hi Chris - I use a low mount fixed spool on AFAW GB FS Pro. As you found, the only thing is your aerialised South African cast worked better than the pendulum you use with multipliers. Try the brighton cast or John Holden's easy cast, better still I think.
Same species...common smoothound. Starry smoothound are not in our waters. They prefer warmer water. There was a study done here in Ireland by a student in Trinity College.

Fixed spool low mount is the seu up I am using and I love it. I tend to use the deeper spool spinning reels to hold heavier braid

What part Morfa is best? Down towards sker or down towards port talbot, never fished the area
