      Thanks George. The wife and I just discovered your channel and love your builds. She'll likely steal an idea or two from you so feel free to steal this idea from us. The cool thing about an idea is it never gets used up. You can give it away to all and never diminish your original supply.

    Cleverist sink/counter hack ever! Even though we don’t have a PleasureWay... we have a similar configuration with home entertainment system at the end of the counter.

    Problem solved - THANK YOU Larry for sharing ! I've been trying to figure out how to extend the counter and not hide the screen. Wow -so simple YET so brilliant ! I also am planning a lagun table at the front. I would probably see adding a piece of support wood for the bracket either inside the closet or on the outside corner. And I am happy you added your brother's contact info . Once again, you are a blessing to the PW audience. So sad there isn't more people like you sharing PW ideas..THANK YOU !!!

    It is at a great height too. A lot will be set down from the counter height like 2 or 3 inches.

    • @baloodog3568
      @baloodog3568 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I lucked out on the height as I did not consciously consider when making this on-the-fly. I'll bet some other viewer will make a folding shelf that is exactly flush with the existing counter. All you need to do is increase the thickness of the maple board that attaches to the metal frame. I could actually just cut two more pieces of wood then place them between my brackets and the frame I made. It looks like the additional pieces of wood (acting as spacers) would have to be something between 1" to 1 1/2" thick. The added boards would make the shelf, when in the down position, protrude a little more. Builders can decide how to make theirs depending on how important a flush counter extension is.

    • @baloodog3568
      @baloodog3568 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Portia,
      I'm guessing your brackets are not attached to the cabinet wall in a parallel manner. I first attached my brackets to the cabinet wall making sure they were parallel. I then raised the brackets' shelf holder sections to the "up" position. Then I placed the picture frame on top of the extended brackets and secured the wood frame using wood screws pushed up through the bracket holes into the wood.

    • @portiahaizlip2566
      @portiahaizlip2566 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baloodog3568 that's exactly what I did but when I lowered the shelf it would not lower all the way down so I didn't put the screws all the way in and that seemed to work so maybe 12x1/2" long is better but I'm just guessing. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

      It's said that ideas are a dime a dozen...but he has turned it into reality...and seeing it in action ought to show PleasureWay the practical need to integrate it in. (After giving him a couple hundred grand. After all, he did take it from concept to finished product.) Might even take him on as research & development.👍😎

    • @baloodog3568
      @baloodog3568 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Amy. Pleasure Way builds the best vans around. The "picture frame" shelf would be a great addition to their models, especially the ones that have the touch-screen on the side of the counter. While the idea works well, it is still just a tilt up shelf and not on the same level as Velcro and White-Out. But thanks for the kind words.

    UPDATE- 1st Trip with Shelf
    The wife and I took our 1st "real" trip in our van with the shelf modification. We spent 9 days traveling parts of the Southwest including Moab, Utah. Our favorite spot was a little known place called Hovenweep National Monument. It was very remote, amazingly uncrowded, dog friendly, and had spotless bathrooms with flush toilets for the 33 beautiful campsites (of which 1/3 were unoccupied!) It has a wealth of ancient Puebloan village ruins which include towers that reminded me of European castles. The hikes above the valley ruins were mostly level and a very pleasant stroll. At an elevation of 5,200' the April/ May climate was comfortable in day and cool at night. GOOGLE THIS PLACE!
    BACK to SHELF- Unlike our earlier jaunts, we encountered rougher roads on this trip. The shelf, when in the down position during travel, made a good amount of rattling noise. Our temporary solution was to simply lock the picture frame in the "up" position while driving. This eliminated all noise.
    I am designing some sort of simple locking device that will tightly hold the picture frame against the counter wall while in the down position (using magnets or Velcro.) This will stop the brackets from lightly bouncing and making noise whenever the road gets rough. I will update you on what I decided on once completed.
    Other that that... the shelf was wonderful. The additional space was a blessing when preparing food and doing dishes. Having an easy place to put the Corian cover made for simple and quick access to the sink. Without it all kitchen chores would be much more difficult and frustrating.
    TIP- Although obvious, it took us a day or two to figure out that it is a good idea to place your Corian sink cover up-side-down when in the picture frame shelf holder. That way any scratches you may make while working in the kitchen will be on the bottom and not visible when you return the Corian right-side-up to the sink.
    Larry

    • @baloodog3568

      Hi Rose. We are loving our 2.2 and know you will be absolutely thrilled. We stumbled upon another really great mod for the 2.2 while installing an additional Lagun mount up front. Basically, there is a microwave-size hollow space under the bathroom vanity floor. We got a little elaborate and routed an outside opening for a maple door. However, anyone can take a simple drill-hole-saw (4" or 6" or 8") and easily drill through the outside wall, or through the vanity floor. You can get a marine access port on Amazon that finishes it off nicely and provides a screw off opening. My wife packed all our tools, tire inflator, battery jumper system, and a whole bumch of other stuff in there. We have a short, homemade video showing what we did at- th-cam.com/video/dBw-KssAanY/w-d-xo.html

    UPDATE - Installed fix for shelf bracket rattle on rough roads.
    Below is a link/URL to a short TH-cam video showing the fix I installed which holds the folded shelf frame secure against the cabinet wall during travel. This eliminated the rattle noise made by the shelf brackets when traveling on roads that are other than smooth. Cost was less than $7.00 for parts. There are many other ways of accomplishing the same thing but this seemed a simple and easy method.

      Hi Ela.
      The next best mod we did to our 2021 On Tour 2.2 is capturing the space
      Under the vanity. We are right now in Moab on our first real trip and that extra space has proven valuable. I've accessed it several times already to get my tools and manuals. Lots of stuff in there. The extended shelf has worked great and we realize how much more difficult cooking would have
      been without it. Video link to extra space below.

    Our 2006 PW Plateau has a pair of pull-out rails very close to where he installed the metal brackets. They extend and the sink cover fits on, to provide an extension to the counter, just like he made. There is also a hinged, flip-up counter-extension at the other end that opens over the bench seat. I wonder why PW dropped the rails.

      Debbie is correct that I used lock washers and nuts on a screw extended through the cabinet side. I think the proper term for the screws are "Machine Screws." At least that is what the Home Depot aisle sign had on it. Also add a good sized "flat washer" to the mix. So, the sequence would be- Machine screw through metal bracket hole... then through hole drilled through side of wood counter... then through flat washer... then through lock washer... the finally through tightened nut.
      To attach the picture frame to the metal brackets I used wood screws.

I brushed some on, let it set a few minutes, wiped with a clean cloth, then waited a couple minutes and wiped with a rag with paint thinner on it until much of the white faded and better matched the cabinet.

    So brilliant.. Question for Larry; I want to do the same on my 2020 Lexor FL... Have you removed the touchscreen control panel ( 2 small screws in the bottom) to install the stainless brackets..

      Not sure Larry will check back on this but the bracket placement did not interfere with the touchscreen.

    We love our ontour 2.2 but fail to understand why PW does not order standard features like adaptive cruise control, wheel well covers (I have never seen a vehicle that did not include wheel well covers), electronic rear view mirrors (a safety issue) and other basic features that Cannot be added by Ford in aftermarket fees.

    • @FromShetoMe

      I think it’s because of how difficult it is to get any vehicles, let alone add upgrades.

    Great Solution, but what a stupid place to put the screen - should be above the slider or somewhere else you can see and use it easily without having the bend right down or get out of the van!

    • @baloodog3568
      @baloodog3568 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Linz,
      The screen location is kind of a compromise because of the problem you noted. The good thing about it is you can operate everything from outside when advantageous like the awning, outside lights... and if you come home after dark, it is great for lighting the inside before entering. Pleasure Way put a 2nd, exact same touch screen panel at eye level in the rear of the coach. We find them both handy depending upon where we are at the moment. Thanks.

Thanks for all you do to help a couple of new van travelers.

      You're welcome. I hope you have a great trip. Beautiful time to be visiting those areas. We have not done that part of Arizona with our van. Years ago we did a Backroads Bicycle tour from Sedona to Jerome but have not done any hiking. One of our viewers, "TD Adventures" has a channel and they recently posted several hikes from Sedona. Heads up, Sedona is a zoo. Hope you can at least do it mid week. We will probably hit those areas next fall.

    Off subject, but do you need a special sewing machine to get through the thickness of the fabric you used fir your insulated window curtains? AND how many yards of Warm Window Fabric did you need? I just want a ballpark figure. We will have a Lexor in a couple of weeks & I want to at least have some fabric so I can be ready to get sewing.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No special machine required for the fabric. A walking foot attachment may be helpful but I didn't use one. I really don't remember how many yards I used. I want to say 5 yards but I re-worked the back and purchased extra. And the Lexor is a bigger rig so the windows may be larger. The fabric is 54" wide so if your windows are wider than that, then you'll either have to piece it (which is no problem) or lay it out length wise. Either way is fine. Larry, Any precautions for screwing or drilling shelf brackets on left side of monitor? Can you hit plumbing?

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bill, I'll ask Larry to respond to your question.

    • @baloodog3568
      @baloodog3568 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, my 2021 Ontour 2.2 is almost completely clean on the inside of the wall that the brackets screws pass through. I did place only 5 machine screws through the 6 holes in the brackets. Behind the right side bracket's bottom hole was the hinge for the cabinet door. I left that one out. The brackets are rated for something like 350 pounds so no problem, especially since the top screws bear most all of the burden due to less leverage. You could really just put in 4 screws and be just fine. There is room to move the brackets left-right a bit depending upon how wide you made your picture frame.

    • @baloodog3568
      @baloodog3568 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The monitor is so thin it all sits entirely on the surface of the cabinet's side. There is no hidden part of the monitor. There is about a 1/2" hole in the wall behind the monitor where the wire comes through but does not obstruct installation in any way. The only hard part is taking out the drawer for working room. My pea-brain couldn't figure it out so I just twisted my arms in unnatural ways to tighten the nuts.
