but i never tried, i think that EMS has its good sides. Doctors find metal stitches on CT, i went in other hospital on health examination. They are like wire, i guess. Its a little bit weird felling 🤣😅. Thanks a lot man, and i wish u best in future 👊💪
