From what I can tell from your videos, you are a very genuine and kind individual. It is a great thing you’re doing sharing your knowledge and even your figs with others. The starter bundle would be an amazing gift for those starting out in the hobby and people should be aware that it is a lot of work for you. Time is precious and you are taking the time to prep the “sticks” for shipping, packing and mailing out. Even communicating/socializing is time consuming. Not everyone is willing to go that extra mile, so thank you, for being a bright light and sharing kindness with others. It is so funny that you call the fig cuttings “sticks” because that is exactly what my parents called the cuttings I bought when they saw me trying to propagate them. They asked why I was trying to grow sticks! 😂This year I’m planting a bunch of fruit trees in my garden and decided to add a few good fig varieties to the mix. I know from my own buying experience recently that the starter bundle you plan on giving for free is valued at $100+. I understand your hesitation in selling “sticks” because I don’t know if I can do it either if my figs flourish. However, there is nothing wrong either with you selling your cuttings on figbid like others are doing. You should have no guilt on selling “sticks” because someone like me would have happily bought from you than an unknown seller on figbid. Maybe you can start with a small “bundle” pack on figbid and just like you are doing now, throw a few extra cuttings of the common varieties in. I appreciate when sellers have bundle packs or throw in a few extra cuttings because it gives me opportunity to trial and error. So far only RDB hasn’t propagated for me, lol, so if you do decide to sell, I would happily order from you than someone unknown from figbid again! Long comment! I usually watch videos to learn and don’t comment but I could see how genuine you are. I wish you the best in your TH-cam journey (get it monetize!) and good luck with your fig journey.
@@basementfigs Please do not go through any trouble! I am in no rush and would happily buy them if you have any next year. I already have a few varieties and to be honest, I don’t even know if I like figs 😂. Never tasted one before lol and don’t want store bought ones to be the first experience. I just wanted to start my fruit growing journey with a variety of fruits. Hope you are doing well and stay safe in your work travels!
You are very generous man!! No one else does it. Donations are a way to appreciate your passion and intention. Continue the good work of sharing your knowledge and ideas. As a novice figger, I have learnt a lot and wish you had a series where you take one cutting and share it’s journey to fruiting over the entire year😊
Thanks for the kind words and watching… Maybe I’ll come out of the cutting retirement and do that series… try to grow a cutting and show you can grow amazing fruit the first year… maybe… just maybe… don’t hold your breathe though… LOL
Thank you so much for teaching us, helping us & trusting us with your precious cuttings!! I can’t wait to get mine!! I hope everybody that get some send you a check to reimburse you for the shipping & hopefully add a donation!! I know is a sacrifice on your part because you have a beautiful growing family!! Be blessed!! Love and admiration from Kentucky!! 🙌🏻🤗🙏🏻🫶🏻🇺🇸
Yes definitely more vlogs like this. It's inspiring to see how much you give to the community. not just in lost profit but the time, labor and the mental stress of dealing with dozens of messages at a time I bet and organizing the packages themselves. Thank you Homer
Heck yeah Homer. This has to be among the best fig videos I’ve seen. You are a good person. Do you know Lou Monte fig guy from Jersey? I absolutely love him, and this topic gets him fired up - for good reason. He’s never sold a fig cutting in over 40 years. Just gives them away. And me too but mine is only 4 years. We need more people like you in the world. Keep up passing forward those good energies brotha. You’re an inspiration to the world. To what we need more of in the world. I’m honored to share universal energies with you brotha!!!!
There are people who still have a Chicago Hardy tree from you. :) I did an awful job starting those dozen cuttings that you sent to me, but had some success and then I trimmed off extra "branches" on the started cuttings and was pretty good at rooting those. For a while I had quite a few! And then I gave quite a few of those Chicago Hardy fig trees away to my friends. Then I had one left for myself and unfortunately I managed to kill it over last winter. I have a lot of figs in pots, now, of all sorts of different varieties. That batch of Chicago Hardy cuttings that you sent to me allowed me to learn so much and I wanted to let you know how much I really appreciated your generosity, and say thank you again.
You are a wonderful asset to the Fig Community, my friend. "The LORD loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
I have a couple of Smith fig plants that I got from cuttings in the spring. Growing well and have some figlets that won’t ripen this year. Next year I will taste Smith for the first time!!🎉
Great informative video. I just started getting into figs in February when I was giving away my landscape rocks to those who needed it & a guy gave me a Chicago Hardy stick in a pot. I started researching them & started buying a couple. Had my first half of a fig with my wife & it was off a Kadota I bought. I lost 4 figs during the summer... too hot. Hoping to learn how to grow them better like you & I've been removing all my rock landscape to change it into a food landscape. Loved your video of you training your Figs, they looked Amazing & your Twins tasting the Figs with you. Had to have my son & wife come watch it with me again, Awesome twins, so polite. As far as Shipping, ShippingEasy is a great Shipping company to ship with & cheaper than USPS prices. The Large Flat Rate Bubble mailer the USPS has fits a lot more than the document mailer you used. You can order FREE USPS supplies on their website & it ships to your house free. Not sure if you want to do this, since you hate Cutting season 😁, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure I'll have more questions. Happy ThanksGiving Sincerely, Matthew Matthew's Fabrication, LLC
Homer wow! That is a lot of cuttings you mailed. You have such a good heart and it's very appreciative. I was getting ready to contact you because I hadn't heard back from the email since I don't do Facebook but I can imagine the pressure and sense of overwhelming this must be. No worries from me about anything. Good descriptions of figs for beginners, I'll be checking into them. Enjoy your content especially your pruning videos and everything you do. I would be interested in a bundle if any are left. Best wishes.
I live in Bakersfield, California, California. I am new to growing figs failed so many times, but I found a gentleman in Fresno pro figs that sells baby fig trees pretty cheap. I think he also sells sticks. He’s got a nursery license so he can ship anywhere. Will grow these out then try to cut my own sticks. I won’t go broke that way.

For me selling cuttings is limited. I wnat to root cuttings and then sell them on 6-10inch pots for 20-30$. My figs repaid my tent and lights in under a year. My hard work aint free you know. I just invested on a few used commercial led lights for a third of the price of a new one. Im getting rid of my small tiny 2x2 lights. They were more expensive actually. I have now 2 more grow tents. 1 for citrus and things to overwinter. One 4x4 for 6-8 trees and the 5x5 with the commercial light at 75% for around 10-12 trees. My setup will fire up in march

Yes please post where and how we can PURCHASE ? No need to “give” cuttings away people can at least afford the shipping cost ++. Thanks for your generosity and great vlog 👏👏. Petar
VDB and Smith are my best figs of my first year. Champagne is a close one too with my basic chicago hardy. Got other other mt etnas, tasted RLBV by chance at the end of the season. 3 rippened they were good but inferior to the chicago hardy. Similar taste but chicago hardy has a much better skin flavour. Only figs that has a tasteful skin. The others are bland

Thanks from So. Calif , Homer keep doing what you do, I learn a lot from you. I’m in my 2nd year of the fig hobby. I appreciate you 😎

Try USPS ground advantage instead of priority. 1/2 the price
What’s the time frame? One more day?
@ lol priority can take weeks. So it’s a crapshoot either way. But I find them almost same time frame.
