I was lookin' for an English Version of the Wattalappam recipe as I am an Indian and doesn't understand Sinhala. Finally, I found it.......Thanks for the post........!!
When I was in Sri Lanka My mother use to make watlapan in every little special occasion. I somehow Found jaggery in Pakistan. They are not like Sri lankan ones. But still gonna try as you mentioned here.... Your accent is really good BTW. 😊
Like 799 👍 watched the process with interest although I have made many bowls and trays of Watalappan before. Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow so thanks for sharing. Love the tip to take off the white part off the eggs to avoid the egg smell. Never done it and the thought of touching eggs ummm 😮 ok I will wear gloves 😅 Have a wonderful day 💐
Sister, When I make the wattalapam in the rice cooker it comes beautiful- lots of holes and juicy. However, when I steam it in the cook top in a pan I don’t get any holes - it’s like caramel texture. I am exactly the same technique. Why is this?
I got them so juicy with holes when I made it the first time...But now I don't get with holes although I follow the instructions as yours!! I neither over beat nor beat less!! ...What's going wrong with my Vatlappam???
Maybe ur beater is at high speed setting? Just check.... Beat eggs at low speed for about 15-30 seconds just until all eggs are combined.. next add jaggery & milk and beat for another 20 seconds... steam for 50 mints...

Good one. Coconut milk is the basic and main ingredient of vattillapam....
Adding some cashew nuts will certainly help make it even more yummy.
