I'm going to take the opportunity here to drop a little lore. The guy on the other half of the #duet is ‪@jonnosri‬He's the first member of the Queensland Greens party to become a councillor and for a while I lived in the ward he represented.
To my knowledge I've never met the guy, but, I have a severe memory disorder and I don't remember most people that I meet, so, who knows? I know I attended a few Roving Conspiracy events (which were these art parties in Brisbane that he had some hand in organising) so idk... I've probably at least seen him, but frankly, I don't have many memories.
At that time in my life I was volunteering at a little art gallery in Woolloongabba. I recall Jonnos office being really helpful. If the gallery wanted to put on events they were always keen to lend things like marquees, sound systems, etc.
I volunteered in an admin capacity doing a small amount of reception and admin. I was trying to experiment with working in a low stress way to see if getting back into paid work after my disabilities was a viable option for me.
There was a lady there who ran life art classes. I've attended life art classes as an artist before, both for leisure and as part of an animation degree that I did in my youth. They're something I was already pretty familiar with as a participant.
One day one of the models dropped out last minute, and I was approached and asked if I could step in and fill the gap. I gave it a go and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I was like "You know. This is something I can do......"
And that's the story of how I started working as a nude art model.
