One of my favourite albums of last year, fantastic song and reaction!

Here in 2021, and I would argue this was one of, if not THE, best releases of the last decade.
These are prog metal, atleast this album is. Cuz their last albums were basically full on tech death metal. Well the first album was full tech death metal, and then the second album was transforming for into prog, and now this album is like technical prog metal. These guys are so diverse though and haven't heard a bad song from them yet

I’ll echo other comments and say this is from one of the best albums from 2018. Only surpassed (for me) by Zeal & Ardor.

Never clicked to a notification so fast :D Omg, these guys are amazing, saw them live last year in December while they were touring Europe. Revocation, Rivers of Nihil, Archspire and Soreption, what a musical treat it was
Side note - they are a lot heavier than that, I mean this may be their lightest song thus far. But yeah these guys are like progressive/death. You should check out more of these guys, cuz they are amazing, you won't be disappointed.

@@METALBIRB Glad to hear that. My favourite song from the album is Hollow. Just amazing. Remember reading the lyrics and for some reason I teared up. And I'd never cried to a song up until this point.

Where Owls Know My Name, the album, is easily my favorite album from last year, the Silver Scream is at the top aswell, and I can't really pick between them, but the album is so rich with meaning, and the instrumentation is perfect. It flows so well. A truly epic, experience of a record.
OCEANS ATE ALASKA - ESCAPIST
Archspire, Beyond Creation and Obscura two are Canadian (Obscura is from germany) and all three are the 3 big of tech death of today. That song was more progressive extreme metal. they normally are a tech death band and a hot newcomer their last Album was great and really hit the scene ... that was the ballad out of it ^^ .

"the ocean" is a really awesome progressive band aswell. should check it out. Good songs to start with would be "Firmament" or "Nascent" I guess.

Officially they are a Technical Death Metal band, but I totally get what you mean about the Progressive elements here! This was one of my top 20 albums of last year, for sure!
Don't forget to react to Heilung sometime man! Honestly, any song from Lifa (live album recorded at Castlefest I believe) will do, though today I'm going to suggest the song Othan since they just released a studio version of it for their upcoming record. I know, you already said you wrote them down... just being persistent! Just make sure whichever song you react to, do the live version!

This album was high on my list from last year. Only topped by Inferi's Revenant. Last year was good for death metal though. Speaking of Inferi, they just came out with a drum playthrough of 'A Beckoning Thrall' that was pretty fun. Even if you don't record a reaction to it, worth checking out.

Good choice, really good and interesting band. First time you hear Rivers of Nihil when the sax hits you're like "WTF is that a saxophone?", 10 secs later "Yeah that is a saxophone in a metal song, what the shit", 30 seconds later "Holy shit the sax works and I fucken love it" :D
Based on your comments you're so ready for Troldhaugen dude. "BMX Terminator" or "Viva Loa Vegas" (or if you want trippy go for "I Ordered A Taxi Driver Not A Taxidermy"). Great introductions although just like Twenty-One Pilots every song is very different from each other, rarely even close to the same genre.
You really need to get into Archspire if you're not already a fan (fantastic canadian tech death so hometown boys for you) as well. My two fav bands with Ne Obliviscaris coming in a close third :)

They are all entertaining to watch live and talented as hell. The ONLY downside to their live shows is their touring saxophonist - he does the clean vocals and has no sense of pitch in every performance and realllly taints the songs for me. Otherwise their energy and talent is amazing. That bassit has lightning fingers on many songs! Love em
