    What I love the most is that she won best new artist but she sounds so timeless. That does NOT happen often. I'm so glad there's someone like her representing her generation right now.

    Every Grammy’s I find someone new to listen. I love her instantly. Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald comes to mind. Love it!

      I've been following her, and always heard tones of Ella and Sarah, but I heard more inflections of Nancy from her than I've ever heard in this performance. What a treat. ❤

    My 15 yr old daughter's favorite artist, I took her to see her a few weeks ago. My daughter spent the whole show crying. Ms. Joy is the Real Deal.

    I hadn't heard of her until the Grammys. Then I searched for her on Spotify, listened to her music, and goodness! She is now my favorite new artist. Absolutely great! I believe Ella, Sarah, Billie and other great jazz songstresses would be proud.

    Shes my age, 23 years old. I cant believe it, she sounds so regal, so seasoned, so rich! Shes such a breath of fresh air for this generation because i feel like we are force fed one version of music artistry these days when there is so much out in the world!!!

      I've literally never seen anyone do that at the Grammys, that was awesome. Aside from doing that making a giant room feel like a small club, acnowledging the people on stage with her and giving them equal recognition was just such a lovely human touch that people just don't do. Made me love and respect her even more!

      She hasn't been around that long. In another interview, I think she said she's only been doing jazz for like 5 years. Then, she went to school to study it. Now, she's got a Grammy.

    I love Jaron's commentary, enthusiasm, and passion for great singers. Like him, I am blown away at the vocal excellence of Samara Joy. I'm so thrilled she won Best New Artist and also Best Vocal Jazz Album. I too watched the Grammys to see if Samara Joy would win, and I am thrilled for her 2 Grammy nominations and wins.     Thanks for breaking down the vocal ranges and pitch. Had very similiar sentiments hearing and seeing Samara Joy name call for Best New Artist. I jumped up from my chair with joy, then tears of joy started streaming down my face. This is music, this is skills, this is gift this young lady executed to the world. ❤️

    I'm so spoil on Rachelle Farell who to me is the greatest versatile vocal genius of all time. Like nobody is better than that mother queen Rachelle. So everyone else after her especially jazz singers pales in comparison. With that being said I'm always happy to see real singers who represent black magic celebrated.     Have been following Samara for almost two years now and rushed to see her in Paris late last year. She’s every bit the new standard bearer for this music. Her artistry is breathless, and one hopes that she lights up this generation who’s bereft of quality like her and reminds them where the bar in music really sits.     I immediately liked her from the sample they played of her song, along with the other nominees before the winner was announced! There was something special about her voice. I quickly went to Spotify to hear more of her beautiful music.
    Also, I loved how you broke her song down and explained the different textures of her voice. I better understand, as you mentioned, how intelligent she is with how she sings her songs.

    As soon as I saw this performance, I immediately thought about you Jaron. You read my mind. Anyway, it's so refreshing to see a young lady with class and grace garner mainstream success. I can tell she studied all of the jazz divas, but she reminds me of Sarah Vaughan the most, based on her tone.

    OMG I cried and screamed when she won. I too have been following her since late 2019 and I am just in awe. She is my best friend in my head! I love her. Soooo excited for her future and what she will do for the industry. She is not only gonna do great things for jazz but for all music genres. She is legendary already!

    Yes!!! I cried too. We saw Samara Joy live at a Jazz Fest in Albany, NY (September 2022). My husband and I absolutely enjoyed this talented young woman. She was amazing.
