  • You have either done it or thought about doing it. There are way too many variables to go over thoroughly in one video, but I'll be sure to point out certain things you may want to know.

    Love your videos ... I've tried flipping machines twice thought I would share.
    1) bought a 1956 Gottlieb Derby Day off of an online auction. I never saw the machine in person and only knew it worked. Drove 9 hours to pick it up and was pleasantly surprised that it was in collector condition and worked perfectly. A small miracle to say the least. I owned it for 2 months and then decided to list it on Ebay before something broke on it. Ended up selling it for 1000$ profit to a collector in Australia which I thought was neat.
    2) Bought a Laser Cue, again off of an online auction. Described as 'Lights up but doesn't work'. I had to do a lot of work on it (battery damage, bundle of work to the boards, whole bunch of cleaning) to get it working and at the end it is still players condition and my total investment was 1400$ ... more than the machine is worth. I am keeping it until I need to make space for another machine. I learned a bunch though since this was my first machine that I had to do work on.
    BONUS: I bought a World Cup (Your cleaning video was perfect!) for 2500, again off of an online auction. I spent probably over 80 hours tearing down the machine, LEDs, rubbers, and cleaning it. It hadn't been cleaning since the 90s probably. Another small miracle, it works perfectly and looks great now! Total Investment was 3250, about on par for the machine. I gave it to my dad for Christmas, he was speechless. The machine gets the most play in his collection: Jacks to Open, Bally Grand Slam, Tommy, and Ghostbusters.
    Overall, the more you can do yourself, the more probable you will make a few bucks. It will likely come down to how much you value your time.

    Now this is how you do videos! I love the longer running videos Cary. Let's do more of these. I would love to see a regular "flipping" video from your channel. Keep up the great work!

    I really enjoyed this video! As a pinball owner & repairer. One of the things I've started doing with my machines is using AA lithium energizers for the clock/memory. They cost a bit more, but there is some nice piece of mind. Because lithium AAs won't leak if you forget to change them and they're not affected by the humidity, which usually cause alkaline batteries to corrode and leak over your CPU boards.

    I shopped out a Hurricane for a guy, meaning full strip, all LED, had to replace the Ferris wheel motor which was bad. Much like this one. Those rams will flame polish nicely if you feel adventurous.
    PF doesn't look too awful, to be honest. It's a fun game but I grew tired of it, kids and wife loved it. The customer ended up with a stinking nice looking machine in end. Anxious to see your work.

    sorry - don't take me serious - good job, great video!

    I have those upper playfield non frosted Cointaker LEDs in my Mars God of War in warm white and they look great in the GI .The cool white had too much of a blueish cast to them so I opted for the warm white as they have more of an incandescent cast to them looks factory only brighter. Chris at Cointaker put the 5 panel WW super 47s in the GI of a Black Knight: Sword of Rage in the showroom and I liked the look so I used them in the GI on my Comet. The duck shooting gallery is well back lit and the Rabbit gallery light also lights up the shooter lane. The green superflex lights up the dunk the dummy insert without wasting the light under the playfield. I used the 5 panels on my High Speed GI and will use them on my Hurricane once I get my boards back from EM. Better financially for me to pay a pro to bullet proof my boards than try to fix them and mess up thru holes or traces.
    I am gonna copy your idea of using the superflex leds in the Juggler assy. If you wanted to brighten up that topper you could have soaked it in a tub of hydrogen peroxide in the sunlight. But then you would have needed a new topper decal. Does anyone repo that item. Marcos is perpetually sold out.
    Keep the vids rolling!!

    Nice Video Cary, great attention to detail, did you end up doing any airbrush touch ups on the P/F?, I'm new to the hobby and maybe a suggestion on doing a bare bones video for the beginner on how to do p/f touch ups with the airbrush next time you do any touching up ,none the less enjoy the content!

    • @CaryHardy
      @CaryHardy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't do any for this game, I typically only do touch ups when I know I'm going to clear the playfield. I may utilize another playfield as a test subject for air brushing content.

      Just an alligator clip cable

    • @JMWRainwater
      @JMWRainwater 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaryHardy Interesting. So if you ground it then tough a live circuit (solenoid, lights, etc) it'll trigger?

    • @CaryHardy
      @CaryHardy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JMWRainwater Anything that gets grounded will fire. That's what a current is looking for - ground. Electricity takes the path of least resistance. Alligator clip a coil on the lug with the thick wire and then tap the grounding strap with the other end and it should fire.

  • @bzhmaddog
    @bzhmaddog 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd have use a logic probe to see if the U? received and trigger the request to fire the coil (I am not as fortunate as I don't have spare mpu)

    • @CaryHardy
      @CaryHardy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I ordered a probe THAT day because I really didn't want to have to desolder that U5 - I wasn't convinced it was the issue.

    Only 3 years later, but amazing job. Of course as usual you went a bit too far, since it was to resell anyways. I gotta say that it looks incredible. The only thing I miss is the recap at the end with all you've invested. It seems obvious to me that you did not want to tell the audience what was your end result on the profit, maybe out of respect to the buyer.
    Normally we hobbyists only calculate the costs and not the hours invested in troubleshooting and disassembling, which is obviously not 100% correct.
