  • Welcome to my new vlog series: my SUMMER WRITING SPRINT. I'm aiming to write 2x everyday in order to finish the dissertation this summer. As always, I strive for sustainability and balance in my writing process, and it is just as important for me to show you how I rest as it is for me to show you how I write.

I never used to track my writing progress other than "that felt productive" or "wow that was a lot of staring at a screen and not typing" but in the last 6 days, I have written over 4,900 words on a review, starting at 0 last Friday. I'm taking it as a really good sign that I am going in the correct direction after struggling to write this review for almost a year. Once I knew the direction I wanted to take it and felt good about it (thanks mentor that is not my advisor for that help), it came so easily!

so much of the writing process involves thinking, I think ppl who are not writers or in academia don't understand that. oh and editing!
keep going, you're making good progress 😊

I am also a PhD student and i loveeee these type of vids. Your research seems so interesting! Have you read what a body can do by Ben Spatz? He’s a performance studies scholar and i feel like it would be so beneficial for the framing of your embodiment analysis! Best towards your diss!

not to give you something more intense to dive into but I think the work of Gregory Ulmer on Electracy would really help to talk about the rhetoric of the internet and how it is different than orality and literacy, which he argues creates new modes of ontology (hyper-awareness?) and epistemology. Just a thought for you! Absolutely love your vlogs and miss IUB.

okay so funny story I actually had a section in my last vlog where I talked about ulmer and I scrapped it in the editing process bc ulmer is sooo niche (and a little wild!) so that’s funny to see his name pop up in the comments here. I’ve read quite a bit of his work and I don’t directly cite him but he has informed quite a bit of my early thinking!
