When Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG for a world transfer record, of €222m it would change the footballing transfer market forever. Whilst PSG now had Neymar, Barcelona were the main beneficiaries with a huge amount of cash now burning a hole in their bank account.
And they set out to spend it all. This is the story of the four players Barcelona spent the Neymar money on.

The deal not only broke the transfer window but broke Barcelona completely. Neymar's transfers to PSG changed how world class players and average players are valued forever and at the same time exposed how poorly Barcelona were ran under Bartomeu.

    • @-Big_Mo-
      @-Big_Mo- ปีที่แล้ว +117

Thing is, Barca wasn't terribly run before Neymar so I don't they were "exposed" per se. Rakitic, Umtiti, and Suarez were obviously excellent signings that other clubs would be jealous of. I think Neymar just ended up destroying years of planning so they panicked trying to come up with a new direction. So not only did they need to adjust to the broken transfer market, they had to replace an area of the pitch they thought would be stable for at least a few years. That also took attention away from finding successors for players like Iniesta, Pique, Busquets, and Messi. The Coutinho obsession was also bad though

I feel like the person who wrote this script, or at least the part about Paulinho, didn't actually watch him play for Barça in the one season he was there. Because in this video he is almost not talked about and what is said about him kind of paints him like a disappointment when in fact he wasn't. Paulinho was a positive surprise. He did very well in the role he was assigend to, including scoring some important goals and he generally played far better for Barça than he did for Spurs. On top of that he was even sold for a profit (as mentioned in the video). So he definitely wasn't a disappointment or failure in his time at Barça.

Shame we lost Neymar regardless of what people say.
During the time Messi got injured, both him & Luis Suarez stepped up and still gave us hope of having a team that could win UCL w/o having to be to reliant on Messi.
That’s one of the problems Barca has had the best past decade being to reliant on one player & I remember Ney carry us in the league competing against Real Madrid.
Now we’re leading the league but we don’t have a team capable of winning UCL even if Messi came back. We need to wait a season or two since most of our current players are still young & inexperienced to compete against teams like Bayern & City.

Dembele is super overrated even the past year being his best year. That’s why no accepted the salary he wanted & had to accept a lower salary than initially offered.
Let’s be real, yes Barca are first place currently but not because we have this amazing squad that can compete w/ the big boys, simply Tebas has weakened the league & that’s why we have no one in UCL other than Real Madrid. 3rd / 4th place teams are closer to relegation zone than 1st place. The first three are obvious- expensive, exciting, young attacking players brought in to replace Neymar’s ouput. And the financial fallout of replacing him sort of paved the way for Messi’s transfer as well, coz it is clear that Messi had to leave for financial reasons and not footballing reasons.

2/ Dembele is not a polarising figure anymore, he's roundly loved and lauded as one of the best in the world (in fact, Barca people can be a bit exaggerated in how good he is, some will say he's more talented than Mbappe etc).

Neymar exposed Barcelona when he left.
Barca always claimed to be “more than a club” and boasted about valuing their academy players. Yet instead of investing their money into Barcelona future and academy.. they blew every dime on any big name signing they could get. All while selling off their academy players for pennies. Barca fans blame it on the Bartmoeu; however, they celebrated every new signing and claimed they would win the UCL. All the spending ultimately blew up in Barcelona’s face. They dug themselves into such a hole that they could no longer afford to keep Lionel Messi (their prized possession). They were left with no money whatsoever. They couldn’t afford to sign anybody so they went back to using their academy players for a single season. It was actually nice to see. Until the season ended… when they ultimately sold half of their clubs rights away to sign another haul of big names to replace their academy players. A big gamble for a club with already no money. A gamble that would see them exit the UCL two years in a row at the group stage. Leading them to crash out the Europa League back to back seasons.
An absolute joke of a club. They fell apart when Neymar left. Meanwhile Neymar would lead PSG to its first ever UCL final. Something never seen before.

But he was terrible at the thing all barca midflelders NEED to excel in: passing. I remember him failing to make a 5 yard pass with minimal pressure multiple times. If you're a barca midfielder and can't pass the ball and escape the press, let alone have good vision, you know you're not there to stay. However, he did add a different dimension to the game (like Vidal did a season later) for which he could've been kept around as a squad rotation player.
