I'm of German descent. I learned about the Holocaust in school. It didn't make me feel bad about myself. It opened my eyes to the truth. Teaching kids lies about our history makes our country weaker and destined to repeat our mistakes over and over.

The one thing I am proud of is that Germany and France and England talk about their history and what they did wrong and how they want to prevent atrocities of the past from interfering with the future. America and other places on this side of the prime meridian refuse to do such things and constantly try to cover up what was done wrong in the past

"Let's just move on." Should be this country's national catch phrase. While many think it implies resilience, it really embodies denial. The same people that say "get over it" are the same who want to outlaw teaching about slavery, Native American genocide, jim crow, the Holocaust, the civil rights movement. They want to paint this country as a promised land and ignore the ugliness. What they fail to understand is that the ugliness is how this nation became better. You learn from your mistakes and moral failings. This nation's consciousness has to acknowledge its dark past. Otherwise we cannot move forward.

The idea of admonishing a group of people who are STILL being abused for speaking out against their abusers, referring to laws that are supposed to protect them and invoking their rights as American citizens, is crazy to me. It's natural for abusers to feel shame for their behavior or anger for being called out. This doesn't mean the abused are wrong. Correct the behaviors of the terrorists not their victims.

I got nothing wrong with black people being conservative. I have a problem with black people being conservative and ignoring the obvious problems associated with the GOP. Black people who are Democratic or Independent _love_ to point out the problems with the liberal movement _constantly._ But black conservatives rarely point out the _GLARING_ problems on the other side. They just lap up whatever they are given.
If black conservatives really wanted to have a say in the GOP they'd call out the obvious racial and social-economic problems that the GOP fosters. Instead they just _say_ their conservative without actually doing anything to help grow the party. You got a guy like Charlie Kirk, an active racist who thinks Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders were a bunch of hacks that don't deserve the credit they get. If not for these same civil rights leaders these black conservatives wouldn't be in the positions they're in. And yet Kirk has a huge following that has a lot of pull in the GOP. How can you be a black conservative with such a blatant hypocrisy going on in your own party? That literally goes against trying to better yourself.
So the worse offenders of this are black conservatives that proudly and loudly proclaim they're black conservatives. They want everyone to know they are on the GOP's side, but don't actually want to change the GOP for the better. So yeah, I concur with the fact that they are "Revolutionaries that don't want to fight." They want the mantle of creating a new era without going through the hardship of doing so; hoping that they can ride the coattails of others that will pull them across the "finish line" of a new time.

White youth do not feel bad about being taught American history. White kids are NOT being taught that they are bad because of US history. That is a Republican talking point that lacks merit. It is not about making anyone feel bad or guilty but acknowledging the truth and working together to create a more just and equitable society. Let us embrace the challenges of our history and use them as opportunities to grow and evolve as a nation. Together, we can make America a great nation for all its citizens. Let us stand united in our quest for truth, justice, and progress. The idea of a politician using the ideology of dismissing a social problem as someone else's problem is counterintuitive to what American leadership is for if it is not working to advance the quality of life for our country; it has no actual or logical purpose.

Their plan would even raise the Social Security retirement age.
Like President Biden promised in the Capitol, "If anyone here tries to cut Social Security or Medicare or raise the retirement age I will stop them."
He's keeping that promise by standing against this new House Republican budget. He knows the last thing we should do is raid Medicare and Social Security while giving more giant tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations.

I do not feel bad about being white for the sins of our fathers. I "blame" my parents for not teaching me racism (a good thing), and I grew up in the south. I was 25 years old before I understood what "there goes the neighborhood" means. But I am proud of the progress we've made, long and as arduous as the journey has been, through the civil war, the reconstruction amendments, and the "official" end of separate but equal and Jim Crow.
I also realize we have a lot of work to do ending illegal gerrymandering and other voter suppression schemes as well as ensuring civil rights. MLK's dream speech so many whitewash became his nightmare. It's a shame we still have to fight this battle. There are reasons the old confederate south largely votes conservative today. Democrats now carry the banner of the party of Lincoln and have for nearly a century. Old wounds never die, they just change parties.

That type of education needs to go further to show how that history progressed to affect America and Black people today. Most people think that after slavery black people were free to live and prosper. This neglects the intentionally racist economic policies and laws. Awareness is the only way to initiate change.

Yeah, when we had the topic of slavery in history class. I was only out one of 1 or two other black kids and the white kids didn't feel bad at all. As a matter of fact they'd look back at me in pity, so glad they weren't me!😂
Everything repubs say is some made up bullshit and Rice is an idiot for believing it and parroting it. It was never my experience then (1960's) nor when I was an interpreter in the public school system in the mid 90's.
Slavery, manifest destiny, the Boston riots over busing, the Holocaust - none of it made any white kids feel bad or guilty and if they went home and said so, their parents would, in fact, have corrected them to be proud they were white.
Most kids tend to think the world revolves around them. Very few feel guilty over something they didn't do much less actually did do and lie to their parents about. They're spending too much time bullying and torturing classmates until they are ready to commit suicide.

The white victimization thing is just an excuse for conservative whites to ignore the past and ignore how to fix the future. And also to give them a chance to be and continue to be racist. I lived a few years in Germany where by law it is mandatory that they learn about the Holocaust. Most, if not all kids in Germany don't ever feel bad about what their ancestors did to the Jewish people. They just know and grow up learning that it was wrong and that we should learn how to not do it again.

From personal experience learning about the mistreatment of blacks year after year only influenced the way I view white Americans in a negative way. Imo the current racism is the more important issue. We shouldn't ignore history but maybe we shouldn't spend every February being told our ancestors were slaves. We shouldn't have to spend every February learning how black leaders were assassinated. If we must learn black history as dictated by the American education system we should learn about the good things that happened like black inventors and inventions.

I'm White, and I went to a predominately Black elementary school with a plurality of White kids in Memphis when I was a kid back in the 90's. I was taught a lot about racism and the Civil Rights Movement every February. It didn't make me feel "inferior" or anything, it just taught me that there were people who were good and helping, and those that were trying to hold progress back. I learned that MLK had White friends as a kid and how he couldn't understand why some parents had problems with him as a Black boy hanging out with them, and he felt shunned out. Being both neurodivergent and gay, this is a feeling I related with on a personal level. Our school actually had a pretty even mix of White, Hispanic, and Black kids and we all got along and were friends. I honestly as a kid couldn't comprehend why people in the past (and present) had division over the color of someone's skin. To me it was like Spock, "Most certainly illogical." The Black kids lived similar lives to my own, and I didn't really see them as "different." Honestly, I think racism is taught, not endemic.
