That looked like a q series if I'm not mistaken. Always nice to see the older stuff still running

the old Q series never dies...built like a tank in 🇺🇸

Just removed a 2002 model as well today absolute unit, only reason we replaced is because it became to much of a health hazard with the amount of cold water mold buildup. But it was making ice still!

@@justincarney1005 yup...they were the best model ever made by manitowoc. In our shop we still have a J series unit working since 1997

@@kingofthecrease30 I have a 2005 era Quiet Cube machine at one of my restaurants, other than a dump valve, condenser coil cleaning, and a curtain magnetic reed switch, is all the parts it's ever needed since 2018... Condensing unit is beat up, accumulator is rusting, but still holding a charge and pumping out the ice. That little toilet tank style float that keeps the water level full in the trough is so simple and reliable, not water fill valve to bust or fail. No float switches or water level probes either. And since the entire condensing unit is on the roof, the only thing in the ice machine head itself is the receiver. The only noise it makes is the crash when the ice harvests.

That’s an awesome thermal imaging camera dude. I really liked being able to see when the warmer water was coming into the evaporator, like that was cool!

I really like those gauges. P/T display is more important than ever now when youre using all these different refrigerants.

I use a Johnson control fan cycle switch if I can fit it in there. Sometimes I will move the high pressure access back and put an access tee on it and come off the side of it. The larger fan cycle switch last a lot longer . The way you fix it is the same way I do it on small units I can’t fit the larger control in.Never had many issues from that point except when I use the Mars/Supco small switch and it goes out a few years later.

Good vid & glad for it Dave. I think pinch off tools lack the necessary finesse. I only use it if I’m on the highway and got no Gatorade bottles. 😩🔧 🍆😮‍💨.
Be good bro, looking forward to next livestream!

Would you recommend keeping Schrader on or removing it completely before adding the fan cycler?

What's yer opinion on just putting aftermarket switch on service port w tee?

  • @brnmcc01

Just use a relay instead of the fan cycle switch.... saves the customer $100's, and a ton of time.

Just a personal perferance question. Why braze on an access port when you could just tee off the high side port you recovered from?

I don't know if I can answer for him, but it seems to me this way keeps the fan cycle switch (and wiring) in it's stock location in case he or someone else needs to work on it again, removes the defective switch in case it should physically leak or fail in the future, and seems like the right way to fix this since a pinch off tool is not needed and provides him or any other serviceman a easy way to replace the switch, with a cheaper standard part none-the-less, without having to either pinch the system off or recover it to do the swap.
Personally there's nothing more irritating to me than cracking open a system and finding massive hacks, capacitors and limit switches bypassed or left hanging around/in the unit, defective/failed switches, limits, sensors and bypasses patched in wherever they would fit, having a tech run a bunch of wires to a different place so they could have an easier in/out fix and having to undo all of those things to get a proper diagnosis or fix on a unit.
Since the original sensor failed, and the last replacement was done with the pinch off method, he didn't even have to use a coupler, he just unsweated the last repair and was able to solder his schrader valve and spin on limit switch right in. I have a rule when it comes to anything I work on, and that's I want to leave the thing I repaired better for the next dude who works on it, because that dude is likely going to be me!
