  • The Ruger Marlin 336 Classic is a lever action, tube-magazine fed, hammer-fired rifle with a half-cock and cross-bolt safety. Our sample weighed 7lbs 2ozs. Not bad considering there’s a lot of metal in these guns. The 336 has classic lever action features such as a steel receiver, a 20” barrel, adjustable sights, a walnut stock with a thin recoil pad, and a brass trigger. There are a few notable cosmetic differences between the new and old Marlin 336. First, the bullseye is red and white instead of black and white.
There is a nice grip cap with their iconic logo. Finally, the new 336 forend is a bit slimmer and blended a little better at the barrel band. The major differences are internal. The design is still the same, but the Ruger Marlins are more precisely machined. All the internal parts except the trigger/sear are tumbled, resulting in better consistency and a smooth action right out of the box.

I had the pleasure of holding and examining one last week at my local gun shop. Very nice rifle. Then I went home and picked up my 1968 336. Wouldn't trade the 68 for two of the new ones. You can't duplicate the feel of an original JM Marlin no matter who the builder is

I have a 336t marlin with the straight stock in 30-30 i purchased in1965. I also have the marlin a39 22 with the straight stock I purchased in 1961. It was missing the reload tube firing pin and ejection spring. I made the spring from a leaf rake tine ordered the firing pin and tube. All are still working and i would not part with either gun.

I'll wait with You... but I'll probably wait longer being out here in the Pacific

It's a plated STEEL trigger, not brass and it would have been good to note that the hammer forged barrel is 6 groove rifling--no more micro-groove rifling. Also the rifle comes apart easily for cleaning from the breech end.

Don't forget how they took a classic that everyone loved and then raised the price 300%. I'm so pissed off because of what they did.

Really?? Hate to break it to you. That’s the world we live in now. Sorry bud. At least they brought back a classic and made it spectacular regarding quality and finish. So, although I understand your frustration….. they brought back a CLASSIC!!!! It is beautiful!🤩

@@rustyturpin9014 Clearly you don't understand the history behind this rifle. If they wanted to take the rifle and make a premium version, go for it. They didn't do that. This is like knocking down a historic house just to build a state of the art mansion. It was never about it being pretty. It was about it being attainable by anyone. It was a lot of people first hunting rifle because of that. I'm sorry you don't get it.

When I was younger they were 99.95 at Sears. A weeks pay back then. Now they are a thousand bucks and if I was still working it would be about a weeks pay. No difference. Don't get me wrong. I'll never sell my JMs and probably never acquire a new one. Just my thoughts on the value of the Ruger.

I totally get the price thing. But these rifles are not cheap to make. What price would it make sense to you? Answer that then ask yourself if it would even be worth it to make in the economy were in. These are also made better than the old jms. I'm not surprised this is the price it's at. I think it's actually not that bad. This is the world we live in now.

Great video and glad RUGER has pickup the Marlin Line. I have two, first the 1954 A39 in .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle and continues to today with no problems and as a Marlin highly accurate out to 100yds. Second being the 1987 Marlin 336CS (chambered in .30-.30) and as the A39 accurate out to 100yds with 170gr Federal SHOK placing a dime size shot group (looped sling) at 100yds and yes Center-Bull. Both are 20” barrels and both scoped. Will never part with either for sure.

It’s one of my favorite rifles ever made and I’ve been looking around for over a year since they came out and I can not find one in a store.
What happened to production? Are they making only 10 a day?
Let’s go! A lot of states out there need a rifle like this because they have band semi automatics because we now live in a broken republic and in a communist state.
They make a dummy screw that can replace the cross bolt safety. I’ve had to use it on other rifles. It makes the 336 more original and you can use your half cock as your safety.
As far as sights go, get Williams peep sight in the rear and an XS front sight post in the front and you’ll be set…

Yeah it's new to market. Give it another 3 or 4 months and avoid the price gougers like MidwayUSA that want $600+ over MSRP.

Henry has a better trigger. 5.5lb sucks. For a 1300$ price tag they should have considered the hunter/shooter on that trigger. You can buy a 250$-300$ rifle with a accutrigger or the like.
