Perhaps no player has had such a sudden and unexpected impact at a team like Michu had at Swansea.
A bargain from Spain that Sir Alex Ferguson had “never really heard of” lit up the Premier League in his only full season in South Wales.
But how did Swansea find him? And what happened to him after that season?
Seb Stafford-Bloor writes, Henry Cooke illustrates.

It has always bothered me that people call him a one season wonder when he absolutely wasn’t. That right ankle ruined his career, and even in his second season (with no consistent game time due to injuries) he was still absolutely outstanding when he was on the pitch.
The reason his goal return was lower is because we had just signed Bony, who was scoring goals left, right and centre. This meant Michu had to drop back into a supporting role rather than a scoring one. That second season, he was still unplayable on so many occasions. His link up play between the likes of Britton, Ki, Cañas etc. and Bony upfront was incredible to watch.
He was top, top class for 2 seasons and then the right ankle injuries ended his career. Far from a one season wonder.

Im a Liverpool fan but that Michael Laudrup Swansea was my 2nd favorite team to watch, they were really exciting I must admit. They were alll like underrated players and manager playing in one team

I hadn’t become a football fan yet. I would watch a football match when I had nothing to do. And Michu was having his wonder season. I started thinking if I had to pick a team should I pick Swansea. If Michu could continue playing like that I would definitely become a Swansea fan.

Michu was a one-season wonder and became a cult-phenomenon. Like that band that makes a solid debut album and vanishes. You guys were left wondering and he become a fantasy boy. The same could've happened with Liverpool's Cissé if he decided to stop playing after season 2004-2005, a season he broke his leg and then won the Champions League. We all know Cissé's next seasons were just good. Michu was, above it all, entertaining. Just like Cissé, Javier Saviola or late Michael Owen.

I can never forget this magical player who for a shock to many isn't a striker but a perfect cog to fill in any position in the front line including cam position that felt natural to , won't like to jinx it but Joel piroe has all the similar quality to him

As an American of Welsh decent, Swansea’s promotion to the EPL is what brought me into the game as a fan. Michu is and probably always will be my favorite player. What a lovely video, and a fitting tribute to his career.

Michu was something to see truly.. not a Swansea fan but remember that season when he blew off, he wasn't the typical forward that you'd see in the Prem, he wasn't very fast but technically skillful and amazing to watch.
