    Thanks for helping me to break my one day resolution to stop buying gear, ha. Yesterday I logged out of my Amazon account and I swore up and down I wouldn't buy anything more. Well that didn't work. As soon as I saw this knife I went directly to Amazon and they had one in their warehouse deal for $45 Canadian and it had my name on it for some mysterious reason. I didn't even watch your entire review. I paused it 60 seconds in that's all I could take and I had to log into Amazon again so now it's on the way. Okay now I'm back to watch the whole review

    Mine arrived today. As with every Schrade/OT I've gotten from Amazon in this last year, the leather sheath has been SO Desiccated that it MUST be treated unless it crumble into dust. 2 hours soaked in WD-40 then bathed in a nice Silicon Rem-Oil spray. Even after restoring the leather, the top of the belt loop cracked when stressed as it would be on a belt. These things must have been sitting in a FROZEN foods warehouse for months! Even shipped in a sealed plastic bag...
    The Knife: I Love it! Nice and heavy! I have meat paws not hands. My wife with her normal lollipop gang sized miniaturized digits, thinks the handle is way too big for her. No Problem, She gets the Capybara, that's made for miniaturized people anyway.
    While it's not Movie Big - It is big enough to do the old, "That's not a Knife, THIS is a Knife!" routine, when your TH-cam addicted buddies go camping, and they are drunkenly showing off all their Stupid BushCraft Tricks...
    And NO - It's no longer a bargain on Amazon. It WAS $50 a month ago, It's now $60. Fair Price, but not a bargain.

    • @CommonCentsOutdoorsman
      @CommonCentsOutdoorsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh man sorry about the sheath. I've had a few come this way also but got lucky on this one. I use Snow Seal since the eighties. It has no negative effects on leather. It's mostly bees wax. Glad you like the knife!

    • @KandaJE
      @KandaJE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CommonCentsOutdoorsman Actually the sheath looks really sweet now! Soaking in WD-40 and 3in1 with a Silicon Rem-oil spray, really makes it a nice darkened chestnut.
      I used to use the boot leather 'Bee's Wax' routine, decades ago, but wasn't satisfied. I found that it really needed to be re-applied many times per season (hunting). So yeah, I tried the WD-40 + 3in1 oil combo, then a light spritz of Silicone sealer (rem-oil). Actually a Gun oil made for long storage. And after 20+ years it's proven it's worth! Never have to redo the sheath, just hose the blade down insert it wet in the sheath, toss it on the shelf until next season, and you are set! I have not encountered any problems yet. I'm in a rather dry environment where potato chips are fresher when you leave the bag open over night - So a hard oil treatment lasts a lot longer than a wax treatment...
      Of course, your mileage may vary!

      @Wildwestwrangler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One on the way. Saw it pop up not too long ago, but never any reviews (written or video) until finding yours. Will see, but the sheath is probably gonna get a replacement, I think. Looks like a lot packed into that price point, though!

      @@CommonCentsOutdoorsman Came in yesterday. Just, awesome! This blade provides a lot for the price (I paid $55.41 from Amazon), and is very good looking. Sheath isn't perfect, but I didn't expect it to be (stitching pattern seemed to follow the right lines, but the leather on one edge by the point was cut short, leaving barely any leather between a couple of the stitches and the edge of the leather. Probably would rip after a little use). Like I sorta alluded to in my original comment, though - I didn't buy it for the sheath.
      I liked it so much, I ordered the last one that was currently in stock at Amazon to be one of my dad's Christmas presents (luckily he doesn't get on TH-cam, much, so should stay a secret lol).
      Amazon says there's more on the way, though, so I'm just as perplexed as you as to why the knife still isn't on the Old Timer website. All I can think of is maybe it's a test run to see how well they sell. If you ask me, it's nice to see maybe they've gone back to their Old Timer roots for this one (I don't really like the Old Timers that, unfortunately, have the Schrade name all over - I don't know the whole history about that, but didn't like the looks of the knives coming out at the time). BTW, AOB is American Outdoor Brands, which seems to have bought both the Schrade and Old Timer brands. Maybe this is a good thing? I haven't really followed the brand much for several years.
      Thanks for the good review! I will check out your next one when it drops. When I start getting some use out of this knife, I'll post back if I remember to do it.

    • @sovereignconfluence5971
      @sovereignconfluence5971 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started thinking about the Schrade/Old Timer mashup a bit more...did Schrade always own the Old Timer brand, but started putting their name all over the knives and become bland looking later on? When I was a lot younger, it seems I remember Old Timer being a single, separate brand with a more classic look as far as handle material goes; but this is for reasons that may have just been my assumption back then - I couldn't find any good info on the web about it.
      Excuse my slightly getting off subject; just made me more curious, now that I brought it up in my last comment...

      @@sovereignconfluence5971 glad you like it! Ha I need new glasses lol looked like A08 to me. Yeah these Shcrade brand knives have switched around a few times lately so who knows. They don't seem to put out much info but maybe the brand will make a comeback.
