    Another suggestion: deep clean your exterior windows. It's amazing how dirty they get, and how much more light they let in when they're clean. That's especially true if your area has a lot of dust, smoke, smog, or other atmospheric particulates.

    nice list - one upgrade I did to our house last year was adding smart light switches for all my outdoor lights. Now we don’t have to remember to turn on or off the outdoor lights, they automatically turn on at sunset and off at sunrise now. The on/ off time adjusts itself with the changing of the season here in the midwest where sunrise/ sunset vary between summer/ fall/ winter/ spring.
    we can also set them to whatever sequence/ schedule we want for them from our smartphones or tablets locally and even remotely while we are out of town traveling.

      Dusk til dawn bulbs do this too... just leave the standard switch on and they'll do the rest!
      Except for the programmable part that is.

    Only problem with 'smart' devices is, when the manf. decides to dump the current system, or simply goes out of business. Then you're left with replacing everything again, or sticking with tried and true controls.
    As a network engineer, I'd suggest doing some research on some of the Open Source options available. Generally cheaper, and will be updated and supported much longer.

    Holy Cow! You mentioned "attention to detail," outstanding. This is the problem even with some so-called contractors, they think things they do are, "good enough." This was a good video for rookie home owners and young folks who have no idea. Thanks.

    I ran an LED strip underneath our kitchen cabinets and we absolutely love them. It lights up the countertop with a soft white light that manages to match the light from the microwave and, at night, isn't so bright as to be harsh.

    • @LieAngels
      @LieAngels 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you have the led strip towards the back of the cabinet (I.e against the back wall)
      Or did you position it in the centre/front part of the underside? Just wondering as I’m about to do this myself..

    • @velvetjones8634
      @velvetjones8634 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LieAngels Late to the comment but the best way to put led strip lights on top of cabinets is to buy a piece of trim that has one angled side, install the trim toward the front of the cabinets and stick the strips to the trim so that they’re facing the wall at a 45 degree angle.
      This allows you to never see the LEDs themselves and provides a very gentle wash of the light on the wall. The further the strip is away from the wall, the more the light will spread and the softer it will appear.
      The bottom of cabinets is the same (except upside down, of course); however, there is one potential exception: If you plan on using them as work lights, you’d likely want to attach them to the middle of the cabinet bottoms, facing straight down.
      The only problem with this is that if you’re short or have chairs/couches anywhere that the cabinets are visible from, you’ll see the individual LEDs.
      Even if it seems like it may not bother you, trust me: it will. Spoken from way too much experience.
      I hope that helps!

    • @phaedra8020
      @phaedra8020 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LieAngels Ditto. I wonder the same. I'm thinking I might do it near the rear so the light bounces towards the front but all the way to the front. How do these plug in though?

    Glenn, you were the one that gave me the idea(s) with led lighting, tv mount, and shelves when I started my interest in DYI. Thanks again for the great ideas and years of showing a newbie like me home renovations can be modernized and affordable. Unfortunately, materials grew in price as I got into my new hobbies, but still cheaper than buying retail.
    Love this video how you prioritize that makes the most impact. As soon as I am done renovations, I really want to do the motorized projector you did a while back. Stay blessed, and hope you have continued success!

      They have one with usb and 1 usb c port usb will still be around for a long time older devices led lights etc’
      But plan them out as they r expensive good ones r 35$ don’t get the cheap ones that’s a fire waiting to happen
      Also be careful like bathroom anywhere there’s a water source u need a gfci outlet with the breaker “test button” that’s code
      U really only need them in planed locations like by a bar behind tv beside bed etc u could also just get a flush mount wall plug with USB ports just google it they r like 15 bucks on Amazon basically had a cord to plug into wall and the other side is a box with plugs/ USB ports u can screw onto furniture etc
