Amazing video! Hellblazer is undoubtedly my favorite comic ever and Constantine my favorite fiction character. It's great seeing someone talk about him despite how overlooked he is this days.
The worst thing that ever happened to Constantine was being transfered to DCs main. His Vertigo comics were so cool ang good mainly bc the writers could do almost anything. I mean, Vertigo's the imprint in wich Preacher was published, so sky was the limit. Since DC is DC the stories had to be toned down, wich narrowed the possiblities for writers, and since he's "a magician" they did the standart magician shit. Apparentely in the Sandman Universe his stories are truer to Vertigo tho.
I liked him in justice league dark. He’s clearly not a team player and he betrays them multiple times in the new 52 JLD. I loved the Simon Spurrier Sandman Universe run as it felt like classic hellblazer. A lot of people don’t like the new 52 John and the fact that that version has been the inspiration for animation and live action Matt Ryan Constantine appearances. Personally I like a mix of both. I like that he can hold his own in a fight like the new 52 essentially taking on a Batman like role for the occult world of dc. However I do miss when they allowed John to be morally ambiguous at times. He’s been much less of a full on bastard in the new 52. My ideal John Constantine which I hope they do in James Gunn’s DCU as well is a mix of original Hellblazer Constantine and New 52. What I mean by that is being a very proficient magic user like in the new 52 while still occasionally being a horrific person who’s the direct cause of the misery of others around him and conning his way out of any situation. The way I envision his arc for the DCU is that he starts off more like Hellblazer John who is very far from being a halfway decent person and gradually becoming closer to the new 52 John. What I mean by that is not that he basically becomes a trenchcoat wearing superhero but someone who the core heroes of the DCU would actually work with since Hellblazer John is not someone that Batman or Superman would ever consider fighting alongside even if the world ended while the newer John they would albeit with hesitation. That way we get the best of both worlds. He’s a character who I could definitely see having a long tenure within the DCU cause there’s just so much stuff you could do with John Constantine which hopefully will include a solo franchise (movies, animation or tv) and Justice League Dark and after that maybe being in the DCU equivalent of Endgame which would be something like Darkseid War or Crisis.
when i read the books its "TEEN" when other characters say it and "Tine" when john and chaz say it. i think it plays on the joke in Original sins when he spells it out for everyone.
I don’t mind the name pronunciation issue because it’s something that exists in real life. I often tell my EFL / ESL students that British English and American English aren’t very different at all. But this is one of those small & rare things. Try getting an American to call someone Bernard with emphasis on the first syllable (success will be rare). The podcast “the Dreaming” is excellent and explains the name pronunciation with patience and kindness.
'teen' does roll off the tongue better, but why use any variation or alteration of a character when talking exactly about the main character? kind of like saying, he's British, but I prefer that he's American or Jamaican for that matter, because somebody made a change and I like it. i hate saying 'tine' but I do because it's the original intention. i've read the comic books several times but I don't remember if any writers make reference to him caring about it or not. i guess in the end he probably wouldn't care either so I guess that makes it irrelevant.

This was a nice summary. I've been reading Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run and I plan to jump straight to Hellblazer once I'm finished with it.

He literally has a comic that is exactly like his vertigo stuff… goes to show u dont read shit
@@Walka_Vodka_ but that’s under the Sandman Universe imprint, not DC Universe. My comment is about the DCU stuff, not SU. Read it all before replying
We need John and other DC characters to appear immediately.
Read more books
Constantine is probably my favorite wizard like character in fiction
Appreciate the info on Constantine. I had only a cursory knowledge of the story and you really filled in a lot of the gaps on a great character.

also the first of the fallen, to prove their claim of their soul. if you have the name wrong it's the wrong soul.
Always liked him. Need more of him in other media
Ah...the good ol days of Vertigo's John Constantine. Also best Constantine cameo is...The Books of Magic!

@@TheLoneWonderer163 ahhhhhhh yees
Seems like Harry Dresden but without the sawed off shotgun
Nah...Dresden is a nice guy...Constantine is an a**hole! That's why he's one of my favorite comic book characters.
