Two dreamers coming together to make the masterpiece known as Millennium Actress. Satoshi Kon's imagination and film style along side Susumu Hirasawa's surreal sound rivals Miyazaki films. Every Satoshi Kon movie touches your soul one way or another. You will be missed Kon, may your journey never end.
god i miss Satoshi Kon. all too briefly did you touch the world. fortunately, you left behind a positively epic filmography. this comment will ultimately disappear in time, but i would like to thank you(here and now) for bringing your visions to the world. if there is some measure of justice, you'll be remembered for years to come

I cried the day Satoshi Kon died. I cried for his family, the man, the artist, all that he accomplished and most of all - all that he could've accomplished. I followed his work from Perfect Blue and all the way to Paprika (and everything in between) and his genius is irreplaceable and his loss leaves a hole that no one ca fill.
I remember when I first watched this movie more than 10 years ago and I cried like baby. Back then I was just as naive with a stupid crush on someone I knew I'd never see again, so I could relate to some of Chiyoko's feelings. I grew out of that crush of course, but I still cry watching the film because now I see Chiyoko in a different light. She's the embodiment of the below: Dedicate yourself wholly to your passion, whatever that may be. Never forget it, never lose hope and never give up. ...and it's f*cking beautiful. We should all try to be a little bit more like Chiyoko. On another note, I recently learnt the lyrics to this song (the two lines the girl sings): Don't say, don't say, don't say the word "like" Don't say, don't say, don't say the word "love" I've always found this song sad and beautiful and now that I know the what the lyrics are saying, it's even more beautiful and reinforces what I wrote above... This movie was never about love, it was about dedication.
Easily one of the best Anime films I have ever seen. I just love the original plot, the inventive storytelling and the use of humour. It was all brilliantly executed.
Hollywood can't reach the complexity and the emotion that japanese animation can do, especially a true master like Sir Kon. Let his filmo in animation. Live action can't show same things with such power.
Satoshi Kon, you have my deepest respect and gratitude, your work is unlike anything i have ever seen. This anime, this pure art allowed me to feel i was part of it. A unique expierence that i shall never forget and may you never be forgotten! Same goes for you Susumu Hirasawa!
Millennium Actress is one of my all time favorite anime films! unique story line, witty humor, and breathtaking scenery. even though I have watched it many times, it still makes me cry.
That said, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Millennium Actress. It follows a director and his cameraman who have tracked down a famous actress, who became a recluse when she dropped out of films 30 years prior. The director returns a key to her that he found, which causes her to reflect on her career, as well as the story behind the key she carried. Really, really fantastic movie. Also, be prepared to cry like a baby.
The rhythm bring me back to the movie, the movie of "pursuing". One step forward whole heartily to pursue, the story begins and ends. How sad it is, how beautiful it is. God I love this movie.
Watched this movie for the first time a few months ago, and quickly concluded it was one of the best movies I had ever seen. I don’t know how Millennium Actress escaped me all these years. It truly is a work of genius.
Just watched this movie today. Stunning work! What a master piece. This is the greatest anime film I've ever seen. R.I.P. Mr. Satoshi Kon. This is the great lost in the world. Thank you for bring your talent in this world.
Yeah - I just watched it again, and as soon as I heard this song tears started welling up in my eyes. It wasn't even an innately sad part, but remembering everything that happens with this song in the backdrop got to me.
This was a beautiful movie, no doubt about it. It is truly a testament to how a the best stories are the simplest ones. Just a plain love story with little in the way of twists and turns.
Good Bye Satoshi Kon. Thanks for some of the most fascinating moments in anime and film in general. Sayonara! So sad, but he must be hanging out with Osamu Tezuka =)
I know what you mean - considering what happened, it's probably the best outcome for her, because at least she can pass on knowing that the moon isn't yet full. It would've been really sad if she'd found out what'd happened to her painter, but there's no way Genya would devastate her like that.
@momomimee that's not surprising since the artist got a lot of his influence from Thailand. His name is Hirasawa Susumu and anyone who loves this song will be blown away by his other works!
Nope. Although the director for Millennium Actress was Satoshi Kon, who was also responsible for Paprika, Paranoia Agent, and Tokyo Godfathers (All works that I *HIGHLY* recommend). Also of note is that the music for Millennium Actress, Paprika, and Paranoia Agent (as well as the anime adaptation of Berserk) was handled by Susumu Hirasawa, hence why the music for all of them are fantastic.
@zombiesquirrels8D basically Millenium Actress told the story of chiyoko fujiwara, who back during her youth was a famous actress. of course, along with being an actress, she had met an artist who she let take refuge at her home. along with telling chiyoko's story, the movie was a 'play within a play', so some scenes seemed more confusing than others. pretty much though the movie was about the famous chiyoko's life of acting, plus her own chasing of the artist she had fallen in love with.
Thank you Satoshi Kon. From Paprika to this Mellenium, I am picking up every jewerlly you have left us with. Thank you Japanese. Your creativity keeping dream what it is in this world.
@EmiieRoxs Ohh. Thanks! Because I was so confused whether if the scenes they were showing were real, like from her past, or movie clips. So I didn't understand what was going on. But now i get it a little more :3 Thanks again!
Hmmn, on the subject of "object of her affection" you really need to re-watch the movie. And pay particular attention to the very end and the last bit of dialogue she says. I ain't sayin' nothing here because I sure as hell won't spoil it for anyone, but yeah, just watch it. It's sweet.
This is unrelated, but I don't have a middle name, and am planning on taking the name Chiyoko. If by some circumstances I become a resident or citizen of Japan, I'll take the name Chiyoko Fujiwara.
If you had a girl like Chiyoko she wouldn't be an actress nor would she be pursuing you. She is who she is because of what she's missing not what she has. So no person could have chiyoko because if she's with you she's not who she is in the movie.

+sneakyskunk1 True art, art that unites technical perfection with the feeling (soul, if you prefer), never die.
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad to read it and share your vision of this amazing artist who change my life, my job and my vision of cinema.
It did not disappear yet :)

i would say that no crush is stupid. All crushes helps us grow. :-)
Amount of light this comment has given me🌕. Thanks for this gem
for me it's "the chasing" about the guy that drives her passion
Easily one of the best Anime films I have ever seen. I just love the original plot, the inventive storytelling and the use of humour. It was all brilliantly executed.
The ending was sad T_T
I don't think Hollywood can ever make a movie like this one.
Karami anime and Japan are other world so far away of us. Directors like Satoshi Kon...I want to see someone like him soon.
Hollywood can't reach the complexity and the emotion that japanese animation can do, especially a true master like Sir Kon. Let his filmo in animation. Live action can't show same things with such power.

I just watched the movie today. It's an absolute masterpiece. And this music is spectacular.

Yeah - I just watched it again, and as soon as I heard this song tears started welling up in my eyes. It wasn't even an innately sad part, but remembering everything that happens with this song in the backdrop got to me.

OH GOD... just listening to this is making me teary!!

In Taipei, this song is used as background music for TV commercials selling newly built apartments.
I still think some of the best music Hirasawa ever wrote was for this film. This piece especially- it's incredibly moving
Great movie & soundtrack, I wish I knew all the people on youtube who feel the same way.
this song is amazing and it changed my life
@EmiieRoxs Ohh. Thanks! Because I was so confused whether if the scenes they were showing were real, like from her past, or movie clips. So I didn't understand what was going on. But now i get it a little more :3 Thanks again!

Yesss Sir!!!!
This and memoirs of a geisha are kind of the same. Even the names Chiyo and Chiyoko are close. I love both movies
This is stunning. It gives a real nice rise of happiness.
Can someone explain to me what this movie was about? I was quite confused ^^'
yeah I like never cry in movies but this one was different. I hope she found the painter in the end...
Hmmn, on the subject of "object of her affection" you really need to re-watch the movie. And pay particular attention to the very end and the last bit of dialogue she says. I ain't sayin' nothing here because I sure as hell won't spoil it for anyone, but yeah, just watch it. It's sweet.
This movie is unique in its ability to make me squall like a three year old girl every time the ending comes up.
อย่าเอ่ย อย่าเอ่ย เอ่ยคำว่าชอบ อย่าเอ่ย อย่าเอ่ย อย่าเอ่ยคำว่ารักเลย
This is unrelated, but I don't have a middle name, and am planning on taking the name Chiyoko. If by some circumstances I become a resident or citizen of Japan, I'll take the name Chiyoko Fujiwara.
Statoshi Kon really seemed to like the name Chiyoko

koalabrownie indeed
Wait, you mean you haven't seen Millennium Actress?
Does anyone know the lyrics to this song?
What movie is this? I feel stupid,... but please?
I would like to have a girl like Chiyoko love me so much to go to such lengths to find me no matter where I might be
Is the language Thai or Laos?
His music... Susumu... it seems suitable for full length movies... probably not as good for television series.
what Paorth46 said (WATCH IT! Hell i'll send ya a link if ya can't find it)
I don't think I have... I thought it was Paprika.
You should.
WAIT. Paprika? =.=
Is this Susumu??
Yes it is.
