The Goldwing has been my lifelong favorite bike, and a lifelong dream bike to get.. And finally in 2020, I was ready and able to finally buy a Goldwing. But that was also the year I discovered that you can research anything you want, to death, on something called TH-cam. I had a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager in 2020, which I loved, but it wasn't a Goldwing. I was watching tons of Goldwing videos, especially the videos comparing the newer 2018+ generation of Goldwings to the previous model up to 2017. But these dang Spyder video suggestions kept showing up, and I started watching those videos too, especially because of the complete re-design of the 2020 Spyder compared to the previous model up to 2019. For all the same reasons you mentioned... touring, comfort, riding long miles, etc. And in the end, my head finally focused on which bike will allow me the most "years" of comfortable touring long distance riding, and a Spyder ended up in my garage, and it's been a dream. I still might add a Goldwing at some point, for a couple years of riding fun, because the Goldwing always has been my favorite bike that I've never owned. So if you don't stop playing in my head Patrick, I will be blaming you again for another bike purchase 😁😅🤣🤣👍👍
😂😂😂 Then I’ll apologize now!! I love this bike, and I’ll keep talking about how much fun, and how great it is for touring, and camping, and twistys, and two up, and….. You did well with the Spyder! Such a perfect bike for what you love to do with the traveling, and the Mini Mate!!
My son-in-law who is (was) a diehard Harley rider bought a 2010 Yellow Wing that has a trike kit. He is having back problems after his time in the USMC. I went out to Texas to help him inspect, test ride and then trailer it back. It’s pretty nice. I may take it for a ride this weekend
I’m sorry to hear about his back problems, but it’s great he’s going to be riding! I’ve seen some Wings with the trike kits, they look pretty cool! I bet it will ride so nice, you’ll have to let me know if you get to ride it! Thanks for stopping by, be well, Patrick
I got a 97 1500SE three years ago and love it. There IS a learning curve with any big bike but I was impressed with how stable it rode on the gravel roads I had to take to get it home. Once you get it moving it's a breeze but low speed is what gets you. Take the MSA class again if you have to and practice in parking lots. Those low speed skills are dimishable.
Slow speed practicing is a huge help! I do it fairly often, and love it! They are extremely well balanced, and I think very easy to get comfortable on. I have also been on gravel roads with it, it does quite well. I prefer my VStrom off pavement though!! Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting! Be well, Patrick
Always ridden Harley touring bikes but always admired the Goldwings. Bogey Biker sent me your way. Enjoyed hearing your perspective on riding larger bikes!

I'm a Harley guy too. I've owned 2 ultras and currently on a 2002 wing.To me the Harley touring bikes are just a little more comfortable but that's subjective. Everyone adjusts their car seat a little different. The Harley is actually about 40 pounds lighter but feels heavier and comes off the kickstand a little harder. The wing is smoother and quiet. I've come to appreciate the quiet as I got older. If cost is a concern, used wings are a bargain. For maintenance the wing wins. The air filter on a wing is a royal pia to change but it lasts 50k miles so it's not something you'll have to do often.
@@paulzumpf3612 Hey Paul. I love the fact you are qualified to compare the bikes. I have zero experience riding any Harley for any distance. I know how comfortable I am on the Wing, and I love it. If you happen to travel through the mountains of Western North Carolina on your way to Florida, let me know, maybe I can ride with you for a bit… Patrick
I rode my 2009 yellow Yellin Helen 1800 gold wing from southern Illinois to Everglades City Florida pulling my timeout camper and boy was it a trip. Interstates sure are fast but rough and dangerous with all the crazy traffic. I’d make sure and map your trip out cause it’s crazy doing it with no plan and riding by the seat of your pants! I did this solo and the trip was a journey in itself to go python hunting
Great video! I'm in a similar position, I owned a GL1100 Interstate in '91 in my late 20s, last rode a bike in' 94, was off bikes until 2014, then bought a 150 Vespa, even that was initially intimidating in traffic. I swopped the Vespa for a PCX150 in 2016 and added an ST1300 in 2021, but found the ST too top heavy and sold it within a month. I'm now considering a beautiful '91 GL1500 SE, but am still haunted by the ST1300 memories. I don't want to make the same mistake twice, then again, I used to throw my GL1100 Interstate around like a 50cc. To do or not to do, that is the question.
@@Visionery1 Thank you so much for the kind words! I have always enjoyed these bikes, and I feel like the weight is so low, that it rarely ever feels too heavy to me. I have not been on a ST1300, so I don’t know how it compares to. There are times that the Wing feels a bit heavy coming off the kickstand, usually only when I park on a slant and it’s leaning more than it should. Great video my friend. I am sure not brand exclusive and every bike seems worthy. This bike now seems to just fit me so well. I rode a 2024 today and almost....almost....almost. Bought 2 new tires instead. Be well my friend.
Almost!!! Two tires were probably cheaper!😂😂😂 You look great on your bike, hold on to it for awhile, but if do decide to check out a new Goldwing, buy 2, I would love one!😂😂😂😂
Good video. Thanks! My experience has shown me that being too timid in low speed maneuvers is a problem. I have had that issue more than once riding an unfamiliar bike. Thank goodness nothing catastrophic resulted.
Hey Rob! I agree, the bigger the bike, the more intimidating the slow speeds are. I have dropped all my bikes at slow speed maneuvers at one point!😂 Like you, I was fortunate to not have anything catastrophic happen either!!
I haven't ever owned a Goldwing but I've ridden various models of them since 1976 through 2015 and found much better than I expected. It only took me a 30 minutes of riding to feel comfortable once in motion but I didn't ride them enough to get comfortable at low speeds.
They are easy to handle, but it does take some time get comfortable at the slow speeds. I’m sure with your experience on so many different bikes, it wouldn’t take long to do really well at slow speeds! Your review reminds me of my first goldwing I owned 2007 bike...when I first rode it within 10 min I thought....what the hell have you done....it was the most intimidating bike i had owned...im now on my third a 2020 dct....when we go out on a group ride all of my riding mates can never comprehend how such a big bike can be ridden at such a low speed in traffic...my point is that you cannot just spend a few weeks on one of these wonderful machines and expect to be at one.... but given time and you'll never never regret.... goldwings are the best touring bike available and those who say different are the ones that are intimidated and won't even admit.
😂😂 I agree!! They feel big at first, but once you’ve become used to it, it’s such a dream to ride!! Thanks for watching, and for the great comment!!! Patrick
I recently obtained a 1978 goldwing that is all sorts of torn apart/rusted and corroded. I’ve never ridden a goldwing in my life, but I’m slowly building this one back up (the engine and frame look fine, the tank is dirty but it should be fine if I clean it out, brand new spark plugs, etc. on it so far. Most of the external hardware is broken/unusable though) Can’t wait to see it running, it’s been sitting torn apart for at least 3yrs (it ran before that though).
@@demonman1234 That’s a classic motorcycle! I rainy hope you get it put back together, and in hope you keep me posted on how it goes!! Thanks for stopping by, be well, Patrick
@@Motoramblings I may forget, but I’ll try. The bike is in a really bad shape right now though.. I’m gonna be pretty much shoveling money into it to fix it. But, I’m dedicated to making it run again.
I didn’t know you became Santa Claus at Christmas time 😉😂 I’m the opposite, I have rode a road glide but I’ve never rode a goldwing. You definitely are a big goldwing fan, but I love how much mileage you’ve done on this one, shows the connection between man and bike 🏍️💨 I still love the interceptor, what a bike. People don’t like the look of big bikes, even young guys who I ride with don’t like the ZZR because they think it is too big for a sportsbike 😂 Only the goldwing could look like it barely fell over when dropped 😂 One day I will look to try a goldwing, I’ll let you know my thoughts when I do 😂💪 Great video mate, well spoken 🤘
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on a Goldwing!! Big bikes can be fun, but people do tend to not like the look…. The interceptor is very cool, I can’t wait to take a good long ride on it. How did you know I was such a big fan of the Goldwing??😂😂😂 Yes, I do have a Santa look going on at Christmas, right down to the weight gain!! (Video forthcoming 😂) Thanks once again for another great comment! I enjoy this back and forth my friend!!
Great video, Patrick! Yep, it's a motorcycle... they all do and function basically the same. There's some tricks to riding a big bike better for the less-skilled of us [me], and the slow-speed stuff can be nerve-wracking until you've practiced. You just can't beat a big touring bike though, for 95% of the riding I [and probably you] do :D
The slow speed stuff is great for building confidence in riding the big bikes for sure! I do believe when it comes to the big bikes, you should get some saddle time before trying the slow speed stuff. Over these long years of riding, I have found two bikes that do everything I want to do on two wheels, and the GW does everything I want on pavement!! Thanks man!
For the last 6 ridding seasons I've been riding a 1997 yamaha royal star. Great bike. This year I just bought a 1994 Honda goldwing aspencade. The first time that I rode it, it felt like a was driving a 2 wheeled winnebago. I was not ready to have so much real-estate up in front of me. But I'm starting to feel more comfortable, the more I ride it. It's very smooth, powerful and has great wind protection. I've already rode in the rain and everything went around me. I didn't get wet.
Riding with all that fairing in front of you takes some getting used to!!! Once you do get used to it, I bet you’ll find it such a pleasure to climb on board the Winnebago!😂 I absolutely love how you can ride in the rain and not get wet, they are incredible machines in a lot of ways. Good luck, and thank you so much for watching, and for commenting!! Be well, Patrick
I road one one time(the one boltbucket road across on his way to TX) and like you said it was intimating but if I was to ride it a while I would get use to it.
Gday mate now i have ridden since i was 16 around 1976 ive ridden all kinds of bikes got my licence on a 650 xs2 yamaha , i have always thought the goldwing was the pinacle of motorcycles ,now im about 64 and a bit now riding a 500x honda which is a great bike but i am looking in the near future of getting a goldwing the one bike i have always wanted to own . Now it aint going to be a new one probably between 2004 and 2012 i think if i do get it it will be as you say difficult for a short time until the brain adjusts to the size weight and as you say moving it is no different to a 250 but stopping and turning at slow speed it sure would be and although i practice gerry palidinos tactics i could see myself doing exactly what you showed (falling off) one bonus is your close to the ground but picking it up well thats another story again practice , anyway good video .
Thanks so much! The Goldwing is intimidating at first, it’s a big ole bike for sure. Once you’ve put some miles down on it, practicing some of the Ride Like a Pro stuff will be a bit easier to try, and then it will be easier to master. I love taking this bike through the twistys, but maneuvering it at slow speeds, in tight spaces is the best feeling!😂🤣😂 Thanks so much for watching, and especially for commenting! Good luck with getting the bike, and with getting comfortable on it! Patrick
New goldwing owner in the UK here. I am still a bit terrified of my wing despite having owned many other bikes of different sizes and classes! At speed it is FANTASTIC but at slow speed it is a real pig. Hopefully it will get better as you say.
It will absolutely get better! Start with a straight line at the slowest speed you’re comfortable with, and eventually go slower. Then add the “maneuvers”. As you know, I love my big ole bike!!! Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting! Be well, Patrick
I won’t ever have another big bike unless it’s a Goldwing I love my 2009 Yelln Helen Honda Goldwing 1800. All the comforts for a long distance trip with no equal.
The simple answer is yes. The long wheel base makes it tricker in tight spaces, but where it’s meant to be there is no bike better. But I’m biased. 😂 nothing beats the low end power of the flat 6.

Hi ya Patrick some big bikes do look intimidating at first I dropped my bmw 4 times now twice with the disc lock on lesson learned. And a turn in the road which had a very steep incline that’s when mr gravity came in to play then I ok pulled up in a lay-by parking place on a main road did not realise I was on the path went to put my feet down but the ground wasn’t there hence the 4 drop But still get and ride it it’s the F850 GSA the the one with the big tank even bmw call them the Beast I had the Yamaha Virago 750 shaft drive in midnight blue with loads of chrome and cruising lights on sold that to a DR 👍👍🏍️
The Yamaha Virago was such a great bike! I remember the video when you went to park, and the ground wasn’t there. Those big BMWs, with that high fuel tank are some HEAVY BEASTS!! Steep hills with tight turns can be tricky to get right, they also scare some folks into going too slow. I’ve seen that exact drop happen in front of me on several occasions!! Glad you’re still riding and having fun!!
@@GwenMotoGirl Hey Gwen, the F6Bs are awesome, a lighter version of this bike. @@alfredmccoy5182 The size is very intimidating at first. Give it a few days of riding, and you’ll find it’s as easy, or even easier to ride than some others you may have ridden. The weight is all down low, making it very easy to maneuver. (Not to mention the low seat height) Ride one, get used to starting and stopping without paddling your feet, then get comfortable at speed. Only then should you start trying to do slow speed practicing. Thanks for watching, and for the comment, and good luck! I don’t think you will be disappointed if you buy one!! Patrick
I'm currently riding a Bonneville T100 and want to upgrade to hondagoldwing. I have been riding for quite long....but worried about the weight. Please let me know your thoughts
I’ve not been on a Bonneville, but I do know it’s a good sized bike. The Goldwing is heavy, but as I’m sure you’ve heard before, the weight is very low on this bike. The bike does not feel as heavy as it is, it does feel big, but not heavy. I highly recommend it!! It is a bike that very quickly becomes extremely easy to ride! I think I became more comfortable with this bike quicker than any other bike I’ve been on….. good luck! I don’t think you’ll regret getting a Goldwing!!!! Patrick
Riding a bigger bike when not used to it is definitely intimidating. We had a 750 Honda Nighthawk, which weighed somewhere around 470 lbs. Then, I went to a 1300 Yamaha fjr, which weighed around 670 lbs. and it was very intimidating at first, plus the weight on the fjr was up high. Our Harley weighs 250 more than the fjr but is easier to ride because the weight sits lower.
@@Motoramblings it was fun but in all honesty I enjoy riding the Harley on curvy roads more than the fjr. I know that sounds hard to believe and I wouldn't believe it if i hadn't experienced it for myself. The main thing I miss about the fjr is it's speed.
I figured the Goldwings were easier to ride with the low center of gravity. The I have interest in the Gen 1 and Gen 2s, the ones that look great with vetter fairings
Couldn’t agree more!! Great bikes, and so much fun! I am a bit disappointed the new generation has a bit less storage, and not as much passenger comfort…. But I’m sure I’ll be on one in the future! Thanks for checking it out, be well, Patrick
Easy to ride, yes. Easy to ride well takes a lot of practice. Even a monkey can be taught to ride a bike in a straight line and do basic turns. Many riders never get beyond the "monkey" stage. Beautiful bike, by the way. I have a gorgeous white Goldwing myself! Ride safe. Ride well. Ride often.

Most of the external hardware is broken/unusable though)
Can’t wait to see it running, it’s been sitting torn apart for at least 3yrs (it ran before that though).
@@demonman1234 I’m looking forward to it!
I didn’t know you became Santa Claus at Christmas time 😉😂
I’m the opposite, I have rode a road glide but I’ve never rode a goldwing.
You definitely are a big goldwing fan, but I love how much mileage you’ve done on this one, shows the connection between man and bike 🏍️💨
I still love the interceptor, what a bike.
People don’t like the look of big bikes, even young guys who I ride with don’t like the ZZR because they think it is too big for a sportsbike 😂
Only the goldwing could look like it barely fell over when dropped 😂
One day I will look to try a goldwing, I’ll let you know my thoughts when I do 😂💪
Great video mate, well spoken 🤘
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on a Goldwing!! Big bikes can be fun, but people do tend to not like the look…. The interceptor is very cool, I can’t wait to take a good long ride on it. How did you know I was such a big fan of the Goldwing??😂😂😂
Yes, I do have a Santa look going on at Christmas, right down to the weight gain!! (Video forthcoming 😂)
Thanks once again for another great comment!
It gets easier and easier to ride every time you get on it too!! Such a fun bike!!!
Practice tight figure 8s
They are big bikes, but I've seen so many people able to whip them around. I've heard good things about Goldwings.
For a big bike, it’s super easy to “flick” around the corners!!
I won’t ever have another big bike unless it’s a Goldwing I love my 2009 Yelln Helen Honda Goldwing 1800. All the comforts for a long distance trip with no equal.
@@kylekilroyshelton6822 absolutely agree!!! I love the Goldwing, I will always have one!. Thanks for watching, and for the great comment!!! Patrick
The simple answer is yes. The long wheel base makes it tricker in tight spaces, but where it’s meant to be there is no bike better. But I’m biased. 😂 nothing beats the low end power of the flat 6.
As you know, I absolutely agree!! I can only imagine how great the new generation perform! I’ve really enjoyed every one I’ve had to this point.
So if you don't stop playing in my head Patrick, I will be blaming you again for another bike purchase
Deja Vu!
@@Motoramblings 😅 ... they missed copying the emojis at the end of my comment 🤣
@@SpyderWayne 😂😂
I find myself thinking about a goldwing more and more these days!
I have loved all of mine!!! They are fun, and they are mileage eaters!!
Low center of gravity and effortless power sounds good to me!
It is pretty awesome!!!!
I want an F6B. Thanks for this video.
@@GwenMotoGirl Hey Gwen, the F6Bs are awesome, a lighter version of this bike. If you haven’t already, check out Boots and Jeans Riders, they are a couple from California that ride all over the country, over and over again. Kake rides an F6B. Thanks so much for watching, and especially for commenting! Be well, Patrick
@@Motoramblings fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation! New sub here.
@@GwenMotoGirl Thank you for that! I really appreciate it! I hope you enjoy the videos!!
Merry Christmas 😊😊
Same to you Larry!😂😂😂😂
I want one. But worried about the size.
I've rode my bikes but not this one.
The Harley looks like such a great ride! I’m sure the FJR was a blast on the twisty roads!!
@@Motoramblings it was fun but in all honesty I enjoy riding the Harley on curvy roads more than the fjr. I know that sounds hard to believe and I wouldn't believe it if i hadn't experienced it for myself. The main thing I miss about the fjr is it's speed.
@@motorcycleden the FJR is like a sport bike, with a touring disguise!😂😂😂
Had one from the early 80’s at slow speeds it handled like a loaded wheelbarrow due to limited rake
They are a beast! I do a lot of slow speed practicing just for that reason. Thanks for checking it out!! Be well, Patrick
Yes 😎👍
@@OzBloke 👊👊
Yep love the GoldWing! So easy even a girl can ride it! 😊
😂😂 Thanks Meme! You ride it well too!!!
Ride safe. Ride well. Ride often.
You make a great point! Riding, and riding with at two different things!! Love the Goldwings!! Thanks for watching, and for commenting! Be well, Patrick
Absolutely the best on earth Honda
