Apparently, Ivan Ooze has an infinite combo he can pull off. If he connects with a 4 hit fire column against an opponent, he can chain into invulnerable strike, which can theoretically hit the opponent into the air enough to ensure that Ooze gets in another 4 hit column before the foe can hit the ground. Works best midstage. It's very hard to pull off because of the wonky nature of both attacks, but if you can master it you can punish your foes with death simply for jumping towards you.
People in the comments of the Power Ranges video was the reason why made this video. However... although it has been many years... I'm working on getting people back together to continue making videos.
It's kind of silly to compare characters from fighting games with completely disparate mechanics without trying to account for the differences. The shittiest character in Guilty Gear would dance around Super Turbo Akuma, but does that mean everyone in GG is more powerful (balance wise) than Akuma is?
FutileExistence Just like the other guy said, you can't compare these characters from different fighting games because of how different the mechanics are. Setting them up seeing who beats the other is just stupid. MUGEN doesn't really count. Characters can turn out to be poorly edited and not the same as how they originally were. MUGEN has enough flaws already, so I don't see why that even brought up to debate. Unlike Ivan Ooze, none of the characters you listed are legitimately playable with the exception of Igniz from 2002UM. I'm not going to explain what Ivan Ooze can do considering that it was listed in this video. He clearly has advantages that the other bosses don't have just by design (Mainly referring to his hurtbox) and frame advantages alone without super moves. Igniz may be broken (especially when he has an infinite), but not too broken to the point where he can be undefeated. He can still lose to the other boss characters as long as they know what they're doing. Hell, he can even lose to Nameless if played right and I've seen it before in competitive matches. Karai from TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) comes close to being as broken as Ivan Ooze. I put her up because she's playable in versus mode. Her normals shits on everyone else in the game, they're fast as hell along with her specials, and she can frame trap you putting you on blockstun for as long as she wants until she decides to throw you and continue her bullfuckery. If she gets a hit off of you, even on block, it's potentially over. She has infinites and 100% combos, so all of the other characters in the game are incredibly free to her. Only difference between her and Ooze is the fact that she can block, get hit by combos, and doesn't have any invulnerability frames in any of her special moves iirc. Still, it doesn't change the fact that Ivan Ooze is incredibly fucked and it's a widely considered thing to the FGC to this day.
That invincible move that can be used during hitstun has got to be one of the most broken moves in all of fighting games if not the most broken Man combos you for trying to combo him
I beat him quite easily on Hard mode in the story; fortunately, the AI doesn't spam skills and abuse his brokenness, even on Hard mode. Playing against a person, on the other hand, would be impossible to win.
Haha jeez I didn't even realize how old it was. I don't even remember how I came to this video... I guess I got into the strange part of TH-cam or something and came upon something from the before time, the long long ago. I can't believe you even responded to a comment on such an old video, but I appreciate the response for sure.
It makes me feel old. I still remember having the whole group together at our friend's apartment with a camera and recording software putting this all together. Whodat and I actually played this not to long ago in MD with a fan of the videos. We played a lot of classic stuff that night.
Unfortunately, those things that make you feel old get increasingly worse the older you get. You think "Aw man, I remember doing Thing X when I was a teenager! Which was ... oh jeez, that many years ago?" I have a horrible short-term memory, but my long-term memory is decent, so I still have those moments where I realize just how old I've gotten when I get into the nostalgia areas of my memories. I recommend not focusing on how long ago it was, but how much you enjoyed it when it happened... seems like a better way to look at things, turn a blind eye to the passing of time as it were.
I found it ironic because if you watched their review of this game, there was criticism on Mega Tigerzord on how he doesn't have much to work with... but ironically, he fared better against Ivan Ooze than the other seven characters. But like all great fighting games, every character good or bad have their strengths, and in this case his fireball did give him quite an edge, but obviously it wasn't enough to defeat the Ooze.
He really is the most broken fighting game character ever made. I think it would be cool to see him fight other 'broken' game bosses or characters. Goenitz from KoF96 may be able to beat him though...
No, because he can spam the invincible projectile move. Goenitz would be stuck in a bit of blockstun while Ivan is inputting yet another one of those. Btw... 11 years! How's it been doing my G?
I truly believe that Ivan Ooze is one of the greatest villains of all time because: 1:He is more powerful than Zedd and Rita combined. 2:It took the Rangers the Power of the Universe to beat him. 3:He is incredibly sadistic and evil and..... 4:Despite being so evil he is not the typical serious villain, he actually jokes around.
Yeah, honestly guys, all of our reviews are based on player vs player ability and not at all computer based. The only part where we ever fight a computer is in the credits to Pretty Fighter, and they just throw you out of random frames
@ChaosMissile His hard mode AI does not abuse his hitstun escape as well as any competent player would, randomly wanders into your attacks, and does not have access to his ridiculous 60% combos. As an AI, he's obviously beatable. Agressive players destroy with him.
Lol i remember getting this game when it was new and really liking it alot even tho it was a power rangers game. Then my friend found out the boss code and would play with no one but the OOZE.From that time on any OP characters in fighting games we played were dubbed the OOZE.
I've played Hazama in CS2 for a long time, not so much with Extend (but the move's offensive properties are the same). I've experimented with all his moves. Jakou comes out at a 45 degree angle. When you pause (and remove the little screen), you can easily see the chain and the 'head' of the snake. I want to point out that projectile destruction is around 1.5 bigger (in width around the chain) than the hitbox of the attack, at the 'head', itself.
When we talk about broken characters, we EXCLUDE MUGEN. Any dumbass can make a stupid character in MUGEN and put that up for download. But it takes a real piece of work to make a stupid broken character in a game that is expected to be bought.
Great video, I'd always heard the legends about him being one of the most broken fighting game characters but this is worse than I even imagined lol. Like was he playtested at all?
Ivan Ooze was designed as a boss character, so it made sense to design him with all these broken abilities. Then the designers went, "hey, wouldn't it be cool if we added a way to make him playable? that'd be a fun thing to let our players discover", and so they did. You can only play as Ivan Ooze after beating Story Mode on Hard and then inputting a code. And I guess they decided not to tone him down, most likely because it would be extra work for something a lot of players might not ever see, and they figured if a player had managed to get far enough to use him, they deserved the right to use him at full power.
Please people don't post up saying that you beat the computer Ivan Ooze. This is strictly about humans as Ivan Ooze. It should be pretty clear by this point.
"For everyone that said you can beat him........... You Can't!" Really good for a chuckle. EPIC music too. Liked Bison's mix. Btw that Shun Goku Satsu rip at the end was a joke of theirs, right?
One thing to think about though: If Toki can counter hit and remove stars, he can just get to a point where he can Fatal KO him. Though Ivan Ooze can fly around it... Man, I'm thinking too much into this Ooze
@EmperorFour Track 1 = "IDOLA" the Fanatic Viper -- Phantasy Star Online, Episode 4 Tracks 2 &3 = Tribute to the Master and Murder Instinct -- Blood on the Asphalt Street Fighter II tribute album, from the OCRemix site!
(Continued from last comment): Combos don't work on Ivan Ooze, since he can just cancel the first hit into his invincible attack. Jayoku Houtenjin would still do a lot of damage to him, though, assuming it hits. Also, does Jakou cancel all projectiles, or just ones directly in its path? When Ivan Ooze is close to the ground, one of the projectiles from the invincible strike goes horizontal.
I think the idea was just that he was meant to be a boss character. Based on the way he works (very few attacks, unusual mechanics), it's pretty evident he wasn't meant to be playable through normal means, and the designers threw in a cheat code that made him playable just in case players might want to mess around with him. Of course, most of the time when designers do that, they tone down the character at least a little; even Super Turbo Akuma isn't as insane as his boss version. Ivan looks like a case where they shrugged and just made the boss version playable as-is.
What is the song from that's around 3:30, it sounds like a Street Fighter Alpha 2 song, a Zelda Link to the Past forest level song and like something else lol.
Ooze's projectiles are auto-homing so the odds of any of them NOT getting destroyed is very small since they will walk right into Jakou's projectile destruction property. If he runs after using it, 66236236B or 2362366B (ie dash forward Jayoku Houtenjin) will still catch him. Maybe everyone is his game is slow, so that could be registered as a 'con.'
What do you mean, homing projectiles would bounce of Motaro and home in on Ivan. He could use his invulnerable strike but the projectiles still wouldn't do anything.
Ah. I guess it depends on if Ooze's throw immunity extends to moves that aren't technically throws but still involve grabbing the opponent. If so, Jakou still shouldn't affect him. Otherwise, Hazama might have an advantage. The video isn't clear on that point, and I'm not sure if anyone has anything like that in his game. Either way, Hazama wouldn't be able to throw him out of his invincibility strike. Since Jakou is two hits, Ooze might be able to cancel out of the non-damaging hit.
From what I've seen of Jakou, it is basically a throw. Since Ivan Ooze is immune to throws, the damaging part of that move wouldn't affect him. If Hazama spammed Jakou and destroyed Ooze's projectiles, he could at best get a draw. Ooze might even be able to avoid Jakou completely by staying as low as possible, depending on how high the opponent has to be for Jakou to work on them.
so what do you do after you get out? get put back in it. technically everyone is pretty much out of options, because he's got 1 option that beats the rest.
Ivan Ooze probably is THE most broken fighting game character of all time. I reckon that can never be disputed... However. As a boss character, some degree of OP'dness can always be expected. BUT. There is a character who is part of the regular roster of Rise 2 Resurrection called Necroborg who has a lightning projectile move which has invincible frames. Hits full screen, and can be spammed constantly by just holding back and hammering away on the punch button. Truly a 10-0 win against every other character in the roster. No single character has a tool for countering this.
The most broken move ever is Gill's Seraphic Wing. It can be dodged, you can't hurt he does, it can kill in one hit and even if you block it takes a 4th of your life bar. I don't think Ivan the most overpowered character ever, but he is defiantly overpowered.
the only one who i think CAN stand to Ivan Ooze if hes this insane is Kenpachi Zaraki, but then it'll be a stallmate since Zaraki will Tele-spam while Ivan spam attack
Ivan Ooze has his own screen filling super by the way but its not shown in this video, I don't think its available to human players but it is for the cpu.
@DubyaTeeEff Actually, they did. Even gave him a Super. They don't have the hit-canceling move. though. It doesn't make him much less broken, though, as his mobility is still superior.
Yes, but once he's hit he just teleports out and he's completely invincible. Evil Ryu (boss version) is even more powerful because he can set up anything anywhere and can't be hit. Ivan Ooze cannot block and when he does his strike he is vulnerable right after. So you teleport and hit in and out. Even if Evil Ryu got hit he wouldn't die from just one. It's actually pretty easy. Hit, and teleport out, etc. Ivan Ooze does invincible strike and he is open right after.
I can't say anything on Magaki as I've never seen all of whatb he can do. Igniz I've seen though. Brutal God Project is useless, as a throw-type. With Ivan's projectile spam, Devil's Rejection 2 is usable. Hard to see how whip spam would interact with his 'get out of stun'. It could go either way.
What is the "W" when listing moves 3 and 4? I know the first two were Weak Punch (WP), and Strong Punch (SP), but what are the other two? WW/SW. Weak W???, Strong W???
That;s because Mugen isn't a fighting game, it's a fighting game engine. You generally use it to make your own fighters, but people just wanna make the most broken characters possible.
Man, can't believe it's been so long, every couple years I have to come back and watch this video lol
Just in time for the new Power Rangers fighting games
@@DragonCharlz When's he coming as dlc?
Apparently, Ivan Ooze has an infinite combo he can pull off. wlee84 Btw, visit th-cam.com/users/teambestfromnow to see our newer stuff.
This is exactly what being completely broken in a fighting game should look like.
nobody can beat ivan ooze except the ban hammer
Fully invincible attacks? I'd say that's different and dumb. Only limiting factor on this character is the person controlling it.
You do realize that Ivan Ooze can't be combo'd, right? He doesn't even need to be near you at all. If anything you'd just die from chip.
It's kind of silly to compare characters from fighting games with completely disparate mechanics without trying to account for the differences. The shittiest character in Guilty Gear would dance around Super Turbo Akuma, but does that mean everyone in GG is more powerful (balance wise) than Akuma is?

Whodat_TBFN I just beat him bro. Just Gota block his shit
When i would play this game against my stepbrothers when i was a kid, we had to make a "no Ivan Ooze" clause before each match.
That invincible move that can be used during hitstun has got to be one of the most broken moves in all of fighting games if not the most broken
Man combos you for trying to combo him
I can't believe a Fighting Game launched in this condition.

Justin Wong sent me here
I think the only character who I can think of that might be able to outdo him in brokenness is Karai from that one TMNT game.
"For everyone that said you can beat him...you can't!" I'd say that sums this movie up pretty perfectly.
Isn't it ironic that Mega Tigerzord did better than everyone else against him by far?
Ivan Ooze could beat Dark Phoenix, Wolverine, and Sentinel all by himself.
I must admit I was surprised when the song started playing on this video. Love this song. Always nice to see Ivan Ooze show his brokenness too.

Who created this abomination? It is impossible to look at this in development thinking it isn´t completely game-breaking.
I think the idea was just that he was meant to be a boss character. The last 2 songs are from OCRemix website. song 18 and 19 from Blood on the Asphalt.
thanks jmcrofts
this video is older than me
Okay but General from Kizuna Encounter.
First song iirc is IDOLA the strange fruits. From PSO ep 3
What in the world was that at 7:38 against Silver Horns?
Ooze's projectiles are auto-homing so the odds of any of them NOT getting destroyed is very small since they will walk right into Jakou's projectile destruction property.
I re-watched his DP move and I'm realizing, yes it is highly spammable, but it is really punishable too. This gives Jayoku Houtenjin hit confirm. If he runs after using it, 66236236B or 2362366B (ie dash forward Jayoku Houtenjin) will still catch him.
Maybe everyone is his game is slow, so that could be registered as a 'con.'
Sweet music please state, first one sounds like PSO remix? second plus third are some sick street fighter remixes, got mp3? cool video.
What do you mean, homing projectiles would bounce of Motaro and home in on Ivan. He could use his invulnerable strike but the projectiles still wouldn't do anything.
I didn't expect to hear PSO BB's final boss theme
The first one is from PSO and is titled
"IDOLA" The Fanatic Viper
Lol. I've noticed a trend of purple characters being top tier recently... I dunno, might be close.
Dragon Punch+Punch can be performed at any moment, as long as he is not attacking. as such, he can even do it out of hitstun
Why uh... why doesn't he have any ooze based moves?
That invincible move is almost as awesome as Rapede's gale dog.
You forgot to list the names of the songs used in the credits. I really wanted to know the first one before the Bison/Vega arrangement
During the "Who can beat him?" segment, what game is that song from?

Okay, seriously. Why they hell are people getting thumbs down so much if they say the most trivial things?
Some people just abuse this function.
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but any of his attacks can be done if a human is playing as him.
I've played a bit as Ivan Ooze..playing as him isn't really playing a fighting game, it's just beating your opponent up in an utterly one sided match
Ivan Ooze Final Smash Attack: Ivan Ooze Clone
May God have mercy on his opponent.
That PSO music in the background?
Serious question - how would Igniz or Magaki do against him? They seem to be the worst of all SNK bosses.
"Blood on the Aspault" is a tribute project for Street Fighter 2. I should know that because I hang out there :)
Good Work.
Whenever someone says a character in a new fighting game is broken I point them to this video.
Here b/c Mike Z mentioned him in an interview w/ Stumblebee
so what do you do after you get out? get put back in it. technically everyone is pretty much out of options, because he's got 1 option that beats the rest.
so what if 2 ivan fought? would that be a stalemate,or total rape or will they let you use that same characters?
Any comment on the very first song?
Ivan Ooze probably is THE most broken fighting game character of all time.
I reckon that can never be disputed...
However. As a boss character, some degree of OP'dness can always be expected.
BUT. There is a character who is part of the regular roster of Rise 2 Resurrection called Necroborg who has a lightning projectile move which has invincible frames. Hits full screen, and can be spammed constantly by just holding back and hammering away on the punch button.
Truly a 10-0 win against every other character in the roster.
No single character has a tool for countering this.
Who would win: Ivan Ooze vs Rare Akuma?
It's still does a ton of damage, even if you block. Also, I've seen Kof boss called Orochi that has an undogable move that ISN'T a super.
The first song is so Phantasy Star Online-eske which song is this?
I wonder how he'd fair against Rare Akuma or Dark Ronald...
I'm trying to understand the 'how' of him breaking hitstun. I look at it, but I don't GET it. There's no specific rason why he's breaking out.
The most broken move ever is Gill's Seraphic Wing. It can be dodged, you can't hurt he does, it can kill in one hit and even if you block it takes a 4th of your life bar.
I don't think Ivan the most overpowered character ever, but he is defiantly overpowered.
If this is mugen, were did you get all the power rangers characters?
I guess this game wasn't play tested because otherwise they wouldn't make a single character so overpowered.
Well he is a boss that requires a code to select. Even though the code is easy.
I guess that's why they made him so overpowered.
The computer plays him really shitty too, he doesn't spam the invulnerable strike like we did as players.
I always refer to this when someone says a character is Broken. They always shut their mouth afterwards.
the two other songs are Street Fighter II remixes of some sort. M Bison's theme and Akuma's theme.
the only one who i think CAN stand to Ivan Ooze if hes this insane is Kenpachi Zaraki, but then it'll be a stallmate since Zaraki will Tele-spam while Ivan spam attack
Jmcrofts brought me here
Same
I'm loving the PSO music that came out of nowhere.
You know that when a character can't be beaten by the Shogun Megazord, something is very, very wrong.
@perochialjoe Can you explain that? Is that character powerful?
Anybody know the names of the songs in this video?
@ShadowWolf3998 After witnessing Kaiser Knuckle's General, I'm not as convinced anymore.
whats is the soundtrack. Phantasy Star online?
Ivan Ooze: *camps and rushes, switching it up*
MK: *tornados. outprioritizes Ivan Ooze*
... ... ...
"WHY THE @#$% HAVEN'T WE BANNED HIM YET!?" LOL
Ivan Ooze ought to fight Meta Knight next.
Well, I think we've finally found someone who can beat TMNT:TF Karai!
As always, good ish.
This game is a lot of fun. Same engine as the Gundam Wing fighting game (with some obvious changes).
