Man Sarah you are so beautiful, sometimes I get lost in your Beaty and it's hard to hear your music.... But please please please don't ever give up being beautiful or so wonderfully talented. Much love and admiration
Ms. Jarosz is a highly skilled singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and record producer who, despite being only 21 and a senior in college, has produced two critically acclaimed albums and created a folk-americana hybrid sound that is uniquely her own. This tune, which she composed herself, only demonstrates a small part of her enormous talents. If she seems ordinary to you, that says more about you than it does about her or the people who admire her.
I knew I wasn't crazy! No matter what I'm really just glad that there seems to be a resurgence in the popularity of the banjo and more archaic styles of playing them like clawhammer. It's got a sound that, to me, is usually more enjoyable than Scruggs-style bluegrass picking
Jarosz's banjo appears to me to definitely have six strings- pause it within the first few seconds and you can see 5 tuners on the peghead, plus the drone peg. Google tells me that she apparently uses a Burnin' Sun six-string made by Bernard Mollberg and the unique arrangement of tuning pegs match. Check them out if you can- I found a flickr of pictures, beautiful instruments! You are right that Robinson removed a string from that banjo to better space the strings, I'd forgotten about that
How true !!! Country as well is chained to todays rock and acept for a few bright spots they are sinking as fast as the Titanic, I believe music such as this is going to be just for folks that search it out cause we know it's out here along with what's left of good rock and good contemporary country. well put comment my friend..
Yeah, 5 full-length plus a done. 5-string banjos are sort of a modern standard that came about due to bluegrass supplanting old-time in the 20s and 30s, banjos from the 1800s ranged from tiny 4-string mountain banjos to large 7-string cello banjos and 8-string mandolin banjos. Look for "Hunter Robinson Tater Patch" here on youtube to see an antique fretless 7-string in action
We are doing this poem in my lit class for one of our marking period classes and you guys are great here! Great poem, lots of symbolism and deep meaning so its honestly one of my favorite poems and you guys just made me love it 10x more.
It's really hard to fit a melody directly to a poem. The author is often using tweaks in their cadence that make the transitions difficult. Stevie Nicks changed the words for her version as well.
To answer my own question: It is double c and I just learned the clawhammer she plays from this video. Well, at least some of it ;) Love playing her songs!
When I see young guys (a pretty lady and two guys) sing, play with this kind of intenseness, then maybe there is still some hope for the future ...as for todays rock, most of it is dead as a dodo !
+Charles Sturge There was no real Irish immigration to the American South. The South is English, Ulster-Scots and Anglo-Irish. People came from England, the English/Scottish border and what is now North Ireland.
Tyler Durden is a guy who talks to himself and thinks masturbation is self-improvement (or something like that), so quoting him doesn't automatically win arguments.
Wow, never expected to hear an Edgar Allan Poe poem as a bluegrass song. Amazing!
this is my fav song ever never thought that i could love a song as much as i love this one
No matter what the genre .... amazing talent is readily apparent. Outstanding !
As always she is phenomenal
Wonderful even after all these years !!
This is real art. Not like the quick fix in every music awards that calls themselves artist.
Clawhammering excellence too.
Note that Sarah plays a custom built SIX STRING banjo, not the traditional five-string type.
Wow I forgot about this song... such a great song with such energy.
Breath of fresh air

Well done... Bravo...
jaw dropping!

Beautiful! Who knew that one day, Edgar Allen Poe would lend his lyrics to a song? Beyond the great banjo playing, kudos to the violinist and bassist!
Great job on this timeless poem! You're playing and singing fit really well along with the playing by the rest of the group!
a truly fine presentation
This is awesome.
Excellent Sarah !
Astounding!!!
I knew I wasn't crazy!

Sharon Mickey
Edgar Allan Poe + SJ + Cameron Scoggins to be precise.
💞
Guy, that is a Burnin' Sun 6 string banjo made here in the Texas hill country by Bernard Mollberg. Beautifully made instruments!
Poe would be proud

anyone know the lyrics to this wonderful song?
Is that Tatiana Hargreaves' brother on fiddle?
Yes. Alex.
yes, i didn't notice until i read your post. but that might be why you posted, not as an actual question, but to get other people to notice it too.
Fantastic... and wow a 6 string banjo??
Did you say Poe?
Yeah this song is an Edgar Allan Poe poem.
So did she win a grammy then?
A great version, not sure which I like best, this one or her with Alison Krauss. Can't wait to see her live in the UK soon.
So much talent. Can't quit listening. Banjo guitar mandolin voice timing 99 thumbs up, OD CD 206.
I just ran across her on Pandora. awesome music
Her own adaptation. Stevies is quite different.
Bravo! Very cool ~
It was really good. I don't like that the words were changed but overall great.

for the record, this is clawhammer.

Thank you very much, its greatly appreciated!

If you're ever looking for evidence that bluegrass comes from Irish music...
Cory Thackston *music of the British Isles. It's not restricted to Ireland/terrorist state.
pathoscafe merely a correct one.

vague and incomplete statement

+Charles Sturge There was no real Irish immigration to the American South. The South is English, Ulster-Scots and Anglo-Irish. People came from England, the English/Scottish border and what is now North Ireland.
Does she use open C for this song?
Tyler Durden is a guy who talks to himself and thinks masturbation is self-improvement (or something like that), so quoting him doesn't automatically win arguments.
This should be the theme song for the series 'The Following'.
does that banjo have 6 strings?
Wonderful! And if you are ever in Austin please drop me a line. I'm subbed to your channel, btw. Oh.. and I have a Chuck Lee
