Dear Mel, My name is Petter Svensson and i am purchasing manager at Boatsystem Group Sweden AB. We are the owners and producers of the Lagun table system. I can confirm that every single piece and bit of the original Lagun system is manufactured in Sweden with the assembly in Stockholm. We do not produce any lower tiers at all. Most knockoffs are from different producers in China, and we have no affiliation with any of them.
Great getting a new table and being done with it. Ive seen people using pipping. No handles, swivels etc.. Easy to use. So it just depends on how you set it up.
Great comparison Mel . My table (lagun) is about 4 years old and is as good as it was out of the box, so I can attest to the quality. I guess the knock off will do the job quite adequately. 👍👍
I have 2x fake ones for a while, if you put a good fitting metal washer (stainless I used) after the plastic one, before the tightening lever, it will stop the brass nut insert pulling through. After time, and some over tightening, the brass insert will pop out, go through plastic washer and get stuck in aluminium frame. Other than that it is very good, some cloudy discolouration on the aluminium frame, but for the money difference it's not a deal breaker.
@@BigVanSmallWorld Your welcome no worries, I got them before Vat kicked in on Ali Express, worked out ~85 each delivered, at the time. Would prob get branded version now, I presume the handles/nuts on the Lagun are better quality ?
On EBAY £113 for the fake one and £140 for the original I think I'll get the original, if the fake one was half the price then I'd probably get that but not when the price is so close together. Thanks for the comparison Mel, I'm currently looking at table legs for my van so it came at a good time.
The table mount pin was tight on your knock off and when I assembled mine the pin dropped straight in. There is movement from the table even when the clamp is tight. I will try a few wraps of insulation tape to firm it up and drive it in to see if that improves it. Apart from that the components are very heavy duty and well made.
Great comparison Mel, we've just changed our Motor home to a self build camper van due to parking issues when away so its great picking up ideas when downsizing x

"Ow" at ~9:00 is the best moment on the internets. I notice the top folds in half -- you build it custom? How big/heavy a table top will cantilever support. Thanks!
I've just bought and installed a knock-off one myself actually! Something I've noticed is when the vertical leg fixing pin is at the same height as the mounting plate, it's secure as anything. But when I drop it down a bit, where the fixing pin is no longer pulling the metal together where it's in contact with the plate there's a fair bit of play and it's not as stable. Would be interesting to see if the Lagun and your knock-off have similar issues. (I'm sure you can explain it better than me!)
Hiya the extra 25 quid is worth it I reckon , just a thought if you fitted yours to the bed upright looks like it’ll clear the bed , just a thought , great vid as always cheered up a damp Sunday night
the max height you can achieve is limited by the placement of the mouting plate. You could have had an extra 3 inches of height available. I think taking some time simulating usage is going to be really important when deciding where to mount this. i just ordered one of the copies as this looks the nuts compared to most other table options I have seen.
Mel I'm looking at these now. How much! There's a diy version made outa threaded pipe and a flange which is similar to your original one! Thanks Mel might bump into you for a pint one day! Ya never know. Thanks for the comparison.
Thanks for that Mel, useful to know 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Got the same table set up as you had, it is okay for now. Will properly upgrade soon to a Lagun table, think i will pay that bit more and go for a genuine one. Worth it to me as will be using most days. Will be interesting to see how you get on with yours over the weeks, enjoy 👍😊
I had the original Lagun but after a few months one of the handles jammed and needed to be replaced. Luckily they agreed to replace it under warranty. A year later those two peg holes were completely worn out (even though my table could only move back and forth for a little bit) and the angle of the table got so steep that I had to take that into account when poring a drink so it wouldn't spill. I contacted the seller again (...) but this wasn't under warranty. Which I found really bad service for such an expensive product. Those pegs and peg holes are just plastic which is not suitable for this type of movement and friction. This is a big flaw of this leg imo. I also wanted to be able to pivot the table over my bed, just like Mel but the leg couldn't reach it either. It could have if that slot was over the entire length (except for the last bit of course) of the leg. With an extra hole higher up for the handle that would've been the solution for my situation. If they had done that, the leg would be more versatile.
Thank you for taking the time to comment that’s really appreciated so I think from what you said it’s definitely a good idea to use silicon on the pegs 👍
These table legs are brilliant ♥️ great comparison bud ;) will be good to see if the nock off can handle the use in time. Looks good tho :) great video buddy 🤗☺️

Good info Mel. I've managed to buy a second hand Lagun table leg with formica top for about a third of the price of the leg here in NZ. I was interested to see if the fake Lagun mount was usable with the real Lagun leg as I'd like another mounting plate and the fake ones are about NZ$30 off AliExpress/Amazon/ebay compared to the real ones at NZ$75 or $98 locally - depending on stockiest here. I plan to mount mine on the end of the kitchen unit by the slider, then it will swing into the slider space to extend the kitchen unit either across the doorway or at 90 degrees to the kitchen unit or swing round to use with the side facing sofa. When not in use it can be raised a little to swing over the kitchen benchtop - like the table in the old VW transporters did. Off to watch your video installing the real Lagun leg in Beckie's van now to see if you have any tips for me :-)

Hey, the eBay links aren't showing the listings anymore. I wonder is there multiple knock off types or the knock off's are much the same themselves. From what I can see at the moment, the knock off's are around £95 and the original around £165.
How stable is the Lagun table when used in real life? Is there any wobble or give? And how much weight can they support? As no one ever mentions what they are actually like to use. Thanks.

Did you not consider mounting to the bed wood...which is considerably higher than the sofa? Or use a a rectangle piece of plywood or lumber about an inch thick...extend it above the place where you had your old mount and once mounted..you then can mount your knock off "lagun" leg to the lumber. Paint your lumber to match your furnishings and you'll never notice it once everything is installed.

You missed an opportunity. You showed that the "leg" was different, you missed it the swing arm was interchangeable or not. You show the subtle difference, but you actually could have tried to see if it would fit or not. I was stupid and bought the cheap Chinese knockoff to save money, the tightening knobs stripped the first time i tried to tighten it. They would work good on anything except a regular RV sized table.
@@BigVanSmallWorld yep, I've just added some washers, hoping they will help keep it stable, it definitely isn't as well made as the original, that my friend has
Lagun is made in Sweden and is so much higher quality. The Lagun is anodized aluminum while the knock off is painted. The system relies on tolerance for long term use, and the knock off is a cheap chinese painted one. Once the paint is scratched the tolerances are compromised. The way to say it is LA GOON not LA gun. He cant even get that right. For the money difference you can own the best with the Lagun and quality is evident. Bolts pressed in the Lagun instead of hand turned in. The plastic caps are completely different in composition and the knock off version struggle to stay in place. You GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! I bought the cheap one first, and it is glitchy and so then bought the Lagun. Should of bought quality the first time and got another lesson of price and Chinese knock off products. A word to the wise should be sufficient.

Oh my goodness me I’m sorry to hear that. I think you must have gotten a right bad one mine is still going strong
@@BigVanSmallWorld yep, I've just added some washers, hoping they will help keep it stable, it definitely isn't as well made as the original, that my friend has

The original is anodized, and the knock-offs are painted.
I didn’t know that👍
Lagun is made in Sweden and is so much higher quality.
Hate these tables. Absolutely wasted of money.
Why? What is your advice? #EWTPWGYE - greetings from The Netherlands, Theo

Hi Mel, thanks for the video. I'm a Trendwatcher on many subjects and watch a lot of videos. It's a hobby! I also have a private Facebookgroup for small campervans. This is for The Netherlands and the part of Belgium where they speak Dutch. How has it been with the copy since you released this video?
With "Enjoy With The People Who Give You ENERGY (#EWTPWGYE)!!!"-greetings from the Netherlands,
