As a nurse, this is so problematic in every way. This would never happen in a hospital setting. If there was a disagreement in the plan of care for a patient, particularly a child, there would be multiple discussions happening with different providers. If the parents kept objecting to the treatments offered, the Ethics Committee would be brought in if the child’s life was in potential harm from not receiving the recommended treatment. No doctor or nurse would ever lock themselves in a patient room and give a treatment that was outright refused by the parents. It’s crazy that all she got was a slap on the wrist, in the real world, even if she was right, could still be terminated and possibly arrested.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but from what it was shown in the clip I understand the reaction of the parents... they were already there for hours, tests were done and were inconclusive and the child had already received antibiotics and she wanted to give him more medication, the parents were already afraid for their son and the doctor didn't have a confirmed diagnosis... YES, they overeact, but so did she, if just another doctor (that they hadn't lost confidence) came and talk to them calmly and explain the situation, things would be fine, but given her frustrations about her medical ability being questioned by Will, the moment the father asked for her supervisor, she went crazy and the situation went downhill 🤨

While she was convincing about pneumonia being fatal in children, she didn't say or have anything to convince them that the kid HAD it to begin with. As a general rule, a doctor can act without the consent of the parent or guardian to save life or prevent deterioration in a child's condition." This is where she should have called cps before this happenned when the parents were agitated and showing signs of taking their child before he improved. Antibiotic take up to 24 hours or longer to visibly show signs of taking effect. An emergency dept visit here can easily take 6 hours just to be seen and then another 6 for tests, x rays etc to be done and that is all before treatment. Antibiotics wont harm you unless you are allergic to them. If i was a parent and my kid was sick i would be raising bloody murder for them to try a different antibiotic as some antibiotics are for specific infections whilst others are more generalised. Also to note sometimes infections are viral and not bacterial so antibiotics dont work and anti virals arent perscribed normally - at least in my country.

This is portraying a professional failing on so many fronts and the fact that there are so many people saying that the parents were wrong is terrifying. The doctor failed in instilling confidence in her, she insulted them, and then went against her own words. She made them not trust her and now she's probably scared them out of trusting doctors in the future. All the incredibly judgemental people declaring that if you don't listen to a doctor 110% of the time then you should have your kids taken away are just sick. My sister is a Mayo educated PA, she always says to never assume your doctor is a god or an imbecile. I know this is a TV show, I'm more disturbed with the response. Guess how you don't act when you want people to trust you as a professional, you don't act like this
