I remember this story of when this game dropped and some of the programmers had to seek therapy after making this game for symptoms of PTSD. Those programmers traumatized THEMSELVES for our entertainment. That’s dedication.
I don't know whether to admire them for their dedication or feel sorry for them for requiring therapy.

I recommend looking into the story of this game if you want a good idea as to whats going on for the fatalities. Shang Tsung's second fatality shows him actually resurrecting kintaro, one of Shao Kahn's (late and former) Mortal Kombat Champions
Also, friendships were a thing they introduced in mk2 in response to the angry politicians and parents not liking fatalities
I JUST did the MK11 story for the first time and I'm glad I did! I especially loved getting to choose who to play as in certain parts. I played Injustice for years but only recently got into Mortal Kombat like a year ago but I'm loving it so far! I've only did X and above, none of the old ones haha

And now in MK1 we have Homelander, Peacemaker and Omni-Man! Man, i love MK's DLC Characters, it's always a great selection of characters from one theme
The reason a lot of these characters don't look quite right is because they're using alternate costumes that change their primary colors or change them into alternate versions of themselves who may be evil or zombies or evil zombies.
Thing is that revenant Liu Kang, Kitana, Kung Lao and Jade are canon in MK11 so those are the base skins. And red thunder Raiden is also the base skin, since he turned evil at the end of MKX.

You may not know this but Noob Saibot (portal guy) is named after the last names of the two original creators of the series spelled backwards. Ed Boon (Noob) and John Tobias (Siabot). 👍👍😆

Fun Fact: Raiden's red lightning is due to the corruption of his soul after wearing the Shinnok amulet in Mortal Kombat X. He's also been corrupted in the past but due to time travel shenanigans he tried to prevent said previous corruption. And now my head hurts lol
The thing with mortal kombat is that when it comes to guest characters they love to get creative on who’s in the roster they added robocop, Rambo, terminator, freedy Kruger, Jason voorhess, leather face, alien, and ever predator

Fr, the skipped Fatality is Imo one of the best in the game with his shadow emerging out of the opponents body. It is kinda like Shang Tsungs, where a Shokan rips the enemy apart but your own shadow doing that is just more epic ngl

Totally recommend watching fatalities from the first Mortal Kombat onward, gives you context of who's an older character, see when ones you might recognize are introduced, where certain quirks/references like ripping the head and spine out come from, all that good stuff.
Sindel had her debut all the way back in Mortal Kombat 3 in arcades and consoles like the Sega Genesis and SNES and had appeared in other games before this one.
Shang Tsung was the final boss in the first Mortal Kombat and his design in this game is based off of the actor who played him in the first Mortal Kombat movie, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. He even got him to do the voice for the character.

The phrase is "Brothers in arms" and yes, Bo'Rai Cho trained both Liu Kang and Kung Lao.

I forgot when this was said in an interview but Ed Boon did say that some of the Fatalities, at least for MK 1, had to be balanced between over the top gore and absolutely absurd to ridiculous levels. I think he did say that there are some things they can’t make and there are “some” levels of restraint, if there are any, that they have to follow. I know that in MK 9 the dlc character Skarlet got NRS in some hot water because her fatalities included bathing in her opponents blood which is part of her character but also really pushed the envelope back then.
That makes SO much sense, because I reacted to the MK1 fatalities and they felt a LOT more comedic even though they were still gory. A good way to balance it out! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the Fatalities for MK1 because some of them surprisingly gave me a good laugh
@@ChocolateKieran that was also mentioned in the same interview, the devs were also said to be laughing more at the result than feeling grossed out and it shows.
So the video you watch actually forgot one, Noob Saibot has two like everyone else, and his second one is one of the most brutal ones in this game.

You missed the other Noob Saibot fatality.
In the second Rambo fatality they didn't get electrocuted in half. Rambo put ammo around their waist and then kicked them into the electricity. The belt had so much ammo and it all went off at the same time so it sawed through the opponent

I read that Kano was originally born in America but raised in Japan, and the accent in the '95 film was supposed to be Cockney English but pretty much everyone heard it as Aussie instead.

That's how a fair few characters first started out. A simple recolour of Sub Zero or Scorpion just with different moves and over the year, they started gaining their own personality styles and designs. For example. Looking at Rain now, you wouldn't think of him as a purple Recolour of the Klassic MK Ninjas.

as a long time mk fan i love seeing first reactions to the games, its funny as hell seeing them react to johnny cage and the other wild ones!
For more DLC shenanigans, just know that Omni-man, Homelander, and Peacekeeper were all confirmed characters in the new MK game.
Another thing to help clarify some of these characters, a lot of them can be grouped into several categories based on when they debut and from the era they were in like the arcade era, the 3D era, and the modern era. The classic arcade era is easy because they're associated with their uprising like killing your opponents after the fight is over and doing crazy ideas that range from amazing effects for the time or funny ideas that made no sense (the concept of killing your opponents expanded into Brutalities which required a multi button input for your character to beat up your opponents until they literally blew up, animalities where you transformed into an animal to kill/maul your opponent, Friendships which was a response to the violence backlash and the dev's way of having fun, and Babalities where you just humiliate your opponents by changing them into literal toddlers to just cry), the 3D era characters were the unique and experimental bunch when MK tried to convert from 2D arcade games with real life character sprites into 3D models (a mix of both good and bad ideas that came with hidden gems and poor decisions to help establish what worked and what didn't work), and the modern era/modern era/ NRS reboot are the modern games where Nether Realm Studios started their company and took the series back to their roots with new ideas and new events (usually relying on nostalgia but also respecting their past entries with more experimental ideas that branched out into new directions such as changing the future and fleshing out past characters to give them more depth and identities).

They rather infamously had to study actual people's deaths from car crashes, burnings, and so on, so much that a vast majority of the animation team got PTSD from the process. It was a huge controversy when the game got released, and IMHO the fatalities weren't worth it. Yeah they're brutal and over the top, but the vast majority of them don't have that tongue in cheek quality that previous MK games had. Most of the previous games had one or two that were painful to watch, this one is the vast majority.

Fujin is Raiden's younger brother, Rambo, The Terminator, Robocop, The Joker a.s.o are DLC Kombat Pack characters you can buy optionally. You should see the content of the Kombat Pack 1 for Mortal Kombat 1. ;)
