June 2016. Picked up my new boat in Rockport (I live in San Antonio). Took the ferry to Port A and hit a Tahoe in a parking lot at a bait shop. Skipped the fishing. Took her back to San Antonio. A week later, put in at Calaveras. So excited. By the time I got parked and back, she was sinking. I put the plug in the live well drain....tried to get her back on the trailer and hit a rock. Denting the prop. Went home. Finally back a Calaveras a week later, no fish. 4 trips later, a catfish. Maybe 5th trip to North Padre, broke a leaf spring on the trailer. This is my third boat. WIFE IS TRACKING BOAT COST Divided by Fish Pounds. I'm paying about $500 a pound for fish.... welcome to the struggle.

With that style of boat, low gunwales and the leaning post, I highly recommend:
    1. Attach the kill switch lanyard to the PFD you should be wearing,
    2. Buy a 2nd lanyard, so she can go pick you up when you take a wave wrong and get tossed off the leaning post into the water
Advice from a guy who has been operating a Sheriff Patrol Boat in Cali for the past 25 years. NICE BOAT!!!!

Look into the Wireless MOB (Man Over Board). Lanyards always get in the way and you tend to disconnect them. I got one a FELL Marine MOB that is sold on Amazon.Easy to install - wires right into your kill switch. Buy the wrist band attachment that you can wear or clip to your PFD.

I’ve been boating for over 30 years and I’ve never owned a boat with a “safety lanyard.” I’ve always seen them cause problems and accidents, so I have disabled them on every boat I’ve owned that came with them. Too many times they get ripped off when you try to move a little causing a loss of control that ends up with a wrecked boat when there was no danger of falling over. When your engine stops for no reason and you are fighting the current in a river, that “safety” lanyard can destroy your boat. Try to move around looking for stumps? Well, your cord pops off and you can’t control the boat. By the time you hook it back up and restart, you have drifted into something and damaged your boat.
When I worked as a salvage diver, I saw more dead bodies wearing life jackets than not. They always got hung up on parts of the boat and trapped the wearer. So many kids killed because idiots push for life jackets. Never wear something with straps all over it that will hang up. That will kill you faster than not wearing one.

I just discovered your channel. I have subbed. My father lives about a quarter mile from the Shoalwater factory in Port O Connor. Those boats have been a staple in this town for years. Great boats and they will run in very shallow water. Just don’t let up on the throttle or you will firmly plant the boat to the mud! I know this video is 3 years old but congratulations on your Shoalwater

Also, from San Antone and started to write stories about my 5 boats, then I realized there's not enuff room on this page:
    1) Sam Rayburn Lake= Lost the left U- bolt that holds axle to frame.
    2) First trip with new boat on trip to Lake Sommerville. Left wheel bearing had a Buddy Bearing, but they forgot to put cotter key in nut. Left boat, motor and trailer in Needville Tx.
Have many more if you have a week.
Good Luck I'll be waiting for your videos.

First time Boating is definitely a learning experience. Been through several styles of boats over my life . skiff, bass boat , walk-around cuddly. Happiest now with my peddle drive kayak. Must less to go wrong. “Boat” - a hole in the water that you throw money into. But still so much fun.

I bought my 21' Shoalwater from Waypoint (i live in Houston). Family and i had a mini vaca down in corpus, picked up the boat on the final day, went to drop it in the water, made it down the channel about 1/2 a mile and it just died...waited a few seconds, started right up...got up on plane...then after a few seconds....died...was able to start it back up and idle back to the ramp luckily. Called up Waypoint...they took it back immediately...said to go have lunch real quick and they'd figure out what was wrong. After a few hours, they learned that the fuel line from the tank to the engine was kinked outta the factory...they fixed it, and i haven't had an issue since....that was back in 2018. Eddie and Jared Poole were awesome throughout the whole experience and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one from them in the future! I'm glad they were able to get your stuff figured out...

Hey man, from a guy in the coast guard, a guy that’s home some experience with boats, and a guy who actually just earlier today watched some dude jump off his boat onto another because his boat was taking on water... buy extra boat plugs and leave in the boat... if you leave in while trailering, they can fall out and you’re screwed... if you take out while trailering, you can miss place and same thing, and or you can forget to put them back in before launching... and you don’t want to forget them in the car... boat plugs. Buy some, out in the boat... and if you start feeling butt heavy you can get some water out if you get up on plain.... and then put the plug(s) back in. But yes. Extra boat plugs. Little while ago saw a guy with his brand new boat sink it over there by snoopy’s in corpus. Dude had to abandon ship. So boat plugs man. Buy extras... keep them on the boat. Lol

    • @buster7618
      @buster7618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This. I have a fake boat plug keychain on my boat keys as a reminder. I keep a drain plug in the truck and I keep a few on the boat. Be a dork, use a physical checklist before you launch. This is why I just prefer doing it once a year and being on a slip haha.
I also recommend doubling and tripling up on bilge pumps connected to different batteries. Sinking in a boat is a devastating feeling.

Hey T.R.H.., looks like we fish the same waters.
Boat ownership, non stop maintenance, especially when used on salt.
My Suzuki brake in made the engine overheat also. Actually, it'll still overheat under certain conditions, which you'll learn how to avoid. They red-line pretty high, but I can't stay at 6500 for to long, or here comes that buzzer. Time to back it off a little. Kinda bullshit, but does protect the motor.

I'm not sure exactly how it is rigged, but if it doesn't already have them I would suggest Lenco trim tabs and a power pole, along with a Ipilot trolling motor. I would also suggest talking to someone who is familiar with props and having prop work done in order to get the most performance out of the boat as possible. Enjoy the boat most of all.

Beautiful boat. Hate that y’all had such a rough start. Y’all didn’t happen to bring some bananas on the maiden voyage did you? Hopefully y’all have had, and will continue to have many safe and happy trips. Subscribed.

My comments to the builder, dealer............c'mon man!!! They should know some of the potential issues off the bat. I've owned boats for 20+ years, dealers / builders live and breathe these things daily. I would have expected them to know the potential issues up front. Also they should have gone through the boat with you as you picked it up......that way they could see the gauges and point everything out, that way no mistakes between water pressure and oil pressure. We had a 1 hour walk through with our dealer after delivery, went through the boat back to front. The little scoop to assist with water pressure should have come standard on the Suzy if it was a known issue.

Thanks for showing real boat ownership. You will get the proper use out of it because of how much time you’ll spend on it. Most people are better of renting one a few times a year. I’ll love vicariously though you!

did you buy that boat from wayside in corpus? it looked like their parking lot. when we got our 23ft shoalwater, they didn't tell us anything about the boat and also had to learn as we went fishing.

ok i have not perused your library yet but lets see the fish finder, or buy the new one mount it and see the highs and lows of that fiasco. never heard you talk yet of all the things your boat needs, but you never have enough things for the boat. fun vid though.

Love your channel. Great vid ! What was the part number or vendor that you used for your pickup valves that took care of the low water pressure issue? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Goes to show you some mainstream boat dealers slap boats together to get them out and sold over look some thing that are a must and then sell them too you at a premium because you need them pisses you off that’s why my father in law and I drove from Texas to Florida to purchase a brand new boat and cut out the middle man so worth it and saved 10 grand in the process.

If you get a power pole and want to save money, go with an 8ft sportsman series, if money not an issue go w a blade, same thing, also I would recommend putting a backrest for your seat, it's not fun when you dont have something to lean on and almost fly backwards
