Candice Owens.... I am a black man and a retired airline captain. I have held a commercial pilot certificate for 40 years and an Airline Transport Pilot certificate for 30 years. All pilots regardless of race or gender are trained and assessed equally. All pilots have exceptional experience before being chosen as a candidate for employment as a pilot for a major airline in the United States of America. There are requirements that must be met. You can find those in the Federal Aviation Regulations. The problem is when I was hired for a major U.S. airline, less than one half of one percent of airline pilots flying for a U.S. air carrier were African American. The only way to create a level playing field for any person that's not male and white in the U.S.A. was to create laws that mandate rules for hiring other persons that are not just male and white. We call that quotas. Yes, necessary due to racist hiring practices in our great nation. Black pilots and women have served in the U.S. military since world war two. I've flown with white women, black women, black men and white men, Asian men, Men and women that speak Spanish, French, Arabic and Yoruba. Most all were outstanding and professional. We are a human race, Candice. We all have potential. Let's make America better than it ever has been.

You're missing the point. In the case of your niece, she worked as a pilot not because there was need to hire a black pilot. Among whites and blacks she clearly qualified without a quota system. But the fear is that when you start having a quota system, you may start lowering the standard for that.

As a white man, I can say this without hesitation...if you look at our country's history, black progress and success has always been met with white backlash. It is absolutely true. The dismantling of DEI efforts is just another example of this in our country's long, sad racial history...one step forward is always followed by two steps back. We have got to break this cycle. And it takes all of us white people, especially white men, to LOOK PAST OURSELVES, and to try to understand the struggles of others. We've got to fight the tendency to avoid this task. What's worse is that so many of us have begun twisting and perverting the concepts of racial equality in order to avoid dealing with these realities and return to a society dominated by white supremacy.

Where the White military officers would not place Black officers in charge of Black combat troops. They would even place lesser educated and trained Puerto Rican Officers in charge.
Now after generation after generation there are still people who question the professional status of women and persons of color.
I my friend Fred, was a black sailor, he spent 26 years in Naval service. He attended 21 military schools and never finish less than 5th in any of his classes. He was a very smart man. But they still questioned his abilities.

Nervous, I sat with her looking for someone I could approach to ask if they would be of comfort to her in the case of emergency. I saw a woman, asked, and she agreed. A few moments later the crew showed up. As they approached my daughter caught the eye of a woman pilot. I saw pilot wings on a black woman. I was almost in tears; I knew my daughter was safe! I knew that the black woman pilot was automatically at the top of her game! She looked at my daughter and smiled.

Yes. Back when you could trust that she wasn't some DEI placement. You could know she rose to the top on merit. Although depending on how many years ago that was, because affirmative action have been placing less qualified people in jobs for years. You do know that they are bringing in numbers of people for the sake of increasing numbers? Back then you know that the pilots were a fit temperamentally, cognitively, and full of precise experience, because they were military pilots(the vast majority). Now we have less reason to feel safe. It's easy to feel happy seeing black faces, but you don't consider what the reasoning behind this push for more non white males really means. It means more compliant, more apathetic workers, we've seen it over and over again. After firing the many pilots for not taking the shot, and those that did take it are dying and sick, they ramp up this DEI in aviation scheme. Meanwhile we get less experienced, rushed through black and female pilots. It's not something we should be comfortable with. They put a black face on everything destructive so they can pacify people and find cover with the claim of "racism". You can't even imagine the relentless evil these people have planned.

This is all freakin ridiculous. I have been an airline pilot for nearly 30 years and I can confirm that EVERY BLACK pilot on the flight decks of most airlines are highly qualified, because we are not judged fairly during training. The black candidate HAS to perform above and beyond to succeed. We are judged a lot harder than our Caucasian counterparts. FACT!!! To this day, as a Captain flying a B767, I get frustrated with some of the white First officers on the flight deck, wondering how they pass training. I have seen it with my own eyes how they get preferential treatment.
The comment made by United was racist…. It’s strictly to justify the reason why more black pilots are being hired, discrediting our true value. In this era where pilot shortage is real, the industry needs pilots badly. Most of the favored white pilots ain’t making it through training or during IOE(initial operating experience). FACT. Period!!

When it comes to being responsible for hundreds of lives at one single time, as a pilot , you best believe you want the most qualified person regardless of their race. There is a reason why all they do is demonize Conservatives. They need you to believe Conservatives are evil bc they know if you actually spent time around conservatives they know you will begin to question everything you thought you knew. They have to demonize Black conservatives bc they are scared to death of the rise in Black and Latino support for Trump. The fear began when we were no longer slaves. We showed just how strong a people we were, which wasn’t expected. We began to thrive, and in many instances surpass. This is what started movement to keep us from becoming the powerhouse we are capable of becoming. For those that don’t know, back in 1898, this country had it’s first stolen election in Wilmington NC. The end result was the writing of the White Man’s Declaration of Independence; which includes a statement declaring that whites will never answer to a person of color. What started then in Wilmington, filtered throughout the south, and started the suppression of blacks. The laws and rules were written to ensure we had no fare opportunities to grow as a people, and to ensure we could always be considered, less than. The problem then and throughout history, right up until today, is that whenever we are truly and fairly given the opportunity, we absolutely kill it! A level playing field for many against equality, means those that were considered less than, often times show up as equal to, or better than. That’s the fear!

The black ppl defending Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens and justifying their prejudices makes me quite sad. I love my brothers and sisters, but man ppl will spit right in our face and some of us will say that it's just raining outside. Stated simply, no matter how hard I work, no matter how credentialed or certified I am, none of that matters because I am a black man. They cant see my skills or talents just by looking at me, yet they can see my skin color. Because I'm black, Charlie Kirk's default response is to assume that I'm not qualified. Candace Owens saw the same clip we did, and did ninja gymnastics to come to the conclusions that she would have the same feeling if she say a woman flying. She's pretty much saying "His racism is okay because I'm slightly sexist myself."

The qualification and certification is a foundational given. DEI strives to help women or people of color gain access to the PATHS, the knowledge and mentorship in terms of where to go, where to apply, what order to organize your courses, stipends and funding. These people don’t know the first person to go to for a recommendation where who they know are janitors, the store clerk and church yard caregiver. Minorités aren’t exposed and mingle with people of society of prestige. Paths must be provided and made for those who have the talent but no access.

I'm white, not from a rich family, never went to a top university, never had to ask for a recommendation for a job, never had any mentorship, never had any career guidance at all (newsflash: all guidance counselors suck, and don't know anything, it's not because of the color of your skin that they don't give you any actual help), and never even had it as option because nobody in my family works in my field or anywhere near it. Every company I've gone to was one I knew nobody else who worked there. This past time looking for a new job was excruciating, I just landed one and am signing the contract today, I'm nearly broke so it's come just in the nick of time, but the role is not a good one situation for my career but it pays so there's no way I could refuse the offer. I was never provided with any PATHS any time in my life, who should I complain to??? Do you see how ridiculous your premise and worldview is? I don't know *anybody* in my field who had any of the PATHS or mentorship you are talking about, and my field is overwhelmingly populated by whites and asians. Where do I get me some government-funded mentors or PATHS? Or don't I qualify because of the color of my skin?

We have some form of DEI in some fields in my country, Kenya. We've fortunately had Kenyan female pilots flying the latest/largest commercial aircraft for many decades, but mostly just kids from privileged backgrounds were becoming pilots. So aviation was introduced in a few public high schools, with donated aircraft. The kids in these high schools spend four years interacting with real aircraft and many of them have gone on to become pilots, aeronautical engineers, technicians etc. Just an anecdote to make an additional point that DEI doesn't have to be about race or gender only

@@benisrood ouuu! Complain to? Your situation may be of chance or luck. No one is complaining in my scenario. There are undiscovered talents out there with no directional guidance. Why not lend a helping hand do disadvantaged members of society, so they can then uplift, build up and give back to their communities? Where do these applicants get those polished letters of recommendations? (I’ve had to proffer 3 sealed letters of recommendations for law school). How do they know what to wear to an interview? If everyone around you never left the cyclical cycle of poverty it’s likely that you will. But a brain is a terrible thing to waste. While nepotism and legacy donor kids are soaking up all the good paying jobs, this creates a barrier to entry for less connected yet brilliant minds. No free passes, but a clearer path, a less ambiguous requirements with equal opportunities for all interested AND talented.

Candace said she's starting to care because of diversity hires. Putting aside the truth of that claim, would you care more about skin color if you thought that was happening?

Boy oh boy, Candance and Charlie are the updated versions of Amos and Andy, literally in Black and white. My question is what are their qualifications on this issue? I'll wait!

My daughter is a Naval aviator flying the Navy’s EA18 Growler launching from an Aircraft Carrier. Her back seat Naval Officer (RIO = Radio Intercept Officer) is a white male Naval officer. What are the odds of that. They have been flying together for years. She’s a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and she graduated in the top 1% in her class. She has been flying for the Navy how going into her 17th year. She has completed several combat missions. I know she’s qualified but, there are those out there who would deem her “Not Qualified”. I would love for someone to tell me she’s not qualified. Someone, please do.

I bet you would give them way more than a piece of your mind. It is my understanding that a majority of commercial pilots have military piloting experience.

A young lady from my community flies for the airforce. It was her dream from a very young age. And she prepared herself very well. Another flew solo at the age of 16 and will soon be flying commercially.
