    Thanks so much for your video - there were lots with info on replacing the "pink thingy", but yours saved me from causing serious damage to my 2006 Pacifica while removing the console. Rather than repairing the part I actually bought a metal duplicate part on Amazon for less than $20, including overnight shipping. I am definitely NOT a mechanic and I was able to do the entire job myself with no real complications. I appreciate your posting this video - you ARE helping the world!

    This video saved me so much tho. This is still the only video for a 2005 chrysler pacifica gear shift lol. All the other videos are for newer pacificas and other chrysler models

    I look at others video, but yours was the most explicit. Thank you very much I was able to fix my 2006 Chrysler Pacifica with your video. Instead of using any glue I opened a small whole with a drill and inserted a clip. I am a 67 years old lady with arthritis in my hands and I did it alone, but before I started I decided to take my time. I found a place where they sell the part and it is made of metal instead of plastic. It is called Parts Geek and the name of the part is Shift Interlock Latch.

    this was a great step by step video. ours was a 2008 pacifica, but there were similarities enough to use the video, step by step, backwards and forwards until it was done. magnificent. you saved us time, frustration and hundreds of dollars. chrysler -- seriously???????

    Hello, and a big THAN YOU. our pacifica was doing same thing , wouldn't go out of park. After video after video, your video sparked something in my wife. I was at work and i get this text. I have most if it tore apart, sent pics and all. So when i came home i ordered the small part, (which was metal from my local parts store) in like the plastic one from the factory. Long story short, all fixed, shifts fine, so thanks foe sharing the video. Awesome job too

    The part that broke is now available as a aftermarket part from Dorman. It's made out of aluminum and not likely to break, it also comes with a new spring and good instructions. One thing that has to be done is the ign key interlock has to be adjusted in order to remove the key after the shift assembly has been reinstalled. There is a white cover on the key cable that has to be removed then you just push the black outer cable towards the rear until the key may be removed and then while holding the outer cable in that position push the white cable lock back in place. Everything should work as designed after that. The Dorman part number is 924-706 and is readily available at any auto parts store.

    I used your method as well and it saved me time and money. Thanks so much for showing us this video. It's the simple things you discover that you would never think to make a video about. I am so glad you guys did.
    I did the same thing as Decesare6. I drilled a hole as well and stuck a wire loop thru and it works great.
    Thanks again...

    Thank you both for this candid reassemble. I just finished fixing my Pacifica with the same issue. I also modified the little pinkie thing by drilling a 1/16" hole into the plastic and then screwing in this tiny eyehook that I found in a workbench in my garage. Worked like a charm. Again thanks so much and I loved listening to the dialogue between you guys during your repair. All the best, keep loving each other, keep trying to save the world and may you be blessed with beautiful new Bragg additions.

      I am guessing your car was stuck in park. That pink assembly I believe is connected to the brake. It is a safety so you have to have your foot on the brake to take it out of park. The spring I believe is connected to the electric safety. I am having a clicking noise when I put it in park and when I apply the brake in park. I am guessing the spring on that pink piece on my car is going bad. This must be a common problem and if you have to rig it to fix it because the part isn't available that probably means a shop wouldn't fix it. I probably will have to do the same thing in this video and don't want to wait until it gets stuck in park to do it.

    • @automan73s
      @automan73s 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the back pink button is to bypass the brake pedal switch.
      The pink part that breaks also locks in park, allows to remove key out of ignition.

    I studied your video and it was very helpful locating the screws, but you did not need to disassemble the indicator or remove the shift knob. Once the shifter was out I just position the shifter back to the drive position and popped the bottom tabs so that the shifter interlock lever is accessible. I saw this on another video. The lever will slip up off the shaft and the rest is easy. Also I purchase the new part from the dealership for $8.00. Your where right it, was $35.00 at the parts houses.

    Just a FYI, regular petroleum based grease will deteriorate plastic over time, when lubing most plastic parts use a synthetic grease like silicone grease which you can get a small tube from a plumbing supply store or section of a big box store, it is used on the seals and O-rings in faucets etc. Also, Super Lube is a silicone based grease you can get at any auto parts stores and big box stores also but it's a bigger tube or tub and more expensive, also dielectric grease is basically the same thing you can get in small tubes and even in the little packets up by the auto parts stores counter for like one time use.

    I fixed mine earlier today, I watched a few different Videos, yours with wire, anothers with drilling hole & buying new spring.
    I just found a small Key chain ring that fit right over the pink arm, up against were the tab broke off🤙
    When putting all back together, drove myself CRAZY for close to a hour, trying to find out a wire connector that I could not find where it goes😓
    I used to work on Jet Aircraft in the United States Navy, never leave anything hanging, loose, disconnected, etc...
    I see on your car, you have a switch next to the ash tray🤔
    Please, what is that switch for??
    My car does not have that switch, just the wire connector hanging😮😮😮

    Hey I've dropped stiff down there before, most recently my car key. I had to remove the whole middle part and everything underneath it to get my car key. What is the name of the part

  • @garynofishing1

    I wish you had begun showing the part as you 1st discovered it when it was broken. If I don't want to fix it myself, I still need to get it to shift out of park so I can drive it to the dealership and avoid tow charges. Your video showed me how to remove the complete console but now--how do I trigger it to come out of park? Can you advise me?

    • @DBragg2124
      @DBragg2124  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The broken piece is actually what is keeping it from coming out of park. We couldn't figure out a way to get it out of park, so we decided to take it apart, instead of have it towed.

      I took mine apart using your video as MAJOR guidance. On mine --as I guess yours was..--the tiny retaining hook that allows the spring to attach to the pink part was broken off and the spring was detached. I went to the Chrysler dealer and they had the part which costs $18. It was a redesign ---heavier and came with 2 new springs. Apparently, this was a problem because they had 3 in stock and the parts guy knew what I was talking about before I finished my explanation.
      Thank you very much for your video. You've helped me a lot and saved me well over $125 in towing expenses.

    Hi All - at 16:09 in the video there is a cable that connects near the ashtray. Does anyone know what this wire goes to? I have it on my vehicle, but don't see a mating connector.

      On my 2008 Chrysler Pacifica, this cable connects to the 'ESP OFF' button to the left of the ashtray.

    A couple of tips for anyone trying this at home... I didn't have to separate the metal ring from the leather shift knob on the '06 I worked on -- just unscrew the whole knob with the flange still attached. Some of the videos for the similar Chrysler 300 look like you *do* have to remove the flange first, as the rod didn't appear to be threaded. Also, I didn't have to pull as many screws from behind the center console as was done in this video. The two in the console, the two in the cup holders, and the two horizontal ones in the front (and maybe two more near the shifter) were enough, plus the six near the floor that hold the cover on to the sides. Take the shifter into a good work area before unsnapping the top part further, and keep an eye out for the original spring and the broken plastic piece. I never found the spring in mine, but the Dorman 924-706 kit I used came with one.
    Also test the shift lock cable alignment before you get it all put together. It's self adjusting if you lift the white lock snap up, put it in park and snap it back down (or something like that). You probably won't have this problem if you didn't get curious like me and lift it in the first place.
    Depending on your model, you may have an unused three-wire connector branching off the near the left cigarette lighter port (orange/tan, black/white, green/white). This is for some optional feature that I don't have, but you might, so don't sweat it if you didn't remember disconnecting it.
    In addition to this video on this channel, watch this other one as well to help make the job go smoothly. th-cam.com/video/sXwu2BhA-wU/w-d-xo.html

    That pink tab in the rear of the gear selector is a quick release and will free up the selector yours must have been broken. I've used it four times twice on my vehicle with two different gear shift assembly's and twice on vehicles of other pacifica owners..just use a flat head screwdriver or nailfile or pocket knife or any firm flat object you can slide in the space an push that pink tab at the right rear of the gear selector just pop up the square silver frame around the gear selector or what ever color yours is using any of the tools listed even your fingernails it's that easy and the pink tab can be seen. make sure the vehicles on and your foot is pressing down on the brake pedal. it will release. trust me I released mine everyday for nearly a month that way. there are a couple of reasons. why this happens a brake solenoid or a faulty anti theft system namely the car alarm isn't disengageing. But no matter which symptom your vehicle has that pink tab will free your gear shift.

    PS...Is it just mostly Chrysler brand like 300 and Pacifica because heard that these two been having issue with the stick shift sticking in Park. Tow truck operator had to manually release the cable and switch the plastic lever near engine to get to neutral so he can tow it.

    • @ultimobigtruck
      @ultimobigtruck 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it seems that Chrysler really dropped the ball with the 300 and Pacifica.

      Yes. LOL. You have to remove the stuff connected to the back pink button and you are good to go. Warning: You don't have to have your foot on the break any more to switch it out of Park so be careful.
