Nice job! I made one about two years ago. I'm still watching videos for more ideas. I've saw where one creator used old 16 ounce water bottles and stuffed the lights inside of the bottles. They arranged them around as logs and sprayfoamed them. This was done so that if the lights quit working they could replace them.
This is a great build! Another way you can access your lights to replace as necessary is get clear vinyl tubing big enough to pull it through, and then you can still arrange similarly to how you did here.
Awesome! I made a mini one and used battery operated lights on a timer to use for my Halloween Byers Choice dolls. I just used a small bowl the size of the firepit I wanted...turned it upside down, covered it with plastic wrap and sprayed on the foam insulation. When it dried, it was super easy to peel off the plastic wrap. Then just drybrushed black, red and gray paint. Since it's essentially like a upside down spray foam bowl, it gave me space underneath for the lights and battery pack. It came out really good.
I got an electric fireplace and the see-through part that simulates cracked burning wood has got a hole in it and I'm gathering ideas on how to either completely remake it or patch the hole. I am trying to make it see through so I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to do it. Thanks for giving me ideas though this might work if I have to completely recreate it. And it also when it comes to shaking a can it's a pretty nifty trick to strap it onto a reciprocating saw blade lol you can shake The living daylights out of it.
I've seen a bunch of expanding foam coal pits over the years but this is the first time I've seen someone make one with carved pool noodles. That's super clever! I've also always wondered how feasible it would be to put plastic wrap or a clear bag overtop the light string so you could remove them later if any bulbs need replacing, or if you wanted to use them for something else.
LOL Thanks. You could probably do that with the plastic wrap, I bet it would work. I just won't ever use these lights for anything else. heck these had been sitting around the house for 2 years and never used them until now..
Just came across your video while looking for other videos on how to make coals/fire for a witch Cauldron. I've watched sooo many videos and this is absolutely one of the BEST I've seen. I do have a question though, as summer is almost over here I dont know how easy it will he to find an Orange Pool Noodle . Do you think other colors would work or does it HAVE to be Orange?? Also, do you think it would be ok to just spray paint the foam instead of painting by hand?
I think other colors would work, I do think the orange helps with the burning look. Ya you can totally spray paint it, I spray painted the black on there. Dry brushing the other colors on really brings the details out. You may be able to achieve something like that with a spray can but I’d assume you would have to hit it at angles. Thanks for watching the video. Others on here that have that fun flare but all are Halloween related
@@UnhingedProductions1 thank you so much..I actually found some pipe tubing insulation I had laying around. It was smaller than the pools noodles as well and also White so I cut it up and used a Dental pic like you did and hand painted it all orange. Doesn't look as good as yours but turned out decent ..lol. I went ahead and ordered white and grey acrylic paint like you used and will be starting today. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. Lots of the DIY/Tutorial channels don't bother responding, so I truly appreciate it.
Looking for a fake fire to put under my witch's cauldron in the yard for Halloween this year and this looks so good!! I think I'm going to have to try it
I'm making a cauldron creep for my display this year. I just got back from the dollar store with an orange pool noodle to make my fire. I really love that idea. Ill have to post a pic on facebook when its done. Thanks for the vid.
Im having such a hard time finding orange pool noodles 😫 Im on a fixed budget but every year I add to my decor, because when i was a kid a family in our town did an awesome haunted house! It was just their yard & porch, but they had spooky music playing you could hear from the end of the tree lined road, so the walk to the house added to the experience. When we got there wed have to walk past coffins & we never knew if or when someone was going to pop up! There were dummys in rocking chairs on the porch & one would always be someone in costume & theyd either moan or chase us 😂 & a hand would pop out of a slit in a curtain on the door & give us candy. Not many go all out anymore & that being my fondest menory of childhood, I like to try to recreate what I can at my house for the kiddos. This year Im adding a cemetery area with fence, fog, gravestones, bones & a zombie that pushes his way up out of the ground while making noises, two witches with a cauldron (just need to source green LEDS & 2 or 3 water misters. Ive also got a animatronic pumpkin that talks & a spidee that drops down out of the trees then pulls itself back up 😊 But Id love to make a faux fire for the witches cauldron. I think it would be the perfect addition!
Yes yes! We are in the same page.. I do what I do because when I was a kid there was a house that had dummy’s with wire attached and they would raise a hand on the dummy then talk through a speaker as the dummy to us kids.. they had other spooky stuff and it was my favorite place to go.. it made memories for me and I loved it! That is exactly why I do this! I know it’s making memories for all kinds of kids for years to come! Thanks for watching and sharing your memories
Omg my friend, love this fireplace….I love it’s for thanksgiving and Christmas in my living room when I have people’s over for dinner. And turn off the sooner they live. Very nice just like real fire 🔥…thank you, been gone trying to finish my updating my furniture…but I’m back here and there’s…have a fantastic weekend…🙋♀️
I just been getting into papier-mâché trees that look like from some evil video game or something and then trying to figure out how I can up my game with it and have been thinking about also doing a bonfire from caveman days for my living room and found this I have to add a little of this to my invention, I’ll give you props for it along with the other people that you got your ideas from thanks man
Great execution. I imagine it will be pretty convincing in the yard at night. I've been wanting to make one combined with a fog chiller so it will look like smoke is coming from it and spreading across the ground, but my front yard is tiny so I would never use it. Thanks.
Your fire pit looks awesome. I need to make a cauldron and I have a tripod. Carving pumpkins tomorrow. Then I will work on the cauldron and other projects. Happy Halloween
Lol I don’t know I’ll have to grab the cans and look. Carries teacher wanted a fire pit for the first two weeks of school. I told her if she donated the spray foam I’d make it.. so I just used what she brought me!! Lol
Not sure with black foam, it may make it harder for the lights to shine through but honestly I don’t know. The can’t even get black spray foam around here to test it with
Like the mix of ideas, looks great. I agree about the flicking lights. In Australia solar ones are great as don't need to run cords everywhere. But rarely found in orange or flickering despite the recent growth in celebrating Halloween. I need to update the fire under my cauldron so will definitely be stealing most of your idea! Thanks
So sorry but I'm back with another question 🙈 when you started dry brushing on the Grey and White paint did you use a certain technique to paint ? Or a certain type and size of Paint Brush? For some reason my dry brushing isn't turning out to look nearly as good or as real as yours🤦🏼♀️😩
No special size brush.. I think it was like just a 1inch chip brush. But the secret to dry brushing, is to get most of the paint off the brush before you apply it to your piece. Then it’s really just a spar attic slapping motion almost, if that makes sense
@@UnhingedProductions1 That makes perfect sense. Now I realize that there's an actual kinda method/technique to dry brushing if you will. The brushes I bought are 1" chip brushes so I will go out here in a bit and try again. I definitely wasn't getting most of the paint off the brush before applying, so that tip I'm sure will help a ton. Thank you so much for always taking the time to answer questions and help out. I wish more of the content creators and channels were as responsive and helpful as you. It's TRULY appreciated!!
@@UnhingedProductions1 I finally finished mine and I absolutely LOVE it! I wish I was able to upload a picture here to show the final product but unfortunately I can't. I just wanted to come say thank you again so much for all your help !!
That is debatable, some say spray foam is super flammable, however i've watched people put a flame to it, it starts to burn and when the flame is removed the flame goes out. That being said anything you make you can spray with a fire retardant and you will be good to go. I've been haunting my home for over 30years and never had a problem with spray foam catching fire.
howdy love your videos going to try this next for my halloween display i do have a question i thought i was update on your videos but i cant find the little burlap scarecrow that is seating behind you in the corner hes been seating there for sometime. im i being a dork and not finding it or you didnt make one . could you let me know please keep up the awesome work
That's 100% what I wanted to see!! I am planning a three witches-round-a-cauldron scene in my front yard for Halloween (I know, I know - it's only March😂)
Great job of combining two other artists to create your own piece. Another youtuber you might want to check is Stiltbeast for his use of spray foam and pool noodles. Thank you for inspiring me

The lights appear to glow well enough through the pool noodles and spray foam in the build so you should be OK

This is so entertaining , 🤣 what great editing. Also love the fire pit idea. Another great video 🤩

Did you use spray paint for the black?
Yes

My Dude, what an amazing red glow!!! I love the idea of bones and skulls in the mix. What spray foam did you use?😊
Lol I don’t know I’ll have to grab the cans and look. Carries teacher wanted a fire pit for the first two weeks of school. I told her if she donated the spray foam I’d make it.. so I just used what she brought me!! Lol
Did you spray paint it black first before you added the gray and white dry brushing?
Or was the black brushed on as well?
I sprayed it with black spray paint. The spray foam will hold up to spray paint
Thanks! Great work!! Yours is the best example of the smoldering look I’ve seen!
Is it always the "regular" foam or what happens if you use black foam?
Not sure with black foam, it may make it harder for the lights to shine through but honestly I don’t know. The can’t even get black spray foam around here to test it with
