Conor! Be careful man cutting on your lap like that! Imagine a slip! Anyway, great squash. I might have a go at this one next year.

Thanks Dan! In hindsight it wasn't the cleverest or safest idea! Yeah it's a nice squash, very dense flesh but nutty and sweet.

Hi handsome... OK here is some tips for you when you cook squashes like this one. In Chinese cuisine, we usually cut off the outer tough skin but try leave an itty bit of that green inner layer on the fruit. When you stir fry it or bake it, that softer green inner layer actually makes the whole fruit taste so much better added buttery and nutty taste. Stir fry with any other veges or make a batter with bread crumbs and deep fry them just as snacks. My goodness, the taste is heavenly.

I grew Crow Prince for the first time this year as well, very impressed with them, also grew Honeyboat Squash which I'd reccomend.

I also grew them for the first time this year, but I grew them from the seed of a Crown Prince that I had been given by a commercial grower so I was hoping that there had been no cross pollination, anyway of the 3 plants we have harvested 4-5 from each and tonight we will open and try one!

That's awesome, let us know if it still turned out ok, despite not being the F1 seed. 🙌🌿

You could try Boers White, it’s similar in that it’s a flat paler squash but isn’t an F1 so seeds saved come true if you only grow one type of squash. I’ve also grown sharks fin melon which is a squash not a melon - doesn’t taste of much, more like a cucumber or courgette in flavour but produces loads of edible leaves and shoots as well as several fruits per plant and is good in soup or apparently you can juice it and ferment the juice in an alcoholic drink.

I grew Crown Prince for the first time this year too. Mine grew in the floor, after harvesting them I found out they are super heavy for their size. I’m amazed they can stay on the plant without breaking off. I grew Red Kuri squash last year which were very very nice, I heard these are supposed to be better so can’t wait to try one. I wasn’t aware that I can’t plant the seeds from it though so thanks for that info 👍🏼😉

You can grow seeds from a F1 hybrid. While the fruit will not be exactly like the original, the Crown Prince, it might still be a great squash that is similar. If you have your own seed, why not try it?

Crown prince squash are better in soups, they are meaty and hold their shape. I have been growing them for a few years now, this year i got 7 Squashes from two plants ranging from 5 to 11lbs.I will be saving my seeds for next year.

Does it taste more like pumpkin?

@_Kelly3125 I've not actually had pumpkin on its own. Tasted like a dense squash, though this was many years ago now so I can't quite remember!
