Samsonov has the cleanest serve. The ball is always in full view, and his toss is so straight up and down.
his serves looks almost choreographed. really beautiful
His serves have always been lame.He experimented with hook serves,obstructed serves,reverse serves,never had much success .

Lately Vladi had a worse time. But I never can say stop playing any player. This is the player's decision. Moreover Vladi is one of my favorite players if not favorite:)His block is legendary as Waldner's block . And cute bh. Greetings from Poland:)

True living legend really... Hang out with generations of top Chinese players and beat some of them occasionally. never lost without putting up a good fight. Consider the environment he trains in and be this good, its really amazing.

@@paysage57 bottom line, not China. Not even Germany or Japan (at least primarily I guess) You see various players try to become better by playing in Chinese leagues, to no avail, Samsonov never did, but stay super competitive his entire career. Mad respect.
@@cllllllllll I think he trained in Germany for the most part of his career but his playing style is not German at all as he plays with great finesse.The fall of the Ussr didn't help him with his career,methinks.I don't think training in China would have benefited him much as he was too timid by nature to play the extra aggressive style of the Chinese.He is very conservative in his game,he hasn't even adopted the index- thumb serve grip.

Vladi playing amazing. Poor LGY, it's how I feel like all the time playing against the old guys at the club. I'm running all over the place hitting as hard as I can, and these old guys are just standing there moving in slow motion, and yes, they are winning.
To be honest, I have never seen anything else from LGY. His playstyle is one-dimensional and boring for me. One or two pushes and then full-power topspin attacks. Most old-school guys like waldner, persson, schlager, primorac could deal with him because they haver superior tactical knowledge opposed to hitting everything he can. That been said, ML, FZD and XX are different, they could beat fairly anyone from the past.
@@martonratko1701 Yeap,he is very one dimensional.Just a fast backhand loop-block and a fast stiff forehand with some sidespin.Away from the table he is utter crap and can't change the rhythm of the game using slower shots.The more one dimensional Chinese players become the more vulnerable they would be against Europeans.
Dick N. Ormous I hope so. Still, the younger European players stand no chance with their Chinese counterparts. We have what, 4-5 matches a year? And Its mostly veterans who do the work. Maybe its just me but there seems to be a cloning pattern when it comes to younger generations in China. Starting with Ma Wenge->Kong Linghui->Wang Liqin->Ma Long/ZJK->FZD->Liang JK/Ma Lin->Wang Hao->XX. The most tangible cloning IMO is Chen Qi and Lin Gaoyuan. Check out the similarity of strokes and movement, its scary. Same thing with Oh Sang Eun and Jeong Youngsik. Its only natural that they aim for perfection, but where is the originality and true talent showing then? This seems to me as the key issue on why so many people hate the Chinese, i.e. the uniformization of the sport. Looking forward to your reply,

He's known in China as the Tai Chi Master, the one and only, Vladi Samsonov!
yes, we had this perception that players of his body size would lose more touch of the ball. Vladi is not fast in terms of swinging due to his long arm but he perfected his technique to not use excessive swing that much and he has exceptional force control and wrist control, wich gives him top-notch placement, pase, and spin control and variation. During his prime every ball he returned takes some thought to counter, and it is very difficult to break his defence, and people associated his play style with tai chi.

This made my day. Other players should take a strategy lesson from him on how to play against the fast Chinese. His push return on serves is more effective than many of the banana flick crazy new gen players!
Vladi still got it! :) Almost double his age. Great win for him and awesome to see he can still compete and win at the highest levels even with all the changes throughout the years, speed glue, no speed glue, big ball, even bigger poly ball...

Just unbelievable! The Vladi with 40+ years beats a machine. This kid hits so hard and fast and has everything to be a world champion and Vlad beats him...unbelievable
Владимир, по тактике переиграл . Из средней зоны несколько серий. И больше коротко под право скидывал, где Лин не успевал. Такое ощущение, Самсонов смотрит на игру с верней камеры и быстрее анализирует игру, хотя скорости и мощи не такие как и Лина.
Согласна полностью. Он именно разигрывал свою игру, зная куда и как сиграть.невероятный талант

Несколько причин победы Самсонова:
1. Влад, видимо, набрал форму и играет быстрее, чем, скажем, с Харимото в прошлый раз, а значит меньше отходит в среднюю/дальную зоны и имеет больше возможностей выиграть очко.
2. У него явно улучшилась игра справа из средней/ближней зон и он выиграл несколько важных переходных очков справа из ближней зоны, чего Лин, специально играющий Владу направо, не ожидал.
3. Лин сыграл слабее, чем обычно, допускал много невынужденных ошибок на своих мячах, может, не его день, а может, недооценил "ветерана":), а включить "3ю скорость" в решающей партии, как умел олимпийский чемпион перовик Ма Лин и умеет (когда в форме) Ма Лонг, в силу молодости и недостатка опыта не сумел.
4. Ну и, last but not list, если Влад в предверии Олимпиады ещë прибавит если не в скорости, то в стабильности, то он, пожалуй, может огорчить в китайской сборной не Только Лина ... .

Я уже начал думать, что Самсонов "всё", но он, видимо, сознательно "сделал паузу", чтобы максимально восстановиться и набрать форму к олимпиаде. Будем верить в лучшее!

Влад всегда старается сыграть неудобно для соперника, но всë же Лин делал больше своих ошибок чем обычно делает даже на простых мячах.
