    Watched this all the way through. Great work. I noted, with interest, that you pointed out that in other projects you’d light your subjects more dramatically, presumably with short lifting, shooting into the shadow side of the face, but I think you’re right, for beauty work, happy, advertising work, soft, smooth, straight on lighting does tend to look better. Overall this is looking terrific. Great job. Btw, I’m from the UK, but my wife is Romanian (from Brașov).

    The first thing I was thinking when seeing the commercial is a fight with the client lol
    "I want everything front lit! lots of light! yellow light, yeaaah, why is there a shadow???"
    - I want to give some depth, it looks better and more profess...
    "It looks bad! It's christmas, put lights on face!!!
    - But it looks flat and...
    "WHO IS PAYING HERE????"
    - sorry, front lighting it is!
    we all know the struggle lol but hey client is king.

    Wonderful images and lighting. I really like the way you create this content. Your storytelling is also very pleasing. No exaggerated expressions to be popular or to attract attention. You attract attention by the quality of your videos and content and by explaining in such detail how you work. I subscribed, also because the Sony FX6 is my favorite camera. but I'm still using the A7III.

    Really good behind the scenes. Do you also have someone to organize/direct/communicate with people on the set? Usually if there is more people on set, i have so much difficulty in communicating with people while i also have to focus on my gear and shots.

  • @KenFlanagan

    I’m sure its just an oversight but i think its “Christmas”? I really do appreciate the time and effort that goes into making any bts especially on client work but it would really help if you want to break down your process for others to do so a little more “professionally” (aka Lewis Potts or Robert Machado). A little less “beautiful” and “amazing” and a little more how you feel that you over came the challenges of the shoot would be great. Not just what lights you used but why. Power colour temp metering etc?? For instance Im not sure why you wouldn’t have used bigger light sources and created some flagging but again maybe there were time constraints or issues with blocking and hearing your reasoning would have been very interesting. It’s always hard to be self critical on client pieces especially when you want to protect the positivity for the client relationship that you have on the job so I think being more objectively technical would be a great help and allow you to not have to big up the job with too many “amazings and beautifuls”. Positivity is fantastic but if the idea of Bts is to share learning experience then it could help to focus on the kinds of problem solving that every shoot challenges us with. I totally appreciate that English may not be your first language but it would be great to know for example “what” was so amazing to you about the location. Colour palette, depth and space, natural light of lack of it, access??? More practical detail would be great. For the reason I stated above, I don’t think that it’s right to be too critical of the spot because of that client relationship. Technically I would question whether an fx6 is really the best camera for such a job but if it’s about auto focus then in such a scenario auto focus with object tracking might have made more sense. Of course if you own the camera then that is a consideration. Your choice not to use a gimbal if you wanted some movement is interesting and again it would be interesting to know why you went hand held throughout. Again it would be interesting to know if the job was storyboarded? You mentioned your wireless system but it looked like the client was in the film and you were looking at playback on camera. No big deal but for many watching maybe the step up to client work and client management on set is a learning experience in itself. Did you have a production team beyond hair and make up and who were they? How did you all work as a team?? Also would be great to be more specific about how you approach beauty work as you began to explain when using “beauty lighting” Did you use filtration on the lens. Did you use power windows and vignettes in the grade or face object retouching?? All these things would be great to hear in more detail. There’s always so much to unpack from a job but thank you for all your effort and all the very best for the new year.

    Great content Alexandru! With being handheld are you getting much shake? Interested to know, or are you only doing small movements in that setup? - I'd have perhaps been inclined to shoot with a Gimbal and/or Easyrig

  • @JulesFredericNerestant
    @JulesFredericNerestant 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think my main issue with your setup in general is the shooting of jewellery in such a textured and glamorous space and shooting it at f1.2. Shallow DoF in my mind does both beauty and product image making a disservice, especially in such a textured shooting location. Also, seems like there's a crumb on the product shot surface. But all the beats are there and the warm family feeling comes through, so well done ✅

    Just wanted ask some doubts here...
    You were the director or the client liet you to shoot your own ideas ?

    Was the commercial fully edited by you or by client's editor ?
    ANy other work you have done without mentioning it here ?

    • @AlexDon
      @AlexDon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, no problem, I will answer them in order:
      I was the director but the client had sent me the script first.
      I made a simple storyboard before shooting so we can be organised.
      The commercial was fully edited by me and also color graded.
      Other than that that's pretty much it.
