What sets his songs apart is how he focused on the melody first. Each one was so unique you can just hear any one of his songs with only the guitar playing and you'd know instantly it was a Nirvana song or a Cobain song. A lot of music.
If you listen closely to the best version of this song ever recorded, it has those same descending notes in the verse, only not as often- I am of course referring to the 11-25-90 performance.
@@prpwnage9296 I mean this recording is 30 years old. I'm sure there was rumors of a acoustic and this guy heard about it and was happy to hear it finally surfaced
It's in my top 10-15 for sure. Sometimes he just didn't understand how great his songs were. We can't really take anything off of Nevermind as every song is a classic, but most of In Utero is inferior to this song, Sappy, Old Age, and several others

The "final" lyrics were changed to be, much like most of the lyrics on Nevermind, about his experiences/pain of rejection in regards to Toby Vail, the girl from Bikini Kill who wouldn't be his girlfriend bc of her Riot Grrl views, despite Kurt's feelings - "love you so much it makes me sick!"(Aneurysm, if you didn't know, which you should!). For ex: "You're the reason I feel pain Feel's so good to feel again..."
between all these new mixes, takes, demos, and solo acoustic songs, theres def more material for another box set. not to mention the handful of studio sessions and acoustic home recordings that have been available on bootleg for years; there are probably better sources that exist. they could also include live soundboard versions of songs that were never recorded but only played live a few times. examples could be verse chorus verse (for better vocals) and talk to me. there were also a couple of weird noisy but poppy songs played two or three times each in '93.
off the top of my head, this one and the other acoustic demos that haven't been officially released. soundboard versions of ivy league, unreleased studio sessions like e-coli for example, the band demo of do re mi, soundboard version of talk to me. I can't remember anymore cause there's so many. soundboard talk to me would be amazing. it would just be nice to have everything left on one album. like this demo is as good as the other acoustic ones on wtlo but why didn't they include it? maybe they're trying to milk Kurt. theres an amazing acoustic version of old age that isn't officially released.
and I've read that Courtney has demos Kurt recorded with Eric from hole and I forget who else. I get why those aren't released since they are a different project than nirvana cause of the members. I think do re mi was recorded with them too
Man I wish he would have just finished the vocals on this and Old Age from the nevermind sessions. They would have been amazing B-sides. Although maybe he was saving them for another album. Those 2, and full band studio versions of Talk to Me, Opinion, & Do Re Mi would have made an excellent EP. Sigh....
I highly doubt he would have ever worked on Old Age again as he gifted it to Courtney and her band Hole. Also Talk To Me I think they knew that if they put it out it was going to become a mainstream success so they chose not to or maybe they were saving it, who knows
Apparently there’s a version of this song which is nowhere on the internet. It’s an alternate version of the outtake from the Sound City Studios sessions. People say it got big muff in the chorus part, where the regular outtake version just has clean guitar tone. Do you have that version bu any chance? Really wanna hear that
This goes to show there is more demo stuff out there that Courtney is in possession of and should authorize another official rarities CD set like WTLO or a 1 or 2 CD set with material like this. How does this stuff leak?
Would it be possible to give me the source to download? TH-cam lowers the quality a bit and I'd like the best one possible. Would be really glad if you could do that.

This song was on the same tape that Sliver from WTLO came from. I can only assume they didn't want to duplicate the same song (albeit different versions) on the same disc.
it's not one of his best, I'm not surprised it wasn't fully realised, it feels like a worki in progress tune which was discarded due to there being much greater songs that were swirling around at this point
Seems like you are the one that have missed something. Verse Chorus Verse was a mid 1990 - early 1991 composition that was last played during Nevermind's sessions as an outtake and only released in WTLO. I do recall seeing a picture of a written setlist in a concert where this song was played in mid 1990. Could have been a working title, but no other title is known for this song that comes from first hand material. Sappy was probably the song with most development by the band, being first recorded as an acoustic demo in 1988 - 1989 (I bet 1988 judging by the really bad quality), and was last re-recorded (after being recorded three times previously) in 1993 during In Utero's session. Sappy is the title song and I am sure there are written setlists from 1994 where the title Sappy was used, meanwhile this song (the one from the video) was forgotten.
@@davidchez513 they used the name verse chorus verse as a place holder for sappy during the in utero sessions back when the album was called v.c.v. However, post kurt death they decided to use the o.g 1988 title of the song to Sappy. Verse Chorus Verse was then used for the song in the video "In His hands"
Hey folks you call yourself Nirvana Fans? And do not know the difference between verse and in his hands? Look at the chords.Or the style Kurt is singing it ?

Yes it is. Verse Chorus Verse was the name of both Sappy (which during the in utero session they used said name) and In His Hands (the song in this video). During the making of the with the lgiht outs boxset, they decided to keep the 80s to early 90s name of V.C.V which was Sappy. Then they changed the name for the song In His Hands to Verse Chorus Verse.
