Rakim was before my time, I'm 29. But as a hip hop head I had to go back and see what folks was talking about, hearing his music and understanding that he was one of the first to do what he does so well in terms of rhyme schemes and flows, I instantly became a fan. I understand why he is regarded as the god MC garnering respect from even West Coast and South Legends. I still bump paid in full and I ain't no joke like it just came out lmfao. Don't count us youngins out, although we weren't able to experience the impact, some of us can see it, even in the rappers of today who were clearly inspired by the God 🙏
Ill part about it he was a teenager that revolutionized the culture. He set the bar high..that's why he's your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. He shifted a whole consciousness sprinkling Godbody speech in his raps. Cause he wasn't the first but he was just that dude that pushed the spotlight and interest level up 1000%. Gotta give him his roses now.

Preem didn't hesitate to not only thank Rakim for his years of excellence and continued masterful skills but he also told Ra he was his all time favorite of every Emcee he ever worked with. What I love about Let The Rhythm Hit Em, Ra was able to branch out and tell more stories and broaden his subject matter while still giving bars and flow while dominating lyrically.
I was lucky enough to see Rakim a couple years ago, House of Blues in San Diego. What an awesome performance! I’d like to thank Marley Marl and Magic on WBLS for introducing Rakim and Eric B to me with “As the Rhyme Goes On.” I was hooked ever since!

I was more a Big Daddy Kane fan at that time. He was ahead of his time as well. I thought his flow was even more effortless than Rakim's, personally.
