- Ger Duany woke up one morning to gunshots that eventually led to his becoming one of the “Lost Boys of Sudan”, a child soldier, refugee, then US high school student, basketball player and actor. Now a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for the East and Horn of Africa region, he talks about his harrowing journey and feelings of hope and why investing in the future of refugees is the right and the smart thing to do.
Ger Duany is internationally known as a model and actor. He recently starred in the film The Good Lie, which tells the story of 3 refugees struggling to integrate as they resettle to the United States. In 2015, he was appointed UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for he East and Horn of Africa region.

I went to high school with Ger. I don't think he spoke much English then but I always remembered his beautiful smile and his kind eyes and of course in Indiana his family has some exceptional basketball skill. Such and inspiration and he has a divine calling.
Something about his features that brings me joy and comfort. His smooth dark skin, the sharp facial features and the bright white teeth with a standard south Sudanese beauty gap make my heart flutter.
He is beautiful...and I think part of his beauty...is his love...respect...and humble trust in God...(in spite of everything...).

Nowadays, lots of people are just completely against the accepting of refugees. They don‘t see the human in them. I hope your story did help them to understand, how things are. And led them to be more merciful. 🙏🏻

The bravery and conviction of people
So inspiration story that we can learn from, Ger. I experienced it. Life was too tough out there in the refugee camp and surviving from war to become a lost boy. I also lived in the refugee camp, Dadaab as well. I got an opportunity like you and I would like to represent my life story one day.
Thank God that you survived! I’ve been following the stories of the lost boys, including John Dau-I’m very thankful that you made it to the US, and my heart breaks for those who did not. No child should ever have to endure what happened to you. May the Lord bless you. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I was five years old when somali war broke out I was home in Mogadishu I remember when my mum shouted my our names and sounds of bullets after that day we went 6 months journey with hunger and fear so yes I related to you

He has done some modeling and also some acting. Not that long ago he was in the movie "The Good Lie" with Reese Witherspoon. Great movie! I had the good fortune to meet him at a wedding about 10 years ago. The little 5 yo girl I was watching took off running across the church parking lot and Ger scooped her up and brought her back. I took pictures of Ger holding Angeer because he was so cute playing with her.

Are we immigration to Canada 2?
We are very sad to say that we live in Canada only in the name of citizenship. Here, there are several levels of constitution. There is only freedom speech in the name of the constitution. Canadians are worth Irish, Scottish then there are French then there is then Chinese then the value of any man in the lower level then here it is on the street. Distinct? Temporary refuge! I was brought with the permanent residency of the revelation. Died on the street street. I am a Canadian citizen, who has survived only in the cage. as good as this is for one guy. The reality is their are millions who don't do anything for the west and should not be let in as citizens. One story is not going to change anything.
