I'm from Germany and we really like Sauerkraut. The taste of sauerkraut is coming from the fermitation but I never saw it done this way. Normally we use huge containers and some ingredients and then we leave it alone until it's ripe.
Then you can usually eat it without having to be afraid that you'll poisoning yourself. On the other hand, we have pretty strict safety standards to make sure that no other microbial life can find a way into the product that could make people sick or even kill them.
I understand that certain regions worldwide have special dishes that they make their own way. But at least, Europeans have very strict safety laws to make sure that people didn't get sick or even die after the consumption of said dishes. We also have food that is forbidden by law to leave the border of the country, because the other EU countries didn't see these food products as save for consumption. And the people know usually what dishes these are and wouldn't even try them if they would get it for free. All I know is that those dishes are part of their culture and that's the only reason they are still allowed in the countries they're coming from.
There is a country in Scandinavia where they let fish (literally) rot for a few years in containers that are buried a few years to avoid that air comes in from the outside. It stinks very bad and most people say it tastes like it smells.
A second example would be the mugged cheese from an Italian island. This cheese is full of muggeds and it is also strictly forbidden to bring it over any European border. These are just two very well known examples and you could find a lot more if you would just Google it.
Things that are disgusting to us, can be delicious for other people who were growing up with them.
But it's important not to cut corners, put chemicals in that didn't belong there and be as hygienic as possible if you're working with that kind of food.

I recall back then when there were more Chinese Mainland tourists in my country, they used to flock grocery stores to buy milk, bananas, regular groceries. Basically someone with 2 brain cells looked at melamine and said 'that has protien' and just did it. There was a history beyond it where the dairy people were trying to water down their milk but the company decided to change up how they inspect it. So the cheaters began changing as well.

    • @etuanno
      @etuanno 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

As far as I know this is not quite how it worked.
They used milk, that was watered down and laced with melamine in order to increase the measured protein content and hide the fact that they watered it down.
This milk was then used to produce baby formula.

I lived in China for around 4 years. (2013-2017)
The ‘gutter oil’ was shockingly a very normal undertaking.
Coming home from bars late at night, we often saw the workers cleaning the solidified oil & waste from the drains and grease traps. Originally, we assumed that they were simply workers cleaning the drains.
I was later shocked to find out that the waste was actually sold, boiled down to remove the garbage & re-bottled and sold back to the same restaurants (90% cheaper) for them to save money.
    Absolutely insane!
Moving from the Philippines to China saw My cholesterol increase by x5 in a 12 month period due to this recycled oil being used that we were unaware of.
PS: some operators of smaller McDonalds and KFC branches were also using this oil.

China is the leading manufacturer, user and exporter of DDT, an insecticide that was banned in most of the world in the 50's and 60's due to it's toxicity and environmental impacts. They also still manufacture and use organophosphates which were banned in much of the world in the 90's and early 2000's. Pretty much any chemical that was banned for use on crops is still permitted in China.

Ugh. DDT was banned because of a book called Silent Spring, and it's been recently agreed that the woman was an alarmist, and overall just wrong.
We can use DDT in smaller amounts, still get the same effect, and it safe for birds.
You know, when they banned DDT, India saw a huge increase in malaria and deaths from it.
      It's still ongoing there.
It's been almost eradicated from the USA, thanks to the use of DDT years ago.
Also bed bugs are back with a vengeance and immune to most everything, but I imagine the current populations would not be immune to DDT. It's been too long and they likely lost the immunity in favor of others they need.
      Tldr bring back DDT.

They're not used as much as they _were,_ and restrictions have tightened to a degree, but they are still regularly and widely used to this day.

Yeah umm, I am Australian and we know a lot about farming and animals and such, and I am afraid the colour of the egg yolk doesn't determine much. Free range chickens do tend to have a more orange yolk, however during different seasons their yolk also can be yellow, it just depends what they are commonly eating, it's all about simply the pigments within the food that are eaten.
A very light weak colour is a result of primarily just eating wheat, which doesn't have much pigment in it. If the chicken eats a lot of corn the yolk will be a bright and strong yellow, and if the chicken is eating all sorts of things that are green instead, the yolks often are more orange as the green stuff usually have a lot of this pigment (if you minus off the masking green which is merely chlorophyll obviously).
That's really all that it's about. The actual nutritional value is almost the same across all the types, the colour doesn't determine that.
BTW I am not saying eggs from China are trustworthy, regardless of yolk colour it is likely the chickens are eating some pretty nasty stuff, especially the free range ones in China may be eating some very nasty pollutants in the environment. I remember a video in China where a chicken was eating plastic out of a shallow puddle of oil, so clearly the idea of free range isn't good if the environment is contaminated, lol.
Quite frankly I wouldn't trust anything from China, but especially I wouldn't trust food.

As a person who was raised in the American suburbs during America's golden period (after World War 2 to the 1980s), #6 is actually one of the least serious... Human made made chemical concoctions are generally extremely DEADLY compared to normal food.
China needs to have chemistry lab courses in primary schools...when you see how dangerous and deadly chemicals are, (most of them required extremely careful handling with protective gloves and glasses, as even tiny amounts spilled onto your skin could cause SERIOUS permanent damage...and stories in school of how kids who drank common house cleaning liquids kut of curiosity became so ill they had to immediately go to hospital emergency were many) when most people experience for themselves how deadly most human made chemicals mixtures are, these types of problems will probably drastically decrease.
