    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Billy (George Clooney) expresses his romantic notions of being a fisherman.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    In October 1991, a dying tropical hurricane from Bermuda collided with a cold front from the Great Lakes, resulting in a "perfect storm" of previously unknown destructive impact that resulted in 100-foot waves; tragically, the crew of a fishing boat was lost in the midst of the fearsome storm. Based on the best-selling book by Sebastian Junger, The Perfect Storm tells the story of the ship's brave and hard-working crew. Billy Tyne (George Clooney), captain of the Andrea Gail, hasn't had much luck finding catch on his most recent trips to sea, and with money short, he and his crew -- Bob Shatford (Mark Wahlberg), Dale Murphy (John C. Reilly), and David Sullivan (William Fichtner) set out again when they hear that the fish are running. Billy's hunch proves correct, but when the ship's refrigeration system goes haywire, they have to return to shore as quickly as possible before the fish spoil, sending them into the middle of the worst storm in history. The supporting cast includes Mary Elziabeth Mastrantonio, Diane Lane, Bob Gunton, and Karen Allen; Wolfgang Petersen, whose breakthrough film was the aquatic wartime drama Das Boot, directed.
    CREDITS:
    TM & © Warner Bros. (2000)
    Cast: George Clooney, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio
    Director: Wolfgang Petersen
    Producers: Alan B. Curtiss, Gail Katz, Barry Levinson, Brian McNulty, Wolfgang Petersen, Paula Weinstein, Duncan Henderson
    Screenwriters: William D. Wittliff, Sebastian Junger

      @@chriskeating5926 also nobody talks this way in real life. The dialogue here is to advance the movie plot and show the audience what the characters are about (sword fishing captaining). To further stress this they add a gooey and dramatic musical score to accompany George Clooneys idiotic monologue.

    I just love this passage from the movie. As someone who's spent sometime at sea in both large ships, yachts, and small boats and as a scuba diver, this really is how it feels pulling out to sea on the great adventure. And together with James Horner's music it dives deep into your soul, the awesome majesty and power of the ocean and how vulnerable we humans are going out there, but at the same time it's alluring, seductive and terrifying. 'The sea calls us home'.

    The fog’s just lifting. You’ve finished your egg macmuffins and picked up the ice at Sunoco for your yeti full of whiteclaws and budlight. You pull up to the boat ramp in your noisy lifted F150. There’s some families with their little kids splashing around in the shallows. You untie and get your boat in the water, hit the ignition and throttle up to max, barreling like a rocket through the no wake zone. Steamin’ now. You leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, but you know what? You’re a goddamn speedboat captain. Is there anything better in the world?

    my dad was Captain Bart Miller, "Black Bart". This scene reminds me of him, when he was younger and decided to be a boat captain in Hawaii instead of pursing his other golf career.The life of a boat captain isn't glamorous at all. It does bring you straight to God though. It makes you humble and aware that the sea is in control, not you. This was one of dad's favorite movies and now I understand why. This scene sums it up. Fishermen live for when they head out to sea, with a day ahead full of possibilites. "Tight Lines", as he would say.

    I sailed on the Fantome in 1987 and down in the Caribbean we cought the tail-end of a hurricane and my port-hole was one the starboard side port-side first one and the waves ovér my port-hole woke me up. The crew brought out the 151 rum the night before and all indulged I somewhat. The storm was exactly as depicted in this movie. Except the sound of the wind and halyards whistling like demons was the way it was . I went on deck and hugged the second mast and felt the steel hull in my bare feet vibrate and tremor going from crest to trough as the brave man Brasso steered the ship at the wheel. Unfortunately the ship and crew succumbed to Hurricane Mitch off of Belize a few years later.

      In real life, they didn't get the forecast as early as the movie shows.
      They were already halfway home when they got the first forecast, calling for 20ft waves, which is nothing to a 75ft steel boat.
      But then three storms converged on them and introduced the boat to 100ft waves

    What was not mentioned in the movie was the real Bobby had been married and had 2 kids before he met Christina

    • @kyleeaton2660
      @kyleeaton2660 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, Bobby might've mentioned it in the film. He talked about it with Christina in their room after they left the party. It may have not been fully concrete, but it does hint the facts.

    Billy Tyne was divorced with Two Daughters in the movie and he has an Ex wife and 2 daughters in real life as well that sued the producers as Did Sully's Sister and Murph's Ex Wife

    In films the actors usually don't resemble the actual persons.Why is this?

    • @pc_buildyb0i935
      @pc_buildyb0i935 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because when producers are trying to get studios to invest money into the production of their films, studios will only invest if they think there will be a return on their money.
      If a casting director picks a big name actor (like Clooney or Wahlberg), the investors will be much more likely to fund the movie's production.
      Sometimes, out of the available actors that a studio can get ahold of, none of them will look like the real people.
      John Hawkes looks a lot more like Billy Tyne than George Clooney does.

    That string music to signify the "gravity" of an "emotional moment" is sooooooooo cliche.

    • @GRIGA01
      @GRIGA01 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ZorbaTheDutch the score by James Horner is absolutely incredible. Take away the music in this scene and the emotion will drain for it. If music in a scene underlying the emotion needing expressed is cliche then what is the point in film scores as a whole?
      As a film composer myself, if composers of today, excluding a couple ie Zimmer, would write scores half as good as the scores from the 70s through to the 90s we would be very lucky film fans
