Sorry to hear this.. have you increased how much you are working recently. Oftentimes, shin pain can be a repetitive use injury, example going up and down ladders constantly throughout the day. I recommend seeing if you can modify your work... less up and down on ladders, padding on shin, if the pain persists definitely recommend consulting with your doctor and possibly physical therapy.
Thanks for confirming in my mind what I suspected feel bone on bone pain after walking an hr each day now 12 weeks post TKR. I think still early days & it's to be expected after all drilling hammering sawing Orthopaedic Surgeon had to do 😊 Time persevering exercising pacing self hopeful future bright 🤞 very happy had done game changer for me as 0 else answer. Goal is to do marthon walking love it just need to get stronger. Thanks for videos appreciate advice.
You're on the right track! It's completely normal to experience bone pain and challenges with mobility in the early months post TKR. Your determination to keep exercising, pacing yourself, and staying positive is all important. Best wishes with your continued recovery!
TKR 3 1/2 months ago, very painful. Entire time. Manipulation 1 month ago. Little more range from 90 to 110. Painful every night. Still swelling in Quad. Still not sleeping more than 3 to 4 hours max. Rehab 3 times a week. Bone pain and tendons behind very sore after PT. Tough painful surgery. Help
Sorry to hear about your continued pain. Sometimes our bodies just do not respond well to surgery and you may have a heightened pain and swelling response to the surgery... Be sure to keep yourself and your knee moving most days, even if it is just a little, such as walking. This is how your nervous system and the soft tissue around your knee joint will adapt and gain durability to develop more activity tolerance and less pain. I may also consider aquatic therapy and potentially using a TENS unit... ask your doctor / physical therapist about these possible options.
Hard to determine without knowing more... It could be chronic pain or there may be something going on that requires greater medical intervention such as a fracture or compromise to the prosthetic. I would recommend consulting with an orthopedist and getting some x-rays as a good place to start.
Yes it is archaic, barbaric and very, very painful. When only the cartilage needs replacement. Europe has a great idea of only replacing cartilage. US should try it!
Thank you for your comment. It will be interesting to see if this technique of only replacing the cartilage is effective and leads to improved outcomes.
This may be normal pain post-surgery or may be sign of a more serious concern. I can't provide further advice without a more thorough assessment and history taking, but I definitely recommend continued followup with physical therapist and doctor following surgery. Thanks for watching!
