Anything between -5 and -10 is plenty to preserve food. Most canning items have liquids, so it's less air to be removed, so yes -5 is enough of a vacuum to preserve food
Okay, so -5 bar is sufficient to vacuum seal a mason jar for food preservation. You have to understand that the mason jars are intended to be filled all the way up to just below the rim, so there's very little air to begin with remaining in the jar when you preserve food. The intended purpose of this vacuum sealer is to remove a very small volume of air, and you're doing tests with a relatively much higher volume in comparison to the intended use.
Fun fact, putting food in cans for storage and transporting is actually older technology than putting it in glass jars. The Roman army used tin cans (actual tin, not plated steel). It's part of what made their logistics so much better than everyone else's.
I have the little green vacuum, if you hold the hose closer and scrub while your spraying, it won’t be as wide. I also use oxy clean dissolved in water instead of the cleaner it comes with and it works on carpet stains really well, less scrubbing.
@@elliotalderson4568 Hi Elliot. I have the same model. It does not truly heat but instead helps maintain the clean water temperature totally in the background. There's no manual control. No button or switch. It will not heat the water above the temp it came out of the tap. You still need to add the hottest tap water possible to take advantage of the feature. I hope this helps.
Tyler ruined a pricless piece of art with the Bissel. The marshmallow first expands under vacuum as its internalized atmosphere escapes, and then shrinks again. Releasing the vacuum allows the air pressure to further compress the marshmallow. Fun experiment.
So from what I know about canning and vacuum sealing food. That device isnt really meant for 'long term' or permanent storage like you would use for preserving food. Its made more for making your food last a little longer than normal. Its basically a 'vacuum sealer' but for Jars. As long as you know that before using it, its a pretty good product. Just dont expect what you put in it to last for years. Just Months.
It helps in a couple ways. First, it seals the jar, keeping humidity and oxygen out. A little O2 in a jar won't do much, but a free exchange of air will provide enough O2 over time to let things go stale/rancid. Any sealed container does this, but a jar is very good at maintaining the seal over a long time. Reducing the amount of air inside is a small but real improvement over typical Tupperware.
I bought one of those Grandpa's weeders for my Mom who has a back injury. Takes a couple min to get used to, but the thing actually works really great, for all types of weeds. Especially helpful for people with injuries etc. that bending down over and over is difficult for.
It's enough for canning bc canning isn't the same as vacuum sealing. Canning almost always includes liquid, so the gadget has very little air to remove.
That gadget is only used to keep food fresh. It should not be used for canning food like green beans for instance. Canning requires sterilization of the Mason jars in boiling water with the food inside the jars. As the jars cool down with the lids on the vacuum is created.
Canning requires heat to kill the bacteria and make the food inside shelf stable the temperature required varies for different foods This is just for making things stay fresh longer in the fridge or freezer or for dry goods like rice ir beans
If I'm not mistaken it's the boiling process that makes the canning last so long as it kills off all the bacteria and the sealing process is to confirm it's sealed.
both. Boiling will kill the bacteria that are there, but the seal will prevent any new bacteria entering. Technically that old boiling technique is also there to help with vacuum, as bottles are closed right after they are filled and then they should be slowly cooled down (to prevent glass shattering). So that cooling down of the liquid part will make the weak vacuum and finish off the proper sealing process (the covers will slightly bend inwards).
11:10 No, you are correct. Putting a Marshmallow in a vacuum chamber does make them expand. If you watch the video, it did double in size but then quickly shrunk again.
@@AtomSquirrel Oh I see what you mean LOL I had no clue what he was talking about, it seemed completely unrelated. And yes, that story, if it was an actual 'car fire', is definitely fake.

Tyler, love your videos man, always entertaining. The marshmallow… the canning vacuum was probably a little under powered but it did puff up the marshmallow a little. The vacuum chamber actually extracted the trapped air in the marshmallow which is why it shrunk when restored to STP. It lost its small air bubbles puffing it up. Was cool to see.
I like the weed puller. If the dandelion is large it works better. It will pull a big dandelion out of the ground roots and all. Usually the weight and moving the handle will drop the dandelion to the ground. We've done hundreds of dandelions using it. The Stanley cup works great. Ice stays solid the whole day.
I’d say the auger shovel shovel is geared toward looser dirt and the gardening community. Looks about the size of a solo cup which a lot of people start seedlings in
With canning i believe I was told you fill the jar as much as possible the less air the better the hold and the longer shelf life. I believe the lid just gets pulled enough to pull it to the lid
I use a similar vacuum sealer to seal all my dry goods in jars like rice, beans, pasta. We have pantry moths where I live and they will eat through packages and lay their eggs inside so a vacuum sealed jar prevents that. Also good for flour and cornmeal.
You don't need a vacuum for preservation... the heat of the canning process does that. It also blows air out of the jar as it expands, leaving reduced pressure inside when it cools. This is only important as a confirmation that the jar is sealed from outside contamination.
Tyler, any negative vacuum IS a full vacuum 😂 it pulls the perfect amount to preserve food and also it pulls that amount so if you do store something like marshmallows they won’t shrink down. Btw my grandpas an engineer and he taught about all this. Thanks Tyler!
I think it's great that Tyler refuses to read the manual, that way when he tests the product we all can see how accessible the product is for the target group that's being sold to. It really shows how accessible is the product and how well was it engineered. Keep up the good work!
I used a chamber vacuum sealer with a mason jar attachment to vacuum seal jars full of rice, coffee, etc. It is great for keeping dry goods fresh for longer. Also, it is awesome for doing marinades for meat or veggies.
I have one of the weeder tools that is like 60-65 years old. The only difference I can see is that the lever is different than the one you bought. It would remove dandelions somewhat, but almost always broke the root off, so the dandelion would grow back. This was in clay soil. In sandy or loam soil it might work better, but I always thought it was a gimmick.
Same. I have an old one from my grampa. Never tried it on dandelions, though. I use it on thissles, and it works great. Always assumed dandelions were to small
I have the little green machine, just a tip I don't use the cleaning solution in the water tank, I use the cleaner mixed in a seperate spray bottle, depending on the stain I'll use a stronger cleaner (folex). Also don't add too much cleaner it leaves a residue if you dont rinse properly, so rinse with plain water a few times until you get most of the water up. Make sure you rinse out the dirty water container and let everything airdry before putting it away.
Best advise ever from this channel :). Leave the dandelions. They are both dandy and lions. Nature's best friend - pretty - all is edible - children love them - bees love them, butterflies love them.
The reason the vacuum sealer doesn't pull a full vacuum is pretty simple, and you'll see why if you put water in there. If you put water in a full vacuum, it will boil - until enough vapor has been created to bring the boiling point of water high enough again (i.e. it will increase the pressure). With mostly liquid in there, creating a full vacuum is impossible. The liquid will just keep evaporating to keep it at an equilibrium anyway.
I never thought a Stanley cup review would be the most entertaining part of the video 😂 wish we could’ve seen you trying to get the cup out of the fire lol
As long as the Jar is sealed, and it was, your food is very safe! The food in a jar that is canned regularly also doesn't change. Of course I'm not sure anyone would seal marshmallows in a jar.
My grandma has had a Bissel “Green Machine” for over 20 years! The thing comes in super handy. I’ve never had to buy one for myself because I just borrow hers.
This is actually the best way to use a product. It's weird how so few people don't understand that you should let something soak scrub and then you start spraying and giving her.
Protip for any carpet cleaner/shampooer; after you're done using it, be sure to fill the clean water tank with just water, the run the nozzle for a bit to get all the shampoo out of the system. The shampoo they use can be kinda corrosive over time and will gunk up the lines inside the cleaner
Carpet cleaning -> should try to set a baseline somehow -> maybe see if its any better than just spraying off the mats at a self service car wash and then vacuuming them dry. The car wash works very well when you hang the mats on the wall clips/hooks and power wash them, plus you don't have to deal with tanks of nasty water when you're done.
Every video, there’s bound to be at least one comment that calls tyler out for not reading instructions but when you think about it, unless you need to build it and it’s simple afterwards, you shouldn’t really need instructions. If I personally had 15 steps of setup before each use of the product, I’m not gonna use it after the first week or two. Keep up the good work tyler, you’re doing alright
The moment I saw you pull that vacuum out I knew you would be impressed. It's a beast. I used it all the time. It lasted me like 7 years before I left it behind in a move. It probably would have lasted a lot more years.
For the marshmallow thing you need to fill half the jar. You will notice the difference. IIf you're canning, the items put in the jar are warm/hot. Pulling a small vacuum with the canning sealer, it will increase the vacuum as the item cools.
Don't those pressure gauges work off of differential pressure..... (dp)? I don't think you can get an accurate reading like that....please correct me if I'm wrong engineers!
I expected to see no reading at all, since both sides would be at the same pressure. Apparently that’s not how these gauges work after all. It must be sealed and reads relative to about 15 psi.
One thing about those Bissell carpet cleaners: don't bother with the brush on the attachment. Use a drill brush instead. Works wonders. If you watch professional detailers on TH-cam, if they use one of those, that's what they do. In fact, they often don't even bother with the sprayer in the machine and just use a standalone one instead.
Might I remind you that certain holidays can influence Amazon’s top five sellers. To make it a fair test, you would need to monitor the top five sellers for a year, and then pick the most frequent top fives to test.
I have an older little green cleaner and I used it to clean the interior of my old minivan. Did the seats, the floor, and the headliner. Let's just say the van no longer smells like something decided to move in. Great for seats and what not.
Air tight seal isn’t the same as a low atmosphere vacuum. When you can food you’re not pulling a vacuum. Just an air tight seal. That’s why they never implode.
I worked at an auto detail place. If you want Clean new like floor mats, use any kind of degreaser, spray it down, and pressure wash it. We used mean green or something like that and a pressure washer then hung it up and dry it with air compressor. You'd be amazed what will come out.
The canning guy isn’t supposed to be a full vacuum. It’s like the food saver bags, where you pull the moisture out of the air and preserve food better. That’s why you can keep a jar of canned greenbeans and a vacuum sealed steak for years in the freezer rather than a few weeks in the fridge
Lemme ask you this about canning. When was the last time you had to use a can opener to get that lid off? When you open any jar from the store, when we're you worried about the jar imploding? That seems to be plenty adequate.
I have an auger set for my drill... it works great for planting small plants quickly. But that crappy motor has no power and the scoop seems to just get in the way
On the box it says track maintenance, camp site and whatever it says about fire pits. If it's just for flower beds, it shouldn't promise all that stuff.
I am not sure about the pressure sealer. But most of the time you feel them as full as possible. That would leave very little air. So it is possible it would seal enough. Also doesn’t it come with the screw on part not just the suction lid?
The electric vacuum sealer worked only you needed to let it work for 5-10 minutes in order to properly make the marshmallow inflate or get big. You can see the marshmallow deflates when you removed the lid.
I mean usually when youre canning, the container would have a lot less air in it because thered presumably be stuff in there. Not sure if that would affect the performance of that vacuum sealer?
Btw, if you have a jar full of liquid or whatever, you don’t need to evacuate as much gas. You have the marshmallow in a large empty jar. Also, you can clearly see the marshmallow shrink when you let the air back in.

I can attest to the amazingness of the Bissell... I got one and LOVE it.. But, I've only used it once.. hahaha!
I have an older little green cleaner and I used it to clean the interior of my old minivan. Did the seats, the floor, and the headliner. Let's just say the van no longer smells like something decided to move in. Great for seats and what not.
Keep going man! Screw those four wheeler or motorcycle guys! You got this!
Air tight seal isn’t the same as a low atmosphere vacuum. When you can food you’re not pulling a vacuum. Just an air tight seal. That’s why they never implode.
Been using that Bissell cleaner for years and it works amazing when you have pets that make a mess
I prefer the rotating brush standalone models that allow you to walk away and let it self clean for 5 mins.
I worked at an auto detail place. If you want Clean new like floor mats, use any kind of degreaser, spray it down, and pressure wash it. We used mean green or something like that and a pressure washer then hung it up and dry it with air compressor. You'd be amazed what will come out.
I'm guessing the vacuum sealer is a best seller for potheads trying to keep their dope fresh longer😂
The gramps weeder is amazing once you get used to it
I have an auger set for my drill... it works great for planting small plants quickly.
But that crappy motor has no power and the scoop seems to just get in the way
9:47... nothing happens to the marshmellow! 🤣
the electric shovel is likely made for flower beds which are less dense than your lawn
Absolutely!!
On the box it says track maintenance, camp site and whatever it says about fire pits. If it's just for flower beds, it shouldn't promise all that stuff.
Yea I that’s what I was just thinking
I am not sure about the pressure sealer. But most of the time you feel them as full as possible. That would leave very little air. So it is possible it would seal enough. Also doesn’t it come with the screw on part not just the suction lid?
We use the Little Green Clean Machine for kids vomit, kids spills, and pets messes. Quick and easy clean up.
Tyler should use that dandelion to make some dandelion tea, it’s really good stuff!
Btw, if you have a jar full of liquid or whatever, you don’t need to evacuate as much gas. You have the marshmallow in a large empty jar. Also, you can clearly see the marshmallow shrink when you let the air back in.
