WOW! Improvised on the spot, and what a performance by both of them. Toots plays the crap out of the tune to the point of brilliance ,and Peggy sings it straight and never misses a beat or key. Sheer class
It's gems like this that make youtube a wonderful place to be. Thanks Gareth. I've never seen Peggy Lee so relaxed and Toots Thieleman to boot...Oh yeah! Lou
Ah, I miss you Toots Thielemans!!! You were the best Chromatic Harmonica performer ever... I'm so glad I met you in the l980's in Seattle... Velva Hot Lips who also plays the Chromatic Harmonica... Thank you Peggy Lee....
Toots was full of fire and fun, impressively relaxed as he joyously shreds in his bebop lines comparably as great in his genre as Hendrix doing guitar, Piazolla making Tangos, Sousa marching or anyone doing the work and earning the rewards. Respect, fame, maybe some fortune, but THE man to jam with on Jazz 'Harp.' Can someone dump The View and get some live jazz back on a regularly scheduled TV show again? Yeah, s'what I thought.
Hi , Apologies to you and previous commenter. I recorded this clip with a good overlap and beginning and end ...but despite uploading it several times , it cut short on every attempt . I had to give up in the end!
in response to an earlier post, Stevie Wonder was indeed influenced by Toots (as anyone who has heard "The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie" and "Eivets Rednow" can attest). There is also a clip elsewhere on you tube where Stevie joins Toots on "Bluestte" which plays as friends having fun as opposed to one upmanship by rivals.

This is the western world's musical heritage: pure talent without the million decibels.

He's a cat from all the way back! The harmonica is one of those instruments that you never really hear all the time, but just once is all it takes!
Fantastic!Love their instant harmony in an apparently funny but very hard improvisation. Two Legends
RIP.... Thank u for your music
The man who played the "Sesame Street" tune and the woman who sang in the movie "Lady and the Tramp" - a fine pairing indeed :)

As of March 12, 2014.
Tremendous interplay between two outstanding musicians. Wonder if Stevie Wonder was influenced just a little bit by Toots?
LOVE IT!
i'm not offended..i'm totally up for it...i cant think of greater fun.

Great performance. One mistake, Benjamin Franklin invented the Harmonia, not the Harmonica.
You mean the Armonica?

Always exceptional, Toots
