Great video. I think the best I’ve seen so far. I like that you show 3 years of growth . And I appreciate the details. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi Homer, I’m a new follower. I have been watching your videos for about six months now. I’m learning a lot from these videos that you are sharing. Thank you for being so generous in sharing your knowledge. I’m in my second year growing about 20 varieties in San Francisco, CA. I have most of them in containers and I love to learn more about the JADAM fertilizers that you started using on your fig trees. I really look forward to more videos from you.Thank you and cheers!
Yeah, this is part 2 pruning video I was waiting for. You do the best job of pruning. Mine will be easy this year 30" and done....lol. Love your attention to detail. I used to do compost worms for compost and ended up stopping after they kept escaping from my worm farm. I guess I still have all those worms in my yard....haha! Thanks for sharing.
I tried worm farming when I was into keeping fish… failed and they tried escaping multiple times… I think it has to do with not enough moisture in the bedding… their “home” wasn’t comfortable
@ mine was usually when it rained they would escape. Also, I should have kept a light on above them which would help keep them in place. I just buy my worms now for my fish.
Great job on the video. I need to do a lot of catching up on everyone’s videos. I’ve been extremely busy with a big project. Looks like I’m going to miss out on cuttings 😊
Good stuff, thanks for taking the time. If you'll allow me to pick your brain I want to know what your m.o. would be to prune a container fig in a warmer climate unaffected by the constraints of winterization and storage space. One that you intend to display prominently in the distant future provided it has the wow factor some of us are after. Given that fruit production takes a back seat in pursuit of aesthetic value - I'm wondering if/how far you might stray from your current pruning methods, or if certain unique training or espalier techniques would come into play. 🐐🐐
@basementfigs Absolutely. Apparently you hold visual appeal in high regard, and you've invested considerable amounts of time, money, and thoughtful experimentation over the years. In the interest of avoiding a coulda/woulda/shoulda situation for myself and many others 5+ years from now it would be foolish not to ask. Thanks so much
I started some cuttings in late summer here in Arizona, and I got some good growth. Trees are still growing here in early winter. I have a single leader growing on all of my trees, right now. My question is, do you bury the entire cutting after you get a single leader, or do you leave it as is to grow next spring? I am totally new to Fig tree growing. I have only 4 trees started. Or am I doing it all wrong? Thank you all for any help.
This is a dumb question but, when you root out a cutting and you get (let's say 3 nodes) to bud out and start growing stems, at what point do you cut off 2 to just leave the single leader to grow out that 1st year?
I have 17 figs in the ground so far I started with one brown turkey about 10+ years ago it was a single trunk and spread out at about 3-4 ft into a beautiful tree I rooted many lg cuttings I’ve kept three and have been giving away many rooted 2-3 ft trees. Two years ago I started viewing videos like yours and learning that there were many other varieties which blew my mind and needless to say I’ve started the fig hobby.I went to Etsy, figbid and started buying cuttings I’m really into the berry varieties. In September this year I bought Italian 258,CDD Gagantina,Bubblegum which have rooted already.I’m rooting Martinenca Rimada and Bordissot Blanca Rimada right now unfortunately their high price and only get one cutting so it’s been nerve reckoning plus I’ve never rooted during fall. I used my hydroponics propagation as I’m learning that unlignified do better. The gentleman seller from Etsy gives you at least two other varieties for free when you buy from him so he send me Tx peach and improved Celeste hope they make it 🙏 they do. I’ve turned my backyard into a food forest apples, peaches, loquats, persimmons, bananas, lemons, pomegranates, pears, plums, olive, jujube, star fruit, avocado, paw paw,but the fig fever is very real I’m determined god willing to continue with other varieties. I also don’t like my figs to grow as bushes I aim for the clean cut tree shape. Hopefully we don’t go through another winter storm like we did in 2020 here in Texas! I’m hoping to get all these cutting planted early next year. Again thank you
Amazing! Ty for sharing your story!! Be careful of Etsy. Lots of mislabeled figs in circulation because of sites like it and eBay. I saw we recently became friends on Facebook. Can’t wait to see your fruit forest develop!!
I’m second from Kentucky!! 🙌🏻🤗🙏🏻🇺🇸 Blessings!! I have learned so much to continue to grow my figs in my Zone 6b!!! 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼

Great video, thanks for sharing with us! What size pots do you have the figs in? Do you recommend that size?
